“So-called ‘opiates’ are a very lucrative market for Big Pharma. Unfortunately, their chemical construction often renders them overly-powerful for some people, even when only a little is ingested. Additionally, chemical combinations mimicking natural compositions often yield up considerable ‘side effects.’ The use of marijuana by itself or in combination with opiates seems to be ameliorating or at least lessening some of the dangers of chemically constructed painkillers. This is certainly good news. What remains problematic is the continued barrage of criticism that cannabis is subject to from deep-pocketed pharmaceutical companies and from law enforcement itself.”

Medical Marijuana Research Hits Wall of U.S. Law

“Though more than one million people are thought to use the drug to treat ailments ranging from cancer to seizures to hepatitis C and chronic pain, there are few rigorous studies showing whether the drug is a fruitful treatment for those or any other conditions. In the case of marijuana, restrictions are even greater than for other controlled substances. To obtain the drug legally, researchers like Dr. Sisley must apply to the Food and Drug Administration, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the National Institute on Drug Abuse — which, citing a 1961 treaty obligation, administers the only legal source of the drug for federally sanctioned research, at the University of Mississippi.”
Alzheimer’s Caused By Loss of Cannabinoid Pathways, Study Shows

“Early deficits in Alzheimer’s may be caused by blockage of the brain’s cannabinoids, according to new research out of Stanford University. This interference with the brain’s cannabinoids may be the mechanism by which early memory deficits in Alzheimer’s are formed. A 2013 study by researchers from Neuroscience Research Australia suggests an ingredient in marijuana called CBD could be beneficial. The team found that treatment with CBD led to drastic improvements in memory in mice genetically engineered to mimic Alzheimer’s disease. Besides the potential to combat Alzheimer’s symptoms, some studies suggest cannabinoids also hold promise in slowing progression of the disorder.”

Politics leads to cancellation of only U.S. medical marijuana study

“Medical cannabis use is recognized legally in almost half of the states, yet getting approval to study the health benefits of the drug is harder than getting a medical marijuana license. So it was a big deal last spring when Dr. Sue Sisley at the University of Arizona won rare federal approval to test marijuana’s effects on veterans with PTSD. Local government funding meant for the program was canceled after a state senator challenged using the money for Sisley’s research. After Sisley argued against the de-funding of her program, pressure from state government ultimately led to her dismissal from the University of Arizona, according to Sisley.”
Google pulls leading robots from DARPA involvement

“ATLAS, a stompy kill-bot created by Boston Dynamics, and SCHAFT, a more abstract but well-balanced man-bot created by a Japanese company of the same name, were recently purchased by Google, which has made a rather abrupt overall turn toward robotics research. Schaft’s decisive first place and ATLAS’ strong second-place finish in the first leg of DARPA’s Grand Challenge are now basically Google’s by corporate marriage. That’s a problem for DARPA, since Google has vowed not to pursue any military contracts in the future — and this week, that policy finally came into effect. DARPA and Google have two competing narratives as to why this happened.”
Growing Warmist Intolerance Threatens Social and Legal Fabric
“This is really an outrageous letter in that it equates legitimate differences of opinion with an attack on state policy. The implication, of course, is that ‘undermining’ is illegal. There are real costs to these promotions. People’s careers and livelihoods are affected. Not only is this sort of warmist intolerance affecting individual careers, it is also depriving groups – even whole continents – of the right to a broad energy marketplace. As in other areas, warmist tactics and intolerance increasingly polarize issues and make rational discussion difficult to pursue. When political interactions become marginalized, or even criminalized, then authoritarianism inevitably expands.”
The Bogus “97% of Climate Scientists Agree” Claim
“There’s a bait-and-switch occurring here. As Friedman spells out, all you need to do is actually look at Cook et al.’s own tables in their paper to see that others (including Cook himself in a subsequent paper!) are misrepresenting their findings. Only 1.6% of the surveyed abstracts clearly say that humans are the main cause of global warming. The 97.1% figure includes papers that merely claim that some amount of warming can be attributed to human activities. Many of the prominent scientists associated with the ‘denier’ label–such as Richard Lindzen, Roy Spencer, Pat Michaels, and Chip Knappenberger (whom I feature here a lot)–would fit into this ‘consensus.'”

Colorado: State Approves Up To $10 Million For Cannabis Research

“Democrat Gov. John Hickenlooper on Wednesdayapproved legislation to fund observational and clinical research assessing the safety and therapeutic efficacy of cannabis. The measure earmarks up to $10 million within the state’s medical marijuana program fund to be utilized specifically to “gather objective scientific research regarding the efficacy of administering marijuana and its component parts as part of medical treatment.” The law also establishes a ‘scientific advisory council,’ which may include expert participants from around the nation, to evaluate research proposals and make recommendations in regards to funding requests.”

Bill Bonner: Here’s Proof That Wealthy Elites Control Washington
“We had no proof. Just an observation. But it looks to us as though government always begins and ends as a tool for those who control it. It is not the product of a ‘social contract.’ It is not an expression of the ‘general will.’ It is not the ‘price we pay for civilization.’ It is not ‘captured by wealthy special interests.’ On the contrary, it is as blunt and stupid as a crowbar. It is used by the elite to pry wealth, status and power away from everyone else. Few victims of the public school system believed us, but now cometh a study from Princeton and Northwestern universities proving we were right.”

The Cannabis Conspiracy?
“It suited Modern Internationalism to put people in jail for using drugs. But that was in the 20th century. In the 21st century, it suits our leaders to legalize drugs and then build a UN-oriented globalist infrastructure to ‘cure’ addicts. It is always in the service of globalism. Policies, moral pronouncements – war itself – these are nothing but tools intended to create specific outcomes. Ultimately, we are seeing further justifications for a new kind of directed history. It starts with cannabis, but perhaps it doesn’t end there …”
