Thanks to Government, Banks Treat You Like Crap and Spy on You

“The worst example of government spying may be the web of laws and regulations that require banks to monitor our bank accounts and to share millions of reports about our financial transactions with the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.  These laws have become very expensive and intrusive, yet they’ve had no measurable impact on crime rates.  As you might expect, politicians and bureaucrats have decided to double down on failure and they’re making anti-money laundering laws more onerous, imposing ever-higher costs in hopes of having some sort of positive impact.”

A Sure-Fire Way to Control the Price of Bitcoin?

“At least two outfits in Europe are already running what they call bitcoin derivative markets. One, based in Ireland, is called Predictious. The other, in Russia, is known as ICBIT.  In addition to Predictious and ICBIT, a group of former floor traders in Chicago is exploring an honest-to-goodess bitcoin derivatives market, though this is still in the early stages. Collin Palmer, one of these traders, believes such a market could not only help stabilize the value of bitcoin, but invite more mainstream financial minds into the digital currency, as opposed to the computer geeks that typically deal in bitcoin.”

A Ron Paul coin?

“Ron Paul, former congressman and current host of TheRonPaulChannel.com, explains why he’s been advocating competing currencies vs. the U.S dollar. Alternative is a good method; the dollar isn’t going to last, he says.”

How Dogecoin changed my perspective on cryptocurrency

“The statement that Dogecoin poses to us is this: If things really are worth whatever anyone says they’re worth, so are memes. Do we really want to live in a world where a dumb joke about dogs that can’t talk has the same legitimacy as money? Because the more people that take Dogecoin seriously, the more serious it becomes… and the very nature of its silliness encourages us to think seriously about the nature of money and therefore value.”

Warriors news: Will Golden State accept Bitcoin next?

“The Golden State Warriors may be the next NBA team to accept bitcoin as currency to pay for various goods and services, according to the Wall Street Journal.  On Thursday, the Sacramento Kings announced via owner Vivek Ranadive that they would be the trail blazers in professional sports by accepting bitcoin in Sleep Train Arena and online. Though the technology is still new and there’s a lot of reluctancy to accept it among consumers, the ownership responsible for keeping the Kings in Sacramento has embraced the idea of enhancing the fan experience. If trying something new and taking a risk pans out, it could pay big dividends.”

Sacramento Kings broadcast using Google Glass, accept Bitcoins

“Watching hoops from the stands or on TV is great, but have you ever wanted to see an NBA game from the perspective of a coach, cheerleader or broadcaster? That’s going to happen on January 24th during a Sacramento Kings broadcast vs. the Indiana Pacers, as select players and staff will be decked out in Google Glass — along with the team’s mascot, announcers, dancers and others. All that will be coordinated by a company called CrowdOptic, which will analyze in real time where all the devices are aimed and distill everything to a manageable feed for broadcast. At the same time, the Kings have announced that it’ll be the first pro sports franchise to accept Bitcoins.”

Bitcoins Accepted By Quantum Properties

“Quantum Properties in Abbotsford is B.C.’s first real estate developer to accept Bitcoin for deposits on its condos, Vancouver Business has announced. And while no buyers have used the currency to purchase a home, the company wants to be innovative, CEO Diane Delves told the newspaper: ‘I like to keep up with current trends,’ she said. ‘Why not get in on it?’  Bitcoin appeals to consumers because it removes a middleman such as a central bank or credit card company, and it permits anonymity in online payments. Vancouver became the first city to host a Bitcoin ATM after a kiosk was installed at a downtown Waves Coffee in October 2013.”

Bitcoin ATM sign of currency’s growing popularity

“A Toronto business man is trying to make it easier for the average Canadian consumer to get their hands – at least digitally – on some bitcoin.  Anthony Di Iorio opened up Toronto’s first – and Canada’s second – bitcoin ATM at Bitcoin Decentral near King and Spadina.  And on Harbord Street, just east of Clinton Street, it can also get you some wings.  ‘We figured every payment method that you can offer a customer will only generate more business,’ Tony Gallippi, owner of Smoke Bourbon BBQ House said Tuesday.  The BBQ house owner currently has about 30 regular customers who use bitcoin. A month and a half ago, he had eight.”

Bitcoin: The currency that buys a pint one week but a TV the next

“In Australia, where excessive bank profits and fees are universally resented, Bitcoin’s ‘dramatically lower’ transaction fees stand to win wide appeal.  The Old Fitzroy pub, which accepted its first bitcoin in September, was the first Australian bricks-and-mortar business to use the currency. In Melbourne, St Kilda businesses cafe imbiss25 and music, fashion and jewellery store Eclectico now accept the bitcoin. So too do food and vegetable supplier Earth and Sky Organics, and Oakleigh South all-terrain vehicle manufacturer Tomcar.  There is a way for merchants to avoid the bitcoin’s volatility by signing up to Australian company Bitpos.”

Scots cafe becomes first to accept online currency Bitcoin as payment

“A bistro has become the first restaurant in Scotland to accept online currency Bitcoin as payment.  The Brooklyn Cafe lets customers settle their bills using the internet-based digital currency system.  The idea was the brainchild of manager Jonny McDonald, who has worked at the cafe for 13 years.  The family-run business, in Glasgow’s Shawlands, started accepting the payment system in late December and made their first Bitcoin transaction last week when a customer settled his £42 – or 0.06938312 Bitcoin – bill.”
