“Shawna is a 35-year-old woman who is legally prohibited from taking her kids to the park. That’s because she’s a sex offender.  Years earlier, on her 19th birthday, Shawna and her friends were drinking and celebrating. A teen boy expressed interest in her, and they slept together. He turned out to be 14 years old. His mother notified the authorities.  Now Shawna is spending the rest of her life on the sex offender registry, even though the mother of two is obviously no threat to children.”

In Indiana, sex with minors is OK, but it’s illegal to sext them

Revenue-Hungry States Canceling Back-To-School Sales Tax Holidays

“[Massachusetts] isn’t the only state to forgo its sales-tax holiday in order to raise additional funds. Kansas, North Carolina, Nebraska, Rhode Island and Wisconsin, state legislators are among those that have also decided against holding new tax holidays or reinstating them during the last few years. ITEP estimates that state and local governments that retain the holidays will lose out on more than $300 million in revenue due to the holidays this year. Those losses in revenue come as states are also poised to see aggregate tax revenue growth below 4 percent this year, down from 5.5 percent in 2015, according to Moody’s Investors Service.”

Disabled cancer patient slammed to the ground by TSA, then jailed

“A disabled teenage cancer patient was injured during a violent arrest by security agents at Memphis international airport, her family has alleged in a lawsuit filed against the Transport Security Administration.   Hannah Cohen, 18, at the time of her arrest on 30 June 2015, and her mother had been on their way home to Chattanooga from St Jude’s hospital in Memphis, where Hannah underwent her final treatment for a brain tumor.  Hannah and her mother, Shirley, told the Guardian that the pair had made the trip hundreds of times, and knew the airport security routine well.”

UK reviews home schooling amid fears children are being ‘radicalised’

9/11 anti-sledding provision repealed in $1.15 trillion federal spending deal

“The sledding ban on the hill was implemented after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The publication covered enforcement of the sledding ban last February, when a group of frustrated parents and cherubic kids briefly slid down the hill as protest (above), before being told to leave by Capitol police.  According to a report on The Atlantic, the tug of war between children and the government for use of Capitol Hill grounds dates back to a 1875 law intended to ‘to prevent any portion of the Capitol Grounds and terraces from being used as playgrounds or otherwise, so far as may be necessary to protect the public property, turf and grass from destruction or injury.'”
