“You may recall that one of the things that came out in the big HBGary Federal data dump was that the US government had put out a request (that HBGary was thinking of bidding on) for software that would let the government manage a bunch of social networking profiles at once, in order to create a series of different online personas on different social networks that could all be easily controlled by one person. Well, HBGary Federal didn’t get the account… but someone else did. A company called Ntrepid has scored the contract and the US military is getting ready to roll out these ‘sock puppet’ online personas. Of course, it insists that all of this is targeting foreign individuals, not anyone in the US.”

Rep holds up vodka and steak on House floor to shame food stamp opponents

“Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) on Thursday held up steak, vodka and caviar during her House floor speech in an effort to shame Republicans who want to slash $40 billion from the food stamp budget, while they continue to go on ‘lavish’ trips financed by taxpayers and other groups. Earlier this month, House Republicans introduced a bill that caved to conservative members and doubled the amount of cuts the party was proposing to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. ‘They dine at lavish restaurants, eating steak, vodka and even caviar,’ she added, showing food props to members of the House. ‘They receive money to do this. That’s right, they don’t pay out of pocket for these meals.'”
Colorado Republicans ask for flood relief after voting against Sandy aid

“Four Colorado Republicans who voted against a $50 billion federal relief bill to assist victims of Hurricane Sandy have asked the president for emergency aid to help clean up their state after devastating floods. President Barack Obama signed an emergency declaration Sunday to help Colorado recover from the floods that continue to ravage many parts of the state. Republican Reps. Mike Coffman, Cory Gardner, Doug Lamborn and Scott Tipton joined the rest of their state’s delegation in asking Obama to send emergency funds to Colorado, reported Think Progress. Those same four Republicans voted against the Sandy relief package in January.”
Dutch King tells citizens ‘to take responsibility’ as austerity implemented

“The king, who travelled through the streets of The Hague to address MPs and senators in an ornate horse-drawn golden carriage, said the transformation would be particularly noticeable in social security and long-term healthcare policies. The trade-dependent Dutch economy is in the fourth quarter of a recession and is struggling even as other European countries return to growth. The austerity measures will reduce Dutch households’ purchasing power by 0.25 percent in 2014. The budget announcement came with the government in free-fall in opinion polls. A poll said that the ruling Liberal-Labour coalition would lose around half its seats in parliament were elections held now.”
Teen arrested for using app to “shoot” his classmates with a cellphone

“Police arrested a 15-year-old high-schooler Thursday in Louisiana for ‘terrorizing’ his classmates with a phone app that edits video to make them appear as though they are being gunned down. Terrebonne Parish sheriff’s Capt. Dawn Foret told the Lafourche Daily Comet that the H.L. Bourgeois High School student, used a phone app called ‘The Real Strike‘ to superimpose video game style guns on video from an iPhone and similar devices. The app allows a user to virtually ‘shoot’ things in front of the camera. The boy is charged with terrorizing and interfering in the operation of a school.”
Obama waives anti-terrorism provisions to arm Syrian rebels

“The Obama administration waived provisions of a federal law which ban the supply of weapons and money to terrorists. The move is opening doors to supplying Syrian opposition with protection from chemical weapons. The Arms Export Control Act (AECA) allows the US president to waive provisions in Sections 40 and 40A, which forbid providing munitions, credit and licenses to countries supporting acts of terrorism. But those prohibitions can be waived ‘if the President determines that the transaction is essential to the national security interests of the United States.'”
South Korean troops kill man trying to swim North

“South Korean troops shot dead a man trying to swim across a border river into North Korea on Monday after he ignored repeated warnings to turn back, the defence ministry said. The spokesman said Nam was believed to have been trying to defect to the North, and had jumped into the river with a flotation device to help him get across. Hours before the shooting, hundreds of South Korean factory supervisors drove across a nearby border crossing into North Korea after both sides agreed to reopen a joint industrial zone shut down in April.”

Ron Paul Questions The Double-Dealing Empire
“How can the U.S. be both fighting Al Qaeda, and at the same time aiding them to overthrow Assad in Syria? Well, this isn’t the first time that Ron Paul has posed this type of question. Let’s rewind back to 1983, when the bogeyman was The Soviet Union. Here’s Ron Paul speaking on the House floor, asking an almost identical question: ‘Why are we engaged in military action against the Communists in which American lives are being lost when we cannot take the simple action of cutting off the flow of money to the Communists? For decades we have pursued this immoral course of action, asking American men to die fighting an enemy the American government has financed.'”

Obama admin. sends guns to Syria…without background checks

“Have these rebels, who reportedly have ties to terrorist groups, gone through background checks? Does this transfer of light weapons and munitions to Syrian rebels go against the grain of the United Nations’ Small Arms Trade Treaty, which the president has said he supports and would sign? There have been allegations that the Syrian rebels have strong connections to al Qaeda, the same organization that claimed responsibility for the 9/11 attacks in 2001, and has been linked to last year’s Benghazi attack, and we’re giving these people weapons? Does it seem that the president is [little] concerned about putting guns in the hands of people whose idea of justice is public execution?”

John Kerry Admits Syrian Rebels Could Have Chemical Weapons

“Kerry said UN inspectors must be on the ground no later than November, while the destruction of chemical weapons must be completed by the middle of 2014. ‘Providing this framework is fully implemented it can end the threat these weapons pose not only to the Syrian people but also their neighbors,’ Kerry said adding that Russian and US teams of experts had reached ‘a shared assessment’ of the existing stockpile and that Syria must destroy all of its weapons. It was possible that the Syrian rebels have some chemical weapons, he acknowledged.”
