Florida pot grower busted for manufacturing ‘high-end assault rifles’

“Police in Port St. Lucie, Florida announced on Wednesday that they had arrested a couple on charges related to a ‘weapons manufacturing warehouse’ and a marijuana growing operations, according to TCPalm. WPTV reported that a traffic stop made by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office earlier in the week led to a marijuana grow house, which then led to a warehouse facility where ‘high-end’ weapons were being manufactured.  At a warehouse on Northwest Settle Avenue, investigators found about 150 marijuana plants and ten guns, including an AK-47 military-style assault rifle.”

8th Grader Arrested, Suspended for NRA ‘Protect Your Right’ T-Shirt With Image of Gun

“An eighth grade student from West Virginia has been arrested, suspended and faces charges for wearing an NRA T-shirt with the image of a firearm and the words ‘Protect Your Right’ printed on it to school.  ‘I never thought it would go this far because honestly I don’t see a problem with this. There shouldn’t be a problem with this,’ Marcum told WOWK-TV.  Police confirmed that Marcum had been arrested and faced charges of obstruction and disturbing the education process after getting into an argument over the shirt with a teacher at Logan Middle School, which is south of Charleston.”

Feds firm on gun denials for pot users

“The federal form all firearms purchasers are required to fill out includes this question: ‘Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana … ?’ An untruthful response to this question is a crime, said a spokesman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.  When it comes to marijuana law, the states and federal government have been in an awkward stalemate, with states such as Colorado taking an increasingly casual attitude toward marijuana and the federal government refusing to declassify it from a Schedule 1 narcotic – the same class as heroin and methamphetamine.”

David Lewis attorney says gun confiscation no “error”

“All of this apparently stems from Governor Cuomo’s signature gun control bill, the SAFE Act, which requires mental health professionals to notify the state when they believe a patient is at risk of hurting themselves or others. State Police and the Erie County Clerk had misidentified Lewis as such a threat, confusing him with someone else with the same name. Both sides have blamed each other for the snafu.  It’s not sitting well with some State Senator Michael Ranzenhofer (R-Amherst) and State Assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak (D-Cheektowaga). They are calling for an investigation of how the police are using medical records to seize guns.”

Supreme Court refuses to take up challenge against New York public gun law

“The Supreme Court declined on Monday to discuss a challenge to a New York state law requiring prospective gun owners to demonstrate they need to defend themselves before getting a concealed-carry license for a handgun.  The New York Times reported that the court’s decision effectively backs a ruling by the federal Court of Appeals for New York upholding the law. New York state attorney general Eric Schneiderman filed a brief to the high court arguing that the New York law, similar to measures in at least seven other states, operated in accordance with the Second Amendment.”

Colorado Sheriffs Suing Their Own State Over New Gun Laws

“Exposing the disconnect between Colorado politicians and the law enforcement officers charged with upholding the law, more than half of the sheriffs in the state are planning to file a lawsuit against recent gun control laws passed by Democrats.  While politicians may pass the laws, law-enforcement officials are the ones who have to deal with the real-world implications of putting the new laws into effect. Because of this, 37 of the state’s 62 sheriffs have announced their plans to file a lawsuit against the new laws, saying they are unconstitutional and unenforceable.”

Missouri Highway Patrol gave concealed carry permits data to feds

“Missouri’s database of concealed weapon permits was twice given to federal authorities investigating Social Security disability fraud in a move that has enraged lawmakers already angry over potential abuses in a new driver’s licensing system.  Missouri State Highway Patrol Col. Ron Replogle was questioned for nearly an hour this morning by the Senate Appropriations Committee after he revealed to Chairman Kurt Schaefer yesterday that his agency had turned over the data.  The delivery of the information to federal authorities has become a huge issue for lawmakers since they began raising questions about new driver’s licensing procedures.”

Do Police See Guns as a threat to “Officer Safety”?

“The view that so-called weak gun laws endanger the lives of police doesn’t seem to be shared by many police officers.  A survey of 15,000 active-duty police officers  conducted on behalf of PoliceOne.com found that nearly all of them – 95 percent – said that a federal ban on high-capacity ammo magazines would not reduce violent crime. Seventy-one percent said that a federal ban on so-called assault weapons would likewise be useless as a crime reduction measure – and twenty percent said that it would actually have a negative effect on reducing violent crime.”
