“Imran Khan, the former Pakistan cricket captain turned politician, was taken off an international flight from Canada to New York and questioned by US immigration officials over his views on drone strikes and jihad.  Khan, who has been at the forefront of a high-profile campaign as leader of the Pakistan Movement for Justice party (PTI) to end US drone strikes in northern Pakistan, had been in Canada to give a speech and was on his way to a fundraising dinner in the US on Friday.”

“John Kiriakou’s supposed offense – for which he was originally charged under the 1917 Espionage Act, which provides for the death penalty – was to speak critically of the torture program and identify one of the officials involved in it.  Kiriakou, one of six officials being prosecuted by the Obama administration for ‘leaking’ information about the government’s crimes, accepted a plea bargain because he has five children. That fact, to use Jessen’s terminology, made him ‘exploitable.’ Accordingly, while the architect of the torture program, Bruce Jessen, will now hold forth from a Mormon pulpit, a whistleblower will spend at least 2 1/2 years in prison.”

How Many Muslims in the World? How Many Muslim Terrorists?

“Muslim attacks worldwide and against all targets, failed and successful, add up to 18,000 since 2001. This number is bound to be controversial and subject to error. If this involved 18,000 Muslims, that’s a little over one-thousandth of one percent of Muslims who engaged in a terrorist or violent attempted attack or attack anywhere in the world. How many Muslims have American forces killed since 2001? I’ve found a low-end estimate for 1990 to 2009, and it’s 288,000. How many of these were Muslim terrorists? I can’t find a tally so far. The number is very, very small relative to 288,000. The tally for drone strikes is 2-3,000 with a high proportion being innocent people.”

Pakistan halts anti-drone protest led by ex-cricketer Imran Khan

But while the government declared a national day of protests over a blasphemous film last month, it had never called for such a protest over the drone strikes. Khan, who blames the government for allowing the U.S. to operate in the country, had planned to lead the protest from the capital into South Waziristan, a tribal area frequently hit by the drone strikes.  But authorities blocked the protesters’ path with shipping containers on the highway.”
