“When Chicago police broke into his Austin home with guns drawn and a search warrant, Markee Cooper Sr., a cop himself, and his family could only look on as drawers and closets were searched for crack cocaine based on an alleged informant’s tip.  On Friday, a federal jury awarded Cooper and his family $565,000 in damages after finding one officer at fault for a falsified warrant and two others responsible for the illegal 2007 search.
Their two young sons, Markee Jr., 13, and Zion, 8, were traumatized at seeing their father confront a roomful of cops with guns before kneeling to the living room floor and handing over his badge and weapon.”

“Piedmont police have fired the officer who ticketed a mom $2,500 after her son urinated in their front yard.  After allegedly being harassed by this officer, the Warden family got justice. The $2,500 ticket was dropped, the police chief personally apologized, and the officer was disciplined.  Both the mayor and the police chief said the officer should have used better judgment. Veteran officer Ken Qualls was suspended on Tuesday, and he was fired on Friday.”

“The court ruled against an injunction by Apple requesting that a Mexican company with the registered name iFone cease using their brand, in order to avoid possible confusion among customers. The Mexican company had registered its brand in 2003, four years before Apple’s registration for the iPhone brand name in the country.  iFone, a telecommunications company, later countersued for damages, meaning the Mexican company could have rights to 40% of Apple’s iPhone sales revenue in the country.”

Swiss to tax family of suicide data thief

“Tax authorities in the canton of Zurich are demanding 1.5 million francs ($1.6 million, €1.2 million) from the family of an Austrian man who committed suicide after he was arrested in September 2010 for stealing and selling the data to authorities in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.  The 42-year-old Credit Suisse employee reportedly received 2.5 million francs for the stolen data, which led German authorities to raid branches of the Swiss bank in 13 German cities.  Swiss authorities had blocked the heirs’ access to his entire estate in anticipation of the tax payment.”
