Black-Clad Einsatzgruppen Confiscate Guns in California

“The State of California’s Armed Prohibited Persons System (APPS) has created an einsatzgruppe dedicated exclusively to gun confiscation. Using gun registration lists, the APPS stormtroopers, ‘arriving in SUVs and dressed in black tactical uniforms … regularly sweep through California cities’ to seize firearms from people the state has designated ‘prohibited persons,’ reports the Fresno Bee. A criminal conviction is not necessary for enrollment on the civilian disarmament register; all that is necessary is an official finding by the state’s Welfare bureaucracy that the gun owner is ‘a danger to himself or others.’  The searches are conducted without warrants.”

Why Obama Can’t Just Uncancel All Those Insurance Plans

“State insurance commissioners are not enthusiastic. They’re the people who are actually in charge of approving the plans and rates that private insurers offer in each state. The regulators association threw tepid water on the plan in a statement Thursday, saying the decision ‘threatens to undermine the new market, and may lead to higher premiums and market disruptions in 2014 and beyond.’ These officials can nix the idea at the state level, as Washington state’s regulator already has.  Even if it works, the fix is not a fix—it’s a delay. Whenever the administration does start enforcing that piece of the law, people are going to get another round of cancellation letters.”

Bitcoin gets ready for the government

“Officials from the Treasury, Justice Department and the Secret Service are scheduled to testify at Monday’s hearing.  Amid the flurry of activity, the nonprofit Bitcoin Foundation has taken on a lead role as the technology’s champion before the federal government. In October the group hired Jinyoung Lee Englund, a former aide to Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) who has also worked at The Heritage Foundation, to direct its public affairs efforts in Washington.  The foundation also tapped law firm Perkins Coie to help with an effort to convince the Federal Election Commission to allow the use of digital currency for federal political contributions.”

JPMorgan’s $13B Penalty Helps IRS Deal A Huge Blow to Homeowners

Say an individual Detroit homeowner earning $40,000 a year gets a principal reduction of $100,000, roughly the average principal reduction in the National Mortgage Settlement, a previous deal that offered consumer mortgage relief as part of a penalty for bank misdeeds. In the tax year 2014, that homeowner would record an income of $140,000, and their resulting tax bill, according to this calculator, would be $29,693, or nearly three-quarters of the homeowner’s annual income. Homeowners struggling to stay in their homes typically do not carry large amounts of cash reserves to pay off tax bills; they wouldn’t be desperate for mortgage debt relief if they did.”

Police kill man, 19, after father calls to stop him from buying cigarettes

“A 19-year-old has been shot dead by police after his father dialed 911 to report his truck stolen in order to teach his son a lesson for driving off to buy cigarettes.  Patrol officer Adam McPherson fired six shots into the truck and the 19-year-old later died from two gunshot wounds. Father James Comstock told The Des Moines Register on Tuesday: ‘He took off with my truck. I call the police, and they kill him. It was over a damn pack of cigarettes. I wouldn’t buy him none.  ‘And I lose my son for that.’  Gary Shepley, Tyler’s step-grandfather, questioned why police didn’t back away from the truck, which belonged to a lawn care company, as suggested by an officer during the chase.”

International Wire Fees going up from the new remittance transfer rule

“On October 28th, 2013 international wire fees are going up. This is due to the remittance transfer rule amendment to Regulation E from the Dodd-Frank Act. Ironically, as a ‘consumer protection’ amendment, these new stipulations are suppose to help protect and disclose more information to those that are sending money abroad. The issue is that it really does the opposite of that–it simply makes international wires more expensive at the cost of those who can afford it the least.  JP Morgan Chase has announced that they will no longer be offer outbound international wire services in response to this new regulation.”

HSBC USA Joins Chase in Limiting International Money Transfers

“Yesterday, I reported that JPMorganChase will start to limit cash withdrawals and ban certain business customers from sending international wire transfers, from November 17 onward.  Now, word comes via Simon Black that starting October 20th, HSBC USA’s Premier clients will have to wait a minimum of five days before transferring funds to their OWN international accounts!  This is not good. The cover story for these measures is to ‘protect’ banks and customers from theft. In reality, this is a major move toward limiting movement of capital overseas.”
