Glenn Greenwald: Snowden’s revelations ‘not espionage in any real sense of the word’

‘I think it’s very surprising to accuse someone of espionage who hasn’t worked for a foreign government, who didn’t covertly pass information to an adversary [or] enemy of the United States, who didn’t sell any top secret information,’ Greenwald told Hayes, arguing that Snowden ‘asked newspapers to very carefully vet the information to make sure that the only thing being published are things that informed his fellow citizens but doesn’t harm national security.’  ‘This is a 1917 statute enacted under Woodrow Wilson to criminalize opposition to World War I.  It has been used very, very sparingly throughout American history until the Obama administration.'”

Welcome, baseball fan. Go directly to jail.

“You see, they take law and order Very Seriously in Washington. Oh, sure, there is murder, drugs and prostitution (and solicitation, but more on that later), but those crimes are a byproduct of any large metropolitan area, and, well, folks will be folks.  No, I am talking about the unspeakable crime of trying to resell tickets to a Washington Nationals makeup baseball game.  I went to jail. I sat in a cell for 2½ hours, stood for a mug shot, got fingerprinted, paid 50 bucks and was released. In the grand scheme of things, my travails were minor to all but me. But when that cell door slams shut, the world becomes a different place.”

Snowden And Manning Saw Something, And Said Something

thelrcblog-5002

“Most Americans – 76% of them, in fact – have never heard of the DHS’s propaganda, ‘See Something, Say Something.’  Robert Jensen, DHS principal deputy assistant secretary in the office of public affairs, responded, ‘We will continue to expand the campaign in the coming months and years.’ Years. Years more of ham-fisted SS-SS. It’s enough to send a gal screaming over the border.  See something, say something…..isn’t this what Snowden and Manning have done? Should they not be lauded for following this directive?  Ah, but mere serfs should never expect consistency from a police-state.”

Bloomberg anti-gun group apologizes for calling alleged Boston bomber, shot by police, a ‘victim’

“A gun control group founded by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg apologized Wednesday for mistakenly including one of the alleged Boston marathon bombers in a list of people killed by gun violence since the massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.  That list was delivered to Sen. Kelly Ayotte’s (R-NH) office amid a protest organized by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which targeted the New Hampshire Republican for her vote against gun control regulations proposed by the White House.  Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in an April shootout with police.”

Ted Cruz: Will Obama do background checks before giving arms to Syrian rebels?

“In a tweet called the ‘zinger of the day’ by Twitchy, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, wondered Tuesday if President Obama would conduct background checks before giving arms to Syrian rebels.  ‘Anyone know if President Obama intends to perform background checks on the Syrian rebels before providing them weapons?’ he asked. As of this writing, the short message has been retweeted 6,480 times.  Polls released Monday show that an overwhelming majority of Americans do not support plans to arm the rebels, Breitbart.com said.  Part of the problem, John Nolte said, is ‘the fear that the new boss will be an awful lot like the old boss.'”

Syrian rebels say they have received anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles

“Syrian rebels have received heavy weapons — including anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles — from ‘brotherly nations that support the Syrian revolution,’ a rebel spokesman said Friday. Free Syrian Army political and media coordinator The White House has not publicly specified what steps it would take to support members of Syria’s opposition, though sources have told CNN that small arms, ammunition and possibly anti-tank weapons would be part of the assistance package. The White House announcement this month that it was increasing the ‘size and scope’ of its material support to Syrian rebels came after months of political debate over the U.S. role in the conflict.”

National-Security State Toadies Are Guilty Of Hypocrisy On Snowden

hornberger2

“They say that Snowden should have stayed here in the United States instead of fleeing to Hong Kong. They say that if he were a genuine hero, as his supporters say he is, he would have remained in the United States, where the national-security state would have incarcerated him, tortured him, and executed him.  Oh?  Well, pray tell, national-security state toadies: Where were you all when those CIA agents skedaddled out of Italy after committing felonious offenses in that country?  The problem with kidnapping and torture is that they’re criminal offenses under Italian law, which is precisely why those CIA agents got criminally indicted and later convicted and sentenced.”

NSA Snooping on Americans Is Unconstitutional and Outrageous

eland_ivan_100x1331

“Even after 9/11, an American’s chance of being killed by terrorists is about the same as that of being killed by an asteroid and less than that of being struck down by lightning.  President Obama recently gave a speech seemingly shining a light on the end of the tunnel in the war on terrorism. Apparently, that didn’t apply to snooping on Americans in that war. As a candidate prior to becoming president, Obama argued that no tradeoff existed between security and America’s unique and sacred liberties; yet after these government spying programs were leaked, he contradicted his early stance and opined we couldn’t have 100% security and 100% liberty.”

German Government Takes Off Mask, Emerges As Fascist Dictatorship

“The Greek national broadcaster was taken off air in the middle of a programme on Tuesday night without warning, without a public debate or a debate in parliament. A brave group of journalists have rebelled and keep a skeleton service going as a pirate station cheered on by supporters in scenes worthy of a fascist dictatorship.  A poll shows two thirds of the Greeks oppose the closure of their national broadcaster, paid for by their taxes. The ERT was shut down by the police following a decree — considered illegal by many — by the EU/ECB/IMF Troika puppet, Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras. The move was greeted with applause by the German government.”

China blasts U.S. surveillance program exposed by Edward Snowden

“China’s official army newspaper branded the U.S. Internet surveillance programme exposed by former spy Edward Snowden as ‘frightening’, and accused the US of being a ‘habitual offender’ when it comes to network monitoring. The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Daily hit out at the US for implying that spying on citizens from other countries was justified, and said that the PRISM monitoring programme had probably been used to collect large amounts of data unrelated to anti-terrorism operations. The remarks about the programme are among the most scathing to appear in China’s state-run press following Beijing’s refusal to make an official comment.”
