Fred Reed: Government Can’t Protect Us From Terrorism

“Terrorism by Moslems in America and Europe cannot be stopped. If attacks do not occur, it will be because nobody tried very hard. Stopping them would require excluding Moslems, deporting them, or controlling them by totalitarian methods. Or, improbably, minding our own business in the Middle East. What you think of the foregoing approaches doesn’t matter, since none of them will be used. In France the result would be a civil war. America is too divided to do anything about anything. The notion that the government can prevent terrorism suggests studied inattention to the obvious.”

Officer Friendly is Dead

“The Chicago Police Department was forced to release a video—one that they went to court to keep from publicly releasing—of the shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald. He was shot last October by Officer Jason Van Dyke. Despite the fact that Mr. McDonald fell to the ground after being shot once by Officer Van Dyke, Van Dyke proceeded to shoot Mr. McDonald 15 more times as he lay on the ground, then proceeded to reload his pistol, apparently to shoot some more, until stopped by his fellow officers. Thanks to this video, Officer Van Dyke is now under charge for 1st Degree Murder, which as far as I can tell from the video, is entirely appropriate.”

Florida “Officer of the Year” Arrested on Federal Child Pornography Charges

“At Harding’s home, hundreds of images & videos of sexually exploited children were found on his computer. In addition, Officer Harding used his department issued laptop computer to upload child pornography. Harding is married with three young children.   Officer Harding was once a decorated police officer; he has even done public safety videos. In hindsight, public safety videos should have been done on how to stay away from predators like Harding.  In 2011, while working for the Fort Pierce Police Department, Harding was named Officer of the Year. At the time, Harding had issued 76 DUI citations – a key component to him winning Officer of the Year.”

GCHQ admits for the first time to ‘persistent’ hacking in the UK and abroad

“The UK’s digital spy agency, GCHQ, has admitted for the first time in court that it hacks computers, smartphones, and networks in the UK and abroad.  In evidence published this week, GCHQ says it undertakes ‘persistent’ hacking, leaving monitoring software on targeted devices. GCHQ also admitted that it does not need to seek individual warrants before hacking a target device. Instead, the agency primarily relies on ‘thematic’ or ‘class’ warrants, which give permission to intercept communications from ‘a defined group or network.’  Jaffey stated that this definition is interpreted as broadly as possible, letting, for example, the agency target ‘all mobile phones’ in a given city.”

WarGames for real: How one 1983 exercise nearly triggered WWIII

“The KGB believed that by analyzing quantitative data from intelligence on US and NATO activities relative to the Soviet Union, they could predict when a sneak attack was most likely.  As it turned out, Exercise Able Archer ’83 triggered that forecast. The war game, which was staged over two weeks in November of 1983, simulated the procedures that NATO would go through prior to a nuclear launch. Many of these procedures and tactics were things the Soviets had never seen, and the whole exercise came after a series of feints by US and NATO forces to size up Soviet defenses and the downing of Korean Air Lines Flight 007 on September 1, 1983.”

Terror Attacks And Terror Drills: A Series Of Strange Coincidences

“The emergence of the exercise in Paris on the day of the November attacks has only heightened suspicions that somehow – directly or tangentially – there is more to the narrative than what has been presented. Of course, those on the Internet who wish to fuel their suspicions can find other such training exercises. Drills, for instance, were being held during the 9/11 terror attacks. Wikipedia further notes a training exercise was being conducted during the July 2005 London terror bombings (often referred to as 7/7).  The Madrid bombings, too, were accompanied by a terror drill. In Spain, the drill ended a day before the bombings.”

Paris Attacks Spur Emergency Edict and Intense Policing in France

“All over France, from Toulouse in the south to Paris and beyond, the police have been breaking down doors, conducting searches without warrants, aggressively questioning residents, hauling suspects to police stations and putting others under house arrest.  The extraordinary steps are now perfectly legal under the state of emergency decreed by the government after the attacks on Nov. 13 in Paris that left 130 dead — a rare kind of mobilization that will continue. The French Parliament voted last week to extend the emergency for three more months, which means more warrantless searches, more interrogations, more people placed under house arrest.”
