Another Cop Shoots Himself Instead of the Dog He was Trying to Kill

“In North New Jersey, Bloomfield, a police officer shot himself instead of an ‘attacking canine’ he was trying to kill with the firearm he apparently did not know how to use.  This is hilarious beyond words to those who keep up with these incidents, because this exact same thing happened recently in Riverside County, California.  Predictably, the officer was apparently too embarrassed to allow anyone to release his name, so we don’t know who he is exactly. Essex County’s Prosecutors office released bare minimum details, also predictably, and the officer is pretty much safe.”

The US Treasury has had a group working on these ideas since the Bush administration.”

Are You Making This Financial “Mistake”?

When you deposit money in a bank, you become an unsecured creditor holding an IOU. That IOU is only as good as the financial standing of the bank.  In return for assuming this risk, what do you get? The highest interest account I have in the US pays me a whopping 0.46% annually.  That reassuring FDIC logo on your bank’s front door masks the fact that the FDIC Insurance Fund has a reserve ratio of 0.79%. For every $100 on deposit, the FDIC has only 79 cents to back it with.  The new global model is the ‘bail-in,’ first seen during the Cyprus banking crisis that began in 2013.”

Home Ownership for Young Americans Is Falling. So What?

But this is not what most people do.  Young people who live in areas in which they cannot afford to buy a home are making a mistake, to this extent: they could have begun to develop equity by purchasing the first home with a 30-year mortgage. That is a tremendous opportunity missed. But they were going to miss it anyway. They were not going to use the property as an investment property. They were going to get on the treadmill of social status, buying ever larger houses in ever nicer neighborhoods.”

US Coast Guard Fires At Iranian Fishing Boat In Persian Gulf

“The incident occurred when Coast Guard Patrol Boat Monomoy launched a smaller vessel that approached ‘to query the Iranian dhow’ on its activities in international waters.  Dhows are wooden boats ‘typically used for trade’ throughout the region.  According to CNN, the Iranian crew ‘trained and prepared to fire a .50 caliber machine gun on [the smaller] boat as it approached as part of routine maritime security operation.’ As this action ‘demonstrated hostile intent,’ the Coast Guard fired one shot ‘in self-defense.’  The Navy reported that the dhow crew did not respond after one shot was fired.  The Coast Guard is operating with the Navy’s Fifth Fleet in the Persian Gulf.”
