Violence Rages in Baltimore Despite Governor O’Malley’s New Gun Control Laws

“It is important to note that before O’Malley signed new gun control laws in May, Maryland already had some of the strictest gun laws in the country and also some of the worst violence in its big cities. Baltimore was bad and now, it’s getting worse.  New laws require that anyone who wants to buy a firearm must be finger printed. Maryland turned law abiding citizens who simply want to exercise their Second Amendment rights, into crime suspects before they had done anything wrong. But guess what? That didn’t work to reduce crime, either.”

Colorado Democrats fail to stave off recall efforts after supporting gun control

“Giron and Morse are being targeted for recalls because they both supported gun control measures. Gun-rights activists say Democrats went too far curbing gun rights with two of the measures — one to restrict ammunition magazines and another to expand required background checks. Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper would ultimately set the recall election dates, but not before legal challenges are exhausted. If Morse and Giron face recall elections, they’d be the first state lawmakers to go to a recall vote since Colorado adopted the recall in 1912. Grueskin, the lawyer making both recall challenges, has said he’d appeal decisions to the Denver District Court.”

Insurers dropping Kansas schools over concealed-carry law for teachers

“At least three insurance companies have refused to renew their coverage policies for Kansas schools in the wake of a new law allowing teachers to carry firearms on campus, The Des Moines Register reported on Sunday. The New York Times reported that school district administrators in Oregon are balking after the state School Boards Association, which manages liability coverage for the vast majority of school districts there, instituted an additional premium worth $2,500 for every faculty member who has a firearm on campus.”

With nation’s strongest gun control laws, Chicago sees stunning 72 shootings over weekend

“The Fourth of July weekend was an especially bloody time in Chicago this year, where 72 people were shot over the course of just four days according to local media. Of that 72, NBC Chicago reported that 12 men were killed. A 5-year-old boy and a 7-year-old boy were also seriously injured in separate events, as was a 72-year-old woman who was reportedly shot in the ankle. NBC Chicago noted that at least three individuals who took bullets over the weekend are refusing to cooperate with police.  4,265 were murdered in Chicago from 2003-2011, according to HBO’s Vice, whereas 4,422 American soldiers died of violence in Iraq over that same period.”

CDC Report Fatally Shoots Obama’s Theory of Gun Violence

“Obama earlier this year issued an executive order commanding the Centers for Disease Control to do a study of gun violence in America — as if gun violence is caused by a disease. The CDC did what it was told. It has issued a report. It shoots down Obama.  ‘Between the years 2000-2010 firearm-related suicides significantly outnumbered homicides for all age groups, annually accounting for 61 percent of the more than 335,600 people who died from firearms related violence in the United States.’ This creates a major problem for Obama. It’s difficult for the government to prosecute users of unregistered handguns who kill themselves.”

With Bullets Scarce, More Shooters Make Their Own

“Gun stores around the country have had difficulty keeping up with demand for ammunition in recent months. Fears of government tightening of gun and ammunition controls have meant that retailers, from Wal-Mart to mom-and-pop gun shops, haven’t been able to keep bullets on the shelves.   Shopper Robert Nicholson, like thousands of other shooters, is going a different route. He’s making more of the bullets he shoots. Shop owner Cliff Poser says the scarcity of ready-made bullets has frustrated shooters to the point they’re spending between $200 and $1,000 to get into the hobby known as ‘reloading.'”

Missouri governor vetoes bill to nullify federal gun laws

“The legislation would have made it a misdemeanor crime for federal agents to attempt to enforce any federal gun regulations that ‘infringe on the people’s right to keep and bear arms.’ It also sought to invalidate some specific federal laws, including a 1934 law that imposed on tax on transferring machine guns or silencers.  The measure would have made it a misdemeanor to publish the names of gun owners.  Missouri’s age to obtain a conceal-carry permit would have been lowered to 19 instead of the current 21, and the bill would have allowed people with concealed gun permits to openly carry firearms up to 16 inches long.”

New York Gun Manufacturer Moves to Pennsylvania. “Catch Us if You Can.”

“New York passed the SAFE law on gun manufacturers in January, after debating for one day. That sent a message to one gun manufacturer. It bought 600 acres — almost a square mile — of land in Pennsylvania. It’s moving out. The Kahr company’s vice president of sales explained: ‘One of our big concerns was, OK, the SAFE Act was passed in the middle of the night. You wake up the next morning and boom, that was it. We just felt like, gee, if they can do this, what can they do next?’  This used to be called ‘voting with your feet.’ If you get tired of living under a government’s taxes and regulations, you move.”

“Mental Illness” Diagnoses Are the Slippery Slope to Gun Confiscation

“The definition of someone who is officially ‘mentally ill’ could be changed at a moment’s notice once these types of laws are in place, making them an extreme danger to rights. So far, only California and New York have implemented them, but other states may follow. As the situation stands now, the New York law mandates that all mental health professionals, psychiatrists, and psychologists must report any patient they believe may be ‘dangerous’ to local officials, who will then have the authority to seize all firearms that individual might own — don’t make your psychiatrist angry.”
