Legalization of Pot Means Trouble for Private Prisons

“At one time, private prison investments were great. They were making tons of money because it was this grand idea on how it was going to be so much better than the state led prisons. However, it now looks like one of the worst investments you can make.  With the potential abolition of mandatory sentencing for drug crimes, and many prisons cutting ties with CCA, MTC, and GEO Group (NYSE: GEO) because of their poor management abilities, it’s just going to get worse. If these company prisons end up having to bring in riskier offenders to already understaffed facilities, more problems are sure to arise. When the problems increase, they become a less attractive option.”

10 Signs The Global Elite Are Losing Control

“The more the elite try to control humanity, the more entropy occurs. Entropy, for those who don’t know, is the lack of order or predictability; a gradual decline into disorder.
Although the elite still enjoy a huge wealth advantage over the masses, they are now resigned to behaving like tyrants to maintain control. This, in turn, exposes their dark side which has been cleverly concealed for ages. Not anymore. People are waking up in droves, at least as fast as the elite can build their full-spectrum prison matrix.  Let them try.  To paraphrase Victor Hugo, ‘No army can stop an idea whose time has come.’  Here are ten signs that the elite are losing control over the people.”

Record-High 42% of Americans Identify as Independents

“Forty-two percent of Americans, on average, identified as political independents in 2013, the highest Gallup has measured since it began conducting interviews by telephone 25 years ago. Meanwhile, Republican identification fell to 25%, the lowest over that time span. At 31%, Democratic identification is unchanged from the last four years but down from 36% in 2008.  Americans are increasingly declaring independence from the political parties. The general trend in recent years, including the 2012 election year, has been toward greater percentages of Americans identifying with neither the Republican Party nor the Democratic Party, although most still admit to leaning toward one of the parties.”

NY Governor to Establish Medical Marijuana Program

“New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) will use his State of the State address Wednesday to announce he will sign an executive order to allow the limited use of marijuana, the New York Times reported Saturday. The move comes as the state legislature is set to debate pending medical marijuana legislation in Albany.  The executive order will cite a 1980 law that allows for the use of controlled substances to treat serious illnesses. The narrowly-tailored program will allow only 20 hospitals statewide to provide marijuana to patients suffering from a short list of specified conditions. The Department of Health, in consultation with experts, will be charged with drafting regulations for the program.”

CNN Poll Finds 55% Support Marijuana Legalization

“A CNN/ORC International survey released Monday has a solid majority of Americans supporting the legalization of marijuana. Some 55% agreed that marijuana should be legal, with 44% disagreeing.  CNN called the results ‘a major turnaround from past decades,’ citing its own and General Social Surveying polls showing support for legalization at only 16% in 1987, before rising to 26% in 1996 and 34% in 2002. Support has jumped 12 point in just two years; CNN had support at 43% in 2012.  The CNN poll results are similar to an October Gallup Poll that had support for legalization a record-breaking 58% nationwide. That was in line with a number of other polls since the 2012 elections.”

Belgium Central Bank Remains Positive About Bitcoin, Unofficially

“The National Bank of Belgium doesn’t have any plans to regulate bitcoin further, according to the Belgian Bitcoin Association.  Belgium’s central bank met with the Association to discuss the digital currency last Monday, describing the meeting as ‘informal’.  Thomas Spaas, a board member who represented the Belgian Bitcoin Association at the meeting, said that although the meeting was informal and did not reflect the central bank’s official position, he expected Belgium to adopt a similar position to France, the Netherlands and Germany, where bitcoin is considered to be beyond the scope of current regulations.”

Malaysian Central Bank Has No Plans To Regulate Bitcoin

“CoinDesk spoke to Colbert Low, the founder of local services and consultancy firm BitcoinMalaysia.com, about whether the central bank’s statement would change anything.  Low compared the BNM’s stance to that of the neighboring Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) last month. After originally warning investors to ‘be wary’ of bitcoin in September, the authority announced later it would not regulate it at all.  Malaysia shares similar traits with Singapore in that it has a healthy supply of young IT professionals (both on the hardware and software side) and also serves as a regional hub for financial services, making it attractive ground for digital currency developers as well.”

Executions in US drop close to 20-year low in 2013

“One explanation for the relatively low level of executions is that many drugs used in lethal injections are manufactured in Europe, where some governments opposing capital punishment have banned exporting drugs for executions.  Leading up to Maryland’s decision to abolish capital punishment was the discovery that authorities had convicted and sentenced to death the wrong man in the assault and murder of a 9-year-old girl in Baltimore County. DNA testing not only excluded Kirk Bloodsworth as the killer, but identified the actual perpetrator who is now in prison. Bloodsworth was with the Maryland governor when the measure abolishing the state’s death penalty was signed into law.”

Most Americans think US should ‘mind its own business’ abroad

“A majority of Americans believe the US plays a less important and powerful role in the world than it did 10 years ago, according to a long-running study that found that most people now believe America should ‘mind its own business internationally’.  It is the first time the survey of US foreign policy attitudes has recorded such a sentiment in almost four decades of polling.   The findings, published on Tuesday by the Pew Research Center in association with the Council on Foreign Relations, suggest Americans want their leaders to adopt a less interventionist approach, although there is a growing desire for the development of stronger trade and business links abroad.”

‘Economist’: Europe’s Politicians Need to Tame the ‘Net Reformation

the-daily-bell-top-logo61

“What is going on has only happened once before in quasi-modern history and the results echoed for centuries. People were exposed to new information and decided the old paradigms were false ones, designed to control them. The results had little to do with refining normal command-and-control structures. Eventually, the elites abandoned the Divinity of Kings and substituted, over time, regulatory democracy. Now it is the turn of regulatory democracy to wither. Too much is known about its falsity and the false historical narratives that accompany it.  People are discovering that what they have learned from childhood forward is not the truth, not even a semblance of the truth.”
