ISIS Is Internet Savvy

“A Los Angeles Times story reports on how well organized ISIS is with respect to the Internet. It gets its story to its target audiences.  ISIS a year ago was part of the American government’s system of allies in Syria. ISIS was conducting a civil war against Assad’s Syrian government. ISIS was a freedom fighting organization.  Conclusion: ‘Let’s bomb Syria.’  Now we are assured by senior U.S. government officials that ISIS is the #1 terrorist organization in the world.  Conclusion: ‘Let’s bomb Syria.'”

ISIS: Made in Washington, Riyadh – and Tel Aviv

antiwar_logo4

“ISIS didn’t just arise out of the earth like some Islamist variation on the fabled Myrmidons: they needed money, weapons, logistics, propaganda facilities, and international connections to reach the relatively high level of organization and lethality they seem to have achieved in such a short period of time. Where did they get these assets?  None of this is any secret: Saudi ArabiaQatar, and the rest of the oil-rich Gulf states have been backing them all the way. Prince Bandar al-Sultanuntil recently the head of the Kingdom’s intelligence agency – and still the chief of its National Security Council – has been among their biggest backers.”

Ron Paul: Obama Has No Middle East Strategy? Good!

the-daily-bell-top-logo61

“Three years of supporting any force that might overthrow the secular government of President Assad has produced a new monster in the Middle East that neocons insist the US must slay. Why can’t they just admit they were wrong? Why can’t the interventionists just admit that their support for regime change in Syria was a terrible and tragic mistake?  If ISIS is as big a threat as they claim, why can’t they simply ask Assad to help out? Assad has never threatened the United States; ISIS has. Assad has been fighting ISIS and similar Islamist extremist groups for three years. Why does the US government insist on aligning with theocracies in the Middle East?”

U.S. Wants to Bomb ISIS In Syria; Should We First Stop Arming Them?

“The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff says we need to attack the Sunni militants in Syria.  The deputy national security adviser to President Obama says we should go after ISIS in Syria.  But the U.S. and our closest allies have long supported Sunni militants.  And the U.S. and our closest allies have been arming and training Islamic jihadists in Syria for years.  The U.S. is still financing the jihadis in Syria. For example, the government is pushing an additional $500 million in arms to the jihadis.  A similar dynamic is operating in Iraq.  The U.S. is now arming the Kurdish ‘Peshmerga’.  But reports are that Peshmerga are fighting side-by-side with the PKK, a group designated as terrorists.”

When America Switched Sides In The War On Terror

“Focusing on this under-reported, critical shift in American foreign policy, Clare Lopez discusses how an American ambassador and others were killed in Benghazi on the anniversary of 9/11 because the Obama administration decided to promote and defend their narrative that ‘al-Qaida was on the run,’ even as we were outright arming militants affiliated with the terrorist group.  Lopez spent 20 years as an undercover operations officer for the CIA.  To her, the American decision to overthrow the head of a sovereign government, Muammar al-Gaddafi, and to instead support al-Qaida and the Muslim Brotherhood laid the important framework for a resurgence of global jihad.”

Rescuing “Hitler”: Obama’s Bailout of Assad

“Syria’s Assad is like Hitler. So said Secretary of State John Kerry in September 2013.  Now the U.S. government is about to bail him out in his civil war against ISIS.  Three decades ago Saddam Hussein was an ally of the USA.  Then the USA declared war on him. Twice. He became ‘Hitler.’  A year ago, Kerry spoke of a ‘Munich Moment‘ with Syria.  So, the U.S. government will not withdraw from the region. It will determine which faction wins and which loses, and on what terms. Except the government keeps changing its collective mind about who the good guys are, and who the bad guys are.  Assad needs a victory over ISIS. Obama plans to give it to him, free of charge.”

Warplanes hit Tripoli amid Libya fighting

“Air strikes targeted a militia in Tripoli as rival armed groups from Misrata and Zintan battled for supremacy in Libya amid a worsening bout of violence.  None of the militias had been thought to own warplanes, while the central government has only an outdated air force.   The air attacks escalate a struggle between Islamist and more moderate forces as well as between militias from different cities all vying for power.  Forces from Zintan had allied themselves with Haftar and stormed parliament in May, saying it had an Islamist agenda.  Some Tripoli residents, tired of daily fighting disrupting power and food supplies, hope NATO will intervene in Libya.”

US ‘told Syria rebels’ to seek intervention

“US officials have asked the Syrian opposition to call on the international community to hit positions belonging to the Islamic State group and help rebels eliminate the self-declared jihadists, Al Jazeera has learned from sources inside the opposition.  The Syrian National Coalition, the main political opposition bloc, and the leadership of the Free Syrian Army, a loose conglomeration of armed rebel, are expected to make the appeal from Turkey on Saturday, the sources said.  The US is carrying out air strikes on Islamic State targets in Iraq and a day after the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution that aims to weaken the Islamic State and al-Nusra Front, al-Qaeda’s Syria branch.”

Justin Raimondo: Sneaking Back Into Iraq

“Yes, folks, it’s another ‘humanitarian disaster’ staring us in the face – and, we’re being told, we have little choice but to go in and save the day. We’ve already sent in hundreds of Special Forces to ‘advise’ the nearly nonexistent Iraqi army we spent billions arming and training. The military infrastructure is there, ready and waiting.  So what should we do to help Iraq stave off an invasion by ISIS, which is now holding some 40,000 Yazidis in the northern part of the country?  The answer is: nothing. Not every problem has a solution. Not every mistake – in this case the mistake of invading Iraq in the first place – can be rectified.”

Benghazi ‘falls to al-Qaeda-linked rebels’

“Armed groups claimed to have taken control of Libya’s second largest city, Benghazi, after defeating units loyal to a renegade general, taking over their barracks and seizing tanks, rockets and hundreds of boxes of ammunition.  The main police headquarters was on Thursday still smouldering after it was hit by shelling a day earlier, and smoke rose from the barracks of al-Saiqa soldiers loyal to General Khalifa Haftar, once the strongest security body in the city until it was overrun earlier this week.  Among the factions is Ansar al-Sharia, the group accused by the US of leading a September 11, 2012 attack on a diplomatic facility in the city that killed the ambassador and three other Americans.”
