Oakland police chief filtered out Occupy e-mail

“People who’ve e-mailed Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan over the past year about Occupy Oakland probably didn’t get much of a response.  That’s because he used a spam filter to dismiss messages sent to him with ‘Occupy Oakland’ in the subject line, according to a federal court filing Monday. Same goes for the phrases ‘stop the excessive police force,’ ‘respect the press pass’ or ‘police brutality.’ Because of those filters, Jordan missed e-mails from other city officials and a federal court monitor, who oversees the department’s compliance with court-ordered reforms stemming from a police abuse scandal.”

Cop Tasers 10-Year-Old Boy After Refusing To Clean His Patrol Car

“A ten-year-old boy was tasered by a police officer with 50,000 volts of electricity on a school playground after refusing to clean the officer’s car.   The officer responded to the boy’s sarcastic remark by saying, ‘Let me show you what happens to people who do not listen to the police.’ He then tasered the boy, who weighs less than 100 pounds, in the chest causing him to black out.  When the boy came to, instead of calling for emergency medical assistance, he took the boy to the principal’s office. The boy, was left with scars resembling cigarette burns and has since been suffering from PTSD, often waking up in the middle of the night grabbing his chest.”

Cherokee County teen shot by police sniper, parents speak out

“Lisa and Nick Messina said their son was killed at the hands of the officers they called for help.  According to his parents, Andrew Messina had a bad day at school and the pressure was so overwhelming, he grabbed a gun and threatened to kill himself.  Lisa Messina called the cops in desperation, hoping an officer would come talk to him. But what arrived was an army of deputies, an armored tank and a sniper.  Andrew Messina had begged negotiators several times to speak with his father.  ‘They brought an army to take out a 16-year-old boy. To kill a 16-year-old boy,’ Nick Messina said.”

Diabetic Cleburne Teen Hit With Taser After Crash

“The 19-year-old driver was in a hypoglycemic state. He’s diabetic. His blood sugar was dangerously low. ‘Step out of the vehicle, sir. Provide me with your driver’s license and insurance,’ the officer can be heard saying. ‘Step out of the vehicle. Or I will tase you!’  23-seconds later he does, firing at the teenager once in the car and once on the ground.  Emergency crews arrive. The officer finds out what was wrong. ‘I didn’t know he was freakin’ diabetic!’ the officer said.”

Detained Man Burned Alive After Being Left Unattended In Police Car for 15 Minutes

“Man arrested for a brawl suffered serious burns while sitting handcuffed inside the police car. Later he died in hospital.   Andrei Slesarev was arrested during the celebration of his birthday. He got drunk and raised hell at home. His family called the police and the local police patrol detained the brawler.   However, few hours later the family of Slesarev received bad news – the man died in the burn intensive care unit of the city hospital. The cause of death was absolutely incomprehensible.”

“When Michael came out of the house he was forced to kneel with his back to a deputy who was pointing the muzzle of an assault rifle at his head.  With Michael in handcuffs and Marcela under armed guard, the deputies – led by Sheriff Chuck Rolland – conducted an illegal search of the home, finding what they thought was a marijuana growing operation. It proved to be an indoor nursery for organic tomatoes. The pretext for this assault was a 911 call from a neighbor reporting that Michael and Marcela had an argument. En route, one of the deputies suggested that a paramilitary approach would be justified, saying of Michael: ‘He’s a constitutionalist.'”

Key evidence in Maricopa County Jail death suit of Deborah Braillard ‘destroyed’

“Deborah Braillard was an insulin dependent diabetic who was arrested on a minor drug charge when her car broke down on New Year’s Day 2005.  During three agonizing days in custody at the Estrella Jail, she was deprived of insulin and denied medical care despite pleas from fellow detainees.  By the time she was rushed to the hospital, Deborah Braillard had slipped into a diabetic coma.   The ABC15 Investigators have obtained court records, documents and a judge’s ruling that show key evidence in the case of Deborah Braillard was lost, deleted or ‘destroyed’ by MCSO in an attempt to cover up the death of a Valley mother.”

Police Go to Wrong House, Shoot Dog

“A local couple says a San Antonio police officer who shot their dog in the jaw early Sunday morning was at the wrong house.  Albert Morales said his brother, Hector Serna, woke him up before dawn after hearing the gunshot and then pounding on his window.  Serna and Morales said they went outside and the officer approached them saying there had been a 911 call about a deceased woman.  Morales then said the officer told him he was responding to the call from another family blocks away on another street, who had once lived in their house.”

Beating of diabetic driver raises questions about N.J. State Police training

“He may have looked drunk or like he was on drugs, but doctors say these are classic symptoms of diabetic shock. Paramedics found Fried’s blood sugar was so low he could have suffered a coma, seized or died, according to State Police records.  But two troopers took his erratic behavior for belligerence. They wrestled him down, hit him with a baton and arrested him, their reports said. The struggle was captured by a microphone on one of the troopers.  On the tape, Fried can be heard screaming and telling troopers they are hurting his arm, while they yell at him to stop resisting.”
