“Terrorism” for Foreigners is “Exceptionalism” for Washington

“Some defenders of the CIA’s Iranian coup claim that it was justified because Mossadegh’s government was nationalizing US and British oil companies in Iran. If that action is defensible, why shouldn’t the Iranian government stage a coup to retaliate for the US government’s seizure of an Iranian-owned office building near Rockefeller Center? The seizure is being carried out under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which supposedly gives the government authority to confiscate terrorism-related assets. When foreign governments confiscate assets, Washington calls it terrorism. When Washington does the same, it’s called ‘American exceptionalism.'”

Who Wants Marijuana To Remain Illegal?

Hey, this is DEMOCRACY at work. This is the best system on earth, right? This is the system the U.S. government tells us it wants for Libya, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.  If some foreign government through its politics forbids women from walking around without burkas on, that is a sign of its tyranny, U.S. officials tell us. But if the existing U.S. system forbids someone from using marijuana or some other drug, this is not infringing rights and it’s not oppressive.”

Kentwood police chief pleads not guilty to stealing burglary proceeds

“Kentwood Police Chief Gregory Newton, arrested earlier this year in an evidence tampering case, pleaded not guilty Thursday in 21st Judicial District Court. Newton, 59, was arrested following a citizen’s complaint that $2,000 was missing from money recovered in a burglary in late 2012, State Police has reported. Newton and another officer drove to Pike County, Miss., to retrieve $11,000 that was confiscated from two juveniles accused of stealing the money, state police said, but only $9,000 was returned to the victim of the burglary. Newton remains free in lieu of $50,000 bail. If convicted, he faces up to five years and a fine of up to $5,000 on each count.”

Mahoning County sheriff’s deputy sentenced for drunk driving

“A Mahoning County sheriff’s deputy is sentenced after being convicted of drunk driving.  A judge in county court on Tuesday found 53-year old Kenneth O’Rourke of Canfield guilty of operating a vehicle under the influence.  O’Rourke was fined $500 and placed on probation for five years.  O’Rourke, a six-year veteran of the department, was arrested in May at Raccoon and Mellinger Roads in Canfield after his car hit an unoccupied vehicle. O’Rourke was off duty at the time.  His blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit.  At the time, Sheriff Jerry Greene placed O’Rourke on paid administrative leave.”

Charges reduced for officer who ran over teens while fiddling with phone

“Felony hit-and-run charges against fired Manchester police sergeant Stephen Coco have been reduced to misdemeanors, charges that would allow the 17-year police veteran to avoid a state prison sentence in the high-profile case.  Last Thursday, the special prosecutor in the case filed Class A misdemeanor charges of vehicular assault against Coco, claiming he was fiddling with a cell phone last March when he hit two Bedford teenagers outside their Harrod Lane homes.  He was driving an unmarked Manchester police vehicle at the time.”

McCain’s Moderates Join Al-Qaeda

Critical elements of the ever-shrinking ‘moderate’ Free Syrian Army have this week pledged their loyalty to the local al-Qaeda franchise in Syria, which happens to be on the US terror list.  How can President Obama, McCain, Lindsay Graham, Samantha Power, John Kerry, and the rest of the neoconservatives and humanitarian interventionists continue to justify sending weapons of war to such people? How is it possible that a ‘global war on terror’ has morphed into a ‘global effort to arm terrorists’? Does it not seem rather insane?”

Just 20 per cent of Obama’s Twitter buddies are real people who are active users. Overall, the five most influential accounts linked to the Obama administration – the first lady has two – account for 23.4 million fake followers. Biden’s nonexistent fans make up 46 per cent of his Twitter total, with 20 per cent being ‘real’ followers. The White House’s followers are 37 per cent fake and 25 per cent active; the first lady’s primary account is 36 per cent fake and 29 per cent active.”
