“A student from Texas has invented a plastic pistol that anyone can make with a 3-D printer. It is undetectable by metal detectors and capable of killing. And it is spreading unchecked across the continents.  A few days after Cody Wilson’s invention had been created, the United States Department of Homeland Security issued a warning to the rest of the world. The officials, responsible for fending off terrorist attacks, wrote three pages about the dangers of a weapon against which they are powerless. They wrote that public safety is threatened. They also wrote that, unfortunately, it is impossible to prevent this weapon from being made.”

California Elementary School Hosts Toy Gun Buyback, Fingerprinting Fair

“An elementary school in Hayward California held a toy gun exchange Saturday (6/8/13), offering students a book and a chance to win a bicycle if they turned in their play weapons. At Saturday’s event, called Strobridge Elementary Safety Day, a Hayward police officer demonstrated bicycle and gun safety, and the Alameda County Fire Department sent a rig and crew to talk about fire safety. Fingerprinting and photographing of children was offered, with the information put on CDs for parents. All youngsters who attended were given a ticket to exchange for a book.”

Carroll County passes resolution opposing new Maryland gun law

“Carroll County officials have taken a stand against Maryland’s tough new gun law, voting to support law enforcement officials who use discretion in choosing when to enforce it. The Board of County Commissioners unanimously passed a Second Amendment Preservation Resolution, stating that it believes Maryland’s new law is unconstitutional. Two other counties — Cecil and Harford — also have passed resolutions opposing the law.”

Colorado Sheriffs Unite to Block ‘Unenforceable’ Gun Control Laws

“In the wake of the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado passed some of the strictest gun control measures in the country. But in recent months, an overwhelming 55 of the state’s 62 county sheriffs have joined a lawsuit aiming to block the measures. Sheriff Terry Maketa of El Paso County is one of the opposing sheriffs. Maketa says they believe the laws are unenforceable, but also violate the Second and Fourteenth Amendments. After explaining the tactics used to pass the bills that essentially ‘eliminated all public input,’ Maketa reiterated that it’s clearly an ‘overreaching step’ for politicians to claim law enforcement supports stricter gun control.”

Texas Gun Sales Are Off the Charts

“Gander Mountain is opening four new stores in Texas. The company describes itself as a ‘firearms super center.’ Demand is high and growing. The stores are for outdoorsmen, but these days, indoorsmen are walking in the stores’ doors too. Texas is gun-friendly.  The boom in ammunition sales shows no sign of tapering off. This marks a change in sentiment. Gun owners are responding to political threats in the Northeast, but in the West and South, there is no trace of gun control sentiment.”

Kansas Law: No More Government Money Promoting Gun Control

“The governor of Kansas has signed a law that prohibits local governments from using taxpayers’ money to promote gun control. They may not produce or distribute ‘any kit, pamphlet, booklet, publication, electronic communication, radio, television or video presentation’ that is related to gun control. They may not hire lobbyists, either. Gun control promoters say this is an infringement on their constitutional right to take money from taxpayers and then use this money to promote their own agendas.”

11 Year-Old Boy Suspended From School Because He Said ‘Gun’

“In a radio interview, Bruce Henkelman, the boy’s father, claimed that a school bus driver overheard the boy use the word ‘gun’ and then took him to the principal.  The boy was then questioned by both the principal and a Sherriff’s deputy. Henkelman said that the school’s principal, Darrel Prioleau, told him that ‘[W]ith what happened at Sandy Hook, if you say the word ‘gun’ in my school, you are going to get suspended for 10 days.’ In a Monday interview with Washington, DC-based radio station WMAL, Henkelman claimed that the young boy was telling fellow students how he would have stopped the Sandy Hook shooting if he had been there with a firearm.”

Florida Sheriff Arrested After Defending Second Amendment

“A Florida sheriff who believes in the Second Amendment was charged Tuesday for removing the arrest file of a suspect held on an unconstitutional gun charge but later released. Liberty County Sheriff Nicholas Finch, 50, was booked in his own jail Tuesday with one count of official misconduct by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The FDLE accuses Finch of covering up the arrest of Floyd Eugene Parrish after releasing him from the Liberty County Jail. Parrish had been arrested for carrying a concealed firearm without a license, a third-degree felony in Florida.”

Cowboy-style cap gun gets 5-year-old ousted from school in Calvert County

“A kindergartner who brought a cowboy-style cap gun onto his Calvert County school bus was suspended for 10 days after showing a friend the orange-tipped toy, which he had tucked inside his backpack on his way to school, according to his family and a lawyer. The child was questioned for more than two hours before his mother was called, she said, adding that he uncharacteristically wet his pants during the episode. If the punishment stands, it would become part of the boy’s permanent school record and keep him out of classes the rest of the school year, the family said. He would miss his end-of-year kindergarten program at Dowell Elementary School in Lusby.”

Boy, 6, gets detention for Lego gun on bus

“A Massachusetts kindergartener has been given detention and could be suspended from the bus after bringing a Lego-sized gun to school last week.  A 6-year-old had the toy gun, which is slightly larger than a quarter, on the bus and it was seen by another student, who alerted the bus driver. The boy’s mother, Mieke Crane, said her son had to write a letter of apology to the driver, was given detention and could be temporarily suspended from the bus. The school sent home a letter to parents explaining what happened. ‘(The driver) said he caused quite a disturbance on the bus and that the children were traumatized,’ Crane told WGGB.”
