Two Thirds of Americans Support Drones for ‘Homeland Security’ Missions

“The survey also canvassed law enforcement officers, 72% of whom supported the use of unmanned drones for surveillance purposes and 66% supported their use for ’emergency response’.  Initial testing of robotic spy drones for ‘public safety’ applications was conducted by the DHS’ Science and Technology directorate at Fort Sill, Oklahoma last year. The DHS has also been giving grants worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to police departments across the country enabling them to purchase unmanned surveillance drones such as the Shadowhawk drone, a 50lb mini helicopter that can be fitted with an XREP taser with the ability to fire four barbed electrodes.”

National weather agency spared from furloughs after rash of tornadoes

“Forecasters at the National Weather Service (NWS) will not be forced to take furloughs during the summer hurricane season following the recent destruction caused by tornadoes in Oklahoma, CNN reported on Saturday. The NWS was part of the initial plan by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to impose as many as 20 mandatory days off without pay for its 12,000 employees in July and September, a move caused by federal budget cuts. The cuts would have taken effect during what forecasters predicted would be an abnormally severe hurricane season.”

Oklahoma ABLE Commission agents bust south Tulsa brewpub for making too-strong beer

“The Oklahoma ABLE Commission cracked down on  a south Tulsa brewery Tuesday afternoon. Agents say Pi Pizzeria and Craft Beer House is only licensed to make and sell low-point beer, but some customers complained it’s too strong. ‘Through the sampling process, we sent those samples to the lab and did determine they were making an alcoholic beverage, not low-point beer,’ said Erik Smoot, ABLE Commission agent. The agents seized everything Pi used to make and brew its product. They say the manager is being charged with making and selling strong beer without a license.”

Famous ‘Fantasy Island’ plane used to smuggle drugs into Oklahoma

“It was the centerpiece of the classic ’70s and early ’80s TV classic ‘Fantasy Island.’ But when the show was canceled, the plane went from ‘famous’ to ‘notorious.’ The production company unloaded the sea plane.  It would later be used to smuggle drugs from Columbia into the United States.  Years ago, OBN agents intercepted the aerial icon during a cocaine drop in S.E. Oklahoma. After years of secrecy, OBN revealed the unique drug bust on their Facebook page Monday morning.”

A Noble Lie: Oklahoma City 1995 – Full Version

“A Noble Lie is the culmination of years of research and documentation conducted by independent journalists, scholars, and ordinary citizens. Often risking their personal safety and sanity, they have gathered evidence which threatens to expose the startling reality of what exactly occurred at 9:02 am on April 19, 1995 in Oklahoma City. Utilizing footage and eyewitness testimony, previously unseen, A Noble Lie will change forever the way you look at the true nature of terrorism.”

Ranking the States for Economic and Personal Freedom

“Here are the full rankings from the newly released Freedom in the 50 States from the Mercatus Center, showing North Dakota as the state with the most freedom, with South Dakota (#2), Tennessee (#3), New Hampshire (#4), and Oklahoma (#5) also deserving praise for high scores.  What makes Freedom in the 50 States so interesting is that you can mix and match variables based on your own preferences.  I checked the ‘fiscal’ and ‘tax burden’ categories, and South Dakota (no state income tax!) jumped to #1 for both of those measures.  You won’t be surprised to learn that New York is the worst state, not only overall, but also for various fiscal policy measures.”

Inside Oklahoma’s Quest To Dominate The American Drone Industry

“Oklahoma businesspeople, academics, and politicians are collaborating through an organization named USA-OK, which aims to make the heartland state the focal point of American UAV development. A quasi-affiliated group, the Governor’s Unmanned Aerial Systems Council (PDF), was formed via an executive order from Governor Mary Fallin in 2011. Both organizations are lobbying for commercial drone test sites in Oklahoma and increased government assistance in luring more large military contractors to the state.  Oklahoma is already home to approximately 15 companies servicing the UAV industry.”

Oklahoma Woman Seeks Medical Treatment, Is Jailed Instead, Dies

“Hospital staff reported that Russell wouldn’t cooperate and was in too much pain to even lie down, so they asked a Paul’s Valley police officer to assist. And that’s when Russell’s medical emergency morphed into a drug bust. The police officer found two prescription pills on her for which she did not have a prescription, so she was arrested and jailed on drug possession charges. She was found unresponsive in her cell less than two hours later.  The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has cleared the jail staff of any criminal wrongdoing.”

Wary eyes shift to the skies as unmanned aircraft are tested in Oklahoma

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/w300-146ab8f344f79834878b97235382f8172.jpg

“The simulated chase this month was among the first test flights in a U.S. Department of Homeland Security program designed to evaluate the possible civilian use of ‘Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems.’  In coming months, dozens of companies will come to Oklahoma to put their state-of-the-art aerial vehicles through a series of scenarios designed to test their capabilities in situations that police and firefighters might encounter.  Many of the drones being tested come with very advanced surveillance technology, including radar, video cameras, infrared thermal imagers and wireless network detectors that can collect sensitive information.”

Oklahoma Doctors vs. Obamacare

“Three years ago, Dr. Keith Smith, co-founder and managing partner of the Surgery Center of Oklahoma, took an initiative that would only be considered radical in the health care industry: He posted online a list of prices for 112 common surgical procedures.  The Surgery Center’s consumer-driven model could become increasingly common as Americans look for alternatives to the traditional health care market—an unintended consequence of Obamacare. Patients may have no choice but to look outside the traditional health care industry in the face of higher costs and reduced access to doctors and hospitals.”
