Twitter Nears Deal With Payments Startup Stripe

“Twitter is close to letting its users purchase products directly through the social network and is nearing a deal with payments startup Stripe to help it accept credit card payments from its users, according to a person familiar with the deal.  The deal, which is in the final stages but not yet complete, will be the surest sign that the social network is finally serious about making it easier for brands, retailers or manufacturers to sell stuff directly on Twitter.  Stripe spokeswoman Kelly Sims declined to comment. Twitter spokesman Will Stickney declined to comment.”

Bitcoin Destroys Banking Leeches

“Whether they admit it or not, Bitcoin has put the fear of God into the banking system. Why? Because it threatens to remove them from the equation, plain and simple. Many people have now heard of Bitcoin and have a grasp of what it is…but the big question is, do they realize the potential for crypto-currencies to remove massive inefficiencies from just about every area of banking and finance?  Whether it is Bitcoin or some other type of crypto currency, the banking sector knows one thing for sure: The genie is out of the bottle.”

Incredible confusions: Why ‘austerity’ if we can just print the money?

“Debt can either be repaid or be defaulted on. Destroying the purchasing power of money through inflation is one way to default on the debt. Simply not paying the debt is the other option. In both cases, savers, ‘thrifty pensioners’, and the customers of banks, insurance companies, and pension funds will suffer, and in the inflationary scenario everybody will suffer greatly. Sadly, the massive printing of money and accumulation of debt that has occurred since the termination of the gold standard and the adoption of limitless state fiat money and pro-growth central banking has now brought us to a point where defaults appear to be unavoidable. This is not some great reset. It is a man-made catastrophe.”

‘My business accepts Bitcoins’

“The five-year-old digital currency is increasingly being adopted by brick-and mortar businesses, including dentists, pet boutiques — even a small honey business in Utah.  In 2012, about 1,000 businesses used BitPay, the largest processor of Bitcoin payments. Today, more than 26,000 businesses worldwide use BitPay, said Tony Gallippi, its cofounder and CEO.  The majority of those firms are small businesses — about half are in the U.S. and the rest are international. And while a majority are online sellers, Gallippi said 20% are merchants with storefronts. The shops range from bakeries and wine stores to car dealers and mattress sellers.”

Luxury Berlin Apartment bought with Bitcoin

“By using Bitcoin directly, this transaction took only 10 minutes for the real estate agent to receive their money. Martin from All4Btc.com worked closely with both the customer and the agent to create a fluid and secure transaction, as well as assuring that all taxes and fees were accounted for. Personal contact and support established a clear understanding for the agent exactly how they receive the money immediately by using Bitcoin.  All in all, it took only three weeks from the customer contacting All4Btc.com to get the keys in hand.”

International Effort Brings Boost for Bitcoin in Vietnam

“Despite recent negative noises from the authorities, bitcoin in Vietnam is still making gains in both in daily use and public awareness.  A multinational project involving participants from Vietnam, Germany and Israel is setting up Vietnam’s first live and registered bitcoin and litecoin exchange and payment processor, called Bitcoin Vietnam, to accept local currency.  Working as a ‘bitcoin broker’ it is cooperating with an Israeli startup called Bits of Gold. Bitcoin Vietnam will be 100% Vietnamese-owned to avoid extra red tape.  Bitcoin Vietnam will also form a technology partnership with another Israeli counterpart, Bit2C, which has operated a successful live exchange for over a year.”

Dubai: 400 fully operational Bitcoin ATMs in the next two weeks

“The Twitter user Sergey Yusupov used the social platform to announce the arrival of about 400 Bitcoin ATMs in Dubai. According to Yusupov, the machines are already being installed, but they will only start working during the next two weeks.  Sergey’s tweet shows a warehouse full of Bitcoin ATMs that will allow people to buy digital coins with fiat currency from the beginning of April. The first machine was already deployed, according to a different tweet, and will be ready to sell BTC in a couple of weeks.  He also adds that local authorities and government are not involved in the initiative, not disclosing if any sort of licence was required to install and operate the devices.”

Financial Considerations for Expats

“On one hand, online banking and voice over IP (VoIP) calling have made it easier for Americans to manage their money and stay in touch with financial advisors or accountants from anywhere in the world.  But the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act  has created additional headaches for many. In fact, CNN Money reports that 3,000 Americans renounced their U.S. citizenship last year, three times as many as the average over the previous five years, a fact it attributes in part to these new regulations.  The financial impact of moving overseas will, of course, vary depending on the laws in your new country and other factors, but here’s a look at areas to consider.”

Thieves dig 50-foot tunnel to steal money from a grocery store ATM

“A group of thieves in the UK dug a 50-foot underground tunnel to steal money from an ATM this week, according to a statement released today by the Greater Manchester Police. The theft occurred between midnight and 6AM on March 14th, at a Tesco grocery store in the town of Eccles. Police say the thieves accessed and escaped the store from an underground tunnel that they dug at an abandoned lot nearby. It’s not clear how much money they made off with, though investigators described it as ‘a substantial sum.’  In 2012, a group dug a 100-foot tunnel to steal about £6,000 ($9,915) from an ATM located near a Blockbuster store in Manchester.”
