Lawmakers Vote to Let Obama Take Your Passport Without Trial

“The Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted to give the Obama administration the unilateral power to strip you of your passport and right to travel without a trial or even criminal charges. The scheme does not even include a way to challenge your status as a non-person involuntarily trapped inside U.S. borders on orders from the secretary of state. Lawmakers, some of whom could themselves be caught in the dragnet along with myriad administration officials, praised the effort as a way to stop alleged terrorists from travelling. But critics said it was yet another attack on the fundamental rights of Americans, such as due-process protections, and that it must be resisted.”

Pentagon Paying ISIS-Linked ‘Rebels’ $400 per Month to ‘Eventually’ Fight Assad

“The Pentagon announced Monday that it has begun paying ‘moderate’ Syrian rebels up to $400 per month to fight ISIS and eventually the Syrian government.  The program, deemed ‘critical’ by Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter, aims to equip as many as 5,400 fighters within the next 12 months, reports USA Today.  According to Pentagon spokeswoman Elissa Smith, roughly 6,000 Syrians have already expressed interest in the program, with more than half preparing to be vetted. Recently declassified Pentagon documents confirm Western governments’ regional support of al-Qaeda, a terrorist organization now deceptively labeled ‘moderate.'”

Pentagon report predicted its support for Islamist rebels would create ISIS

“According to the newly declassified US document, the Pentagon foresaw the likely rise of the ‘Islamic State’ as a direct consequence of this strategy, and warned that it could destabilize Iraq. Despite anticipating that Western, Gulf state and Turkish support for the ‘Syrian opposition’ — which included al-Qaeda in Iraq — could lead to the emergence of an ‘Islamic State’ in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the document provides no indication of any decision to reverse the policy of support to the Syrian rebels. On the contrary, the emergence of an al-Qaeda affiliated ‘Salafist Principality’ as a result is described as a strategic opportunity to isolate Assad.”

Huge US Weapons Cache Stolen in Libya Now in al-Qaida Hands [2013]

“U.S. officials said on Wednesday that a huge cache of American weapons stolen in Libya over the summer was far larger than once thought. The weapons are now with al-Qaida and other terrorist groups linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, according to news reports.  The highly sensitive military equipment was stolen in overnight raids on a military training post used by U.S. Special Forces outside Tripoli.  The 12-member team was pulled from Libya in August because of the thefts.  The missing equipment now includes dozens of highly armored vehicles, called GMVs.  Outfitted with GPS technology, the vehicles have weapon mounts and can accommodate smoke-grenade launchers, they said.”

Who’s Funding ISIS? Wealthy Gulf ‘Angel Investors,’ Officials Say

“A small but steady flow of money to ISIS from rich individuals in the Gulf continues, say current and former U.S. officials, with Qataris the biggest suppliers. These rich individuals have long served as ‘angel investors,’ as one expert put it, for the most violent militants in the region, providing the ‘seed money’ that helped launch ISIS and other jihadi groups. The U.S. believes ISIS is taking in about $1 million a day from all sources. The largest source of cash now, say U.S. officials, is oil smuggling along the Turkish border, with ISIS leaders willing to sell oil from conquered Syrian and Iraqi fields for as little as $25 a barrel, a quarter of the going world price.”
