Family of man executed in Ohio using untested procedure plans suit

“The family of a prisoner who was executed in Ohio on Thursday using an untested combination of medical drugs that appeared to cause him prolonged distress are planning to sue the state for inflicting cruel and unusual punishment, in violation of the US constitution.  Dennis McGuire, 53, was put to death using an untested two-drug protocol involving the sedative midazolam and painkiller hydromorphone. Before the execution, which took an abnormally long 25 minutes, Ohio courts were warned by an anaesthesiologist who served as an expert witness for McGuire that the procedure and the doses of drugs to be used would inflict untold suffering upon the inmate.”

America’s Police State: Worse than Communist North Korea?

American police are taught to treat any act of non-compliance as ‘resisting arrest,’ a supposed offense that justifies the use of pain compliance and – in cases like that of Kelly Thomas –lethal force, if it is necessary to subdue the victim. In fact, most police who go ‘hands-on’ with a victim will pre-emptively shout ‘Stop resisting!’ even when no resistance is offered. Any incidental contact with the sanctified person of a police officer is treated as criminal battery or even aggravated assault.  Interestingly, this doesn’t appear to be the case in North Korea.”

EU inquiry draft finds NSA, GCHQ activities ‘illegal’ – report

“An EU parliamentary inquiry condemns ‘unprecedented’ and ‘indiscriminate’ mass data gathering by US and British agencies, calling for the practice to stop and questioning its legality.  The 51-page draft report prepared by the European parliament’s civil liberties committee’s rapporteur, British MEP Claude Moraes, has in the ‘strongest possible terms’ condemned mass surveillance activities of the NSA and its British counterpart, GCHQ.  The report calls on US authorities and EU states to ‘prohibit blanket mass surveillance activities and bulk processing of personal data,’ saying it is ‘very doubtful’ that the collection of information on the perceived is only guided by the fight against terrorism.’

Wyoming lawmaker says to bring back the firing squad: It’s ‘cheapest’

“A lawmaker in Wyoming says the state ought to take action now to avoid a constitutional crisis if lethal injection for convicts is ever outlawed and pass a bill to allow for the return of firing squads.  Besides, the lawmaker said, firing squads are economically sensible.  Sen. Bruce Burns said that right now, state law only allows for a gas chamber to be used in place of a lethal injection, The Associated Press reported. But that causes a dilemma in his mind.  Mr. Burns said he brought the matter to the legislative forefront because some states have reported a shortfall of the chemicals that are used in the lethal injection procedure.”

The Fight of Our Lives

antiwar_logo4

“When the country elected Barack Obama, they thought they had kicked the coup plotters out of the White House and out of power. Yet the neocon legacy stayed intact: the secret Panopticon they built was inherited and expanded by Obama & Co. Indeed, Obama’s Justice Department has gone far beyond the Bush administration in their fierce prosecution of whistle-blowers and their brazen intimidation of the media.  If anything like that had happened during the Bush years, Nancy Pelosi would’ve been at the head of a massive San Francisco demonstration where speaker after speaker would’ve denounced the ‘fascist’ Bush ‘regime.’ Today Pelosi is leading the charge against reining in the NSA.”

Executions in US drop close to 20-year low in 2013

“One explanation for the relatively low level of executions is that many drugs used in lethal injections are manufactured in Europe, where some governments opposing capital punishment have banned exporting drugs for executions.  Leading up to Maryland’s decision to abolish capital punishment was the discovery that authorities had convicted and sentenced to death the wrong man in the assault and murder of a 9-year-old girl in Baltimore County. DNA testing not only excluded Kirk Bloodsworth as the killer, but identified the actual perpetrator who is now in prison. Bloodsworth was with the Maryland governor when the measure abolishing the state’s death penalty was signed into law.”

Paul Craig Roberts: Washington Drives the World Toward War

withkitties_150_1202

“The fatal war for humanity is the war with Russia and China toward which Washington is driving the US and Washington’s NATO and Asian puppet states. There are a number of factors contributing to Washington’s drive toward the final war, but the overarching one is the doctrine of American exceptionalism.  According to this self-righteous doctrine, America is the indispensable country. What this means is that the US has been chosen by history to establish the hegemony of secular ‘democratic capitalism’ over the world. The primacy of this goal places the US government above traditional morality and above all law, both its own and international.”

How times have changed: Eric Schmidt on privacy in 2009 and today

“Back in 2009, Google CEO Eric Schmidt told CNBC that ‘if you are doing something you don’t want anybody to know, maybe you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place.’ Yesterday, the Wall Street Journal published an interview with Schmidt, during which he said: ‘The NSA allegedly collected the phone records of 320 million people in order to identify roughly 300 people who might be a risk. It’s just bad public policy…and perhaps illegal. You have to take a strong position in favor of privacy. Privacy is really the right to be left alone. Do you really want the government tracking all of those information, especially if you’re just a domestic citizen who is just going about your life?'”

Paul Craig Roberts: The Real Agenda Of The American Police State

withkitties_150_1202

“The police are taught to shoot first not once but many times, to protect their lives first at all costs, and not to risk their lives by asking questions. This is why the 13-year old kid with the toy rifle was shot to pieces. Questioning would have revealed that it was a toy gun, but questioning the ‘suspect’ might have endangered the precious police who are trained to take no risks whatsoever.  The police operate according to Obama’s presidential kill power: murder first then create a case against the victim. In other words, dear American citizen, your life is worth nothing, but the police whom you pay, are not only unaccountable but also their lives are invaluable.”

NSA tapped phones of 35 world leaders without Obama’s knowledge

“You might think that if the National Security Agency were tapping the phones of dozens of world leaders, President Obama would be aware of this fact. Apparently not—according to a Wall Street Journal report last night, the NSA’s spy operations are so extensive that not even the president of the United States knows about all of them.  Based on interviews with US officials, the paper said that ‘President Barack Obama went nearly five years without knowing his own spies were bugging the phones of world leaders. Officials said the NSA has so many eavesdropping operations under way that it wouldn’t have been practical to brief him on all of them.'”
