Reid: ‘Anarchists have taken over’ in Congress

EPJ13

“Reid said Tea Party Republicans are preventing progress on an energy efficiency bill by offering amendments on ObamaCare and other unrelated issues.  ‘They’ve taken over the House and now they’ve taken over the Senate.  People who don’t believe in government — and that’s what the Tea Party is all about — are winning, and that’s a shame.’  Wait until Reid sees what it is like when the private property society advocates takeover and not just the anarchist-lite Tea Party-types. Then we start to get serious: no minimum wage laws, no taxes, no Department of Education or Enery, and an end to the Fed…..for starters.”

College Students Chase, Heckle David Petraeus on First Day of Class

“Petraeus was on the way to teaching his first class at CUNY’s honors college, entitled ‘Are We on the Threshold of the North American Decade?’ He took on the teaching gig as part of rehabilitating his image following an extramarital affair scandal that led to his resignation from the CIA.  The students can be heard yelling ‘War criminal!’ at the retired military officer who played a key role in the ‘counterinsurgency’ strategy of the Iraq War. ‘Every class, David!’ the students shout, suggesting they plan to protest him on a weekly basis, before every lecture.  ‘Petraeus out of CUNY’ and ‘Fascist’ were some of the other chants.”

Kerry becomes first war casualty

“Much as the strike may (or may not) weaken the Syrian armed forces and diminish its military capabilities, Kerry’s capacity to be an effective secretary of state for the reminder of President Barack Obama’s term may have been seriously ‘degraded’ already. The point is, over three full eventful years still remain in Obama’s presidency and three years is a lot time in politics.  Kerry’s tragedy is that he is being called upon to defend an indefensible brief.  Three major gaffes within the space of a week is a terrible record for a top diplomat to pile up under any circumstances.”

After Bold Step on Syria, French Leader Finds Himself Dismissed as Lackey

“As portrayed in a satirical television show here this week, President François Hollande is left behind to hold President Obama’s coat while the American leader and President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia hold private talks. Mr. Hollande gullibly concludes he is playing a key role.  In the show, ‘Les Guignols de L’Info,’ a rough equivalent of ‘The Daily Show,’ Mr. Hollande is seen interrupting a visit to a school to ask Mr. Obama’s permission to use the bathroom.  If Mr. Hollande ever thought that his decision to stand steadfast alongside the United States in backing a retaliatory strike against Syria would give him new stature on the global stage or help him at home, the last week has been a sharp shock.”

Obama on Verge of Historic Rebuke Over Syria

“Pundits on both sides of the aisle say losing the high-stakes bid for congressional authorization would make Obama an instant lame-duck, and might well endanger his entire second-term agenda.  On Thursday afternoon, as the whip counts were being tallied, the realization dawned in the nation’s capital that President Obama is perilously close to what would be an historic, humiliating international rebuke.  To date, no major military power or international organization has supported Obama’s stated intention to launch a cruise-missile barrage at Assad, the so-called ‘shot across the bow.'”

Bravo Britain

“BBC News fails to lead its Internet page with the magnificent news that Parliament, for once, has executed the will of the people, and that the UK will be staying out of Syria. Instead, the left-liberal interventionist at BBC News (people of Samantha Power’s ilk) have buried the item in an article about ‘I, Obama’ (America’s imperial president), and his administration’s various ahistoric, idiotic pronouncements. BBC News makes only veiled allusions to the ‘unexpected outcome in the parliament,’ to ‘British MPs [ruling] out London’s involvement in any US-led strikes against Syria,’ and to ‘British members of [parliament’s rejection] of the principle of military action against Damascus in a 285-272 vote.'”

British parliament votes against military strike on Syria

“British Prime Minister David Cameron said Thursday it was clear parliament ‘does not want to see British military action’ in Syria after the government suffered a stunning defeat on the issue. A government motion calling for lawmakers to back military action in principle was defeated 285 to 272, a majority of 13 votes, in the House of Commons. ‘It is clear to me that the British parliament, reflecting the views of the British people, does not want to see British military action. I get that and the government will act accordingly,’ Cameron said after the result was announced. The defeat will be seen as a severe rebuff for Cameron, who had recalled parliament from its summer recess to vote on the issue.”

Ohio police chief hospitalized after eating ‘cannabis cake’

“An Easter morning craving turned into a cause for concern for the chief of police in Lawrenceville, Ohio, after the cake he ate turned out to be laced with cannabis oil.  Burkemeyer said he ate the entire cake on March 31 after seeing it on his kitchen counter. But when he began feeling ill, he told the station, he drove to his station for help. ‘I don’t remember much of the drive here, even though it’s just a few blocks,’ he said. The cake was allegedly brought to the house by a friend’s boyfriend. WBNS reported that the Sheriff’s office for Hocking County, Ohio, is determining whether to charge the man with assault and ‘corrupting another with drugs.'”

Argentina Just Lost Huge To A Bunch Of Hedge Fund Creditors

“For years the country has been trying to avoid paying a bunch of ‘vulture’ hedge fund managers that refused to take a 70% haircut on Argentine bonds like every other investor. This has resulted in some wacky news items — Paul Singer getting the government of Ghana to impound an Argentine naval ship last October, President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner flying commercial to see the Pope so her jet isn’t taken — you get the idea. Now it’s (almost) come to a head.  A New York Judge fully rejected Argentina’s appeal of a decision made last year — a decision that would’ve had it pay Singer and company in full.”

U.S. Air Force can’t find enough people willing to be drone pilots

“The US Air Force is unable to keep up with a growing demand for pilots capable of operating drones, partly due to a shortage of volunteers, according to a new study. Despite the importance placed on the burgeoning robotic fleet, drone operators face a lack of opportunities for promotion to higher ranks and the military has failed to identify and cultivate this new category of aviators, Air Force Colonel Bradley Hoagland wrote in the report published for the Brookings Institution think tank. As of last year, the Air Force has 1,300 drone pilots, making up about 8.5 percent of the force’s aviators, compared to 3.3 percent four years [earlier].”
