Interview with Jesse Heaslip, Bitcoin Entrepreneur

“Electronic currencies are not going to exist outside of the current regulatory structure, at least not popular ones with longevity. When you look at what happens to places like Silk Road, you can see that. The authorities shut them down. On the other hand, if you are willing to work within the rules of the current structures, then there are absolutely tremendous opportunities. The deals being made in Silicon Valley are getting bigger and bigger and are starting to take place in the tens of millions. The potential has barely been scratched. One out of every 400 people in the US now has a Coinbase account.”

Paul Krugman Is Wrong: Bitcoin Isn’t Evil, But Monetary ‘Stimulus’ Is

“Krugman asserts that bitcoin is evil because it is a ‘weapon intended to damage central banking’ and makes it harder for states to tax and monitor people. He gets it exactly backwards. A weapon is a tool used to attack someone. But bitcoin users aren’t attacking anyone; they are avoiding an attack. As the tax burden grows heavier, and surveillance intrudes more deeply, it’s reasonable for people to seek shelter. They just want to protect themselves.”

Sweden moves closer to a cashless society with new business registry

“The troublesome legislation does not end with a government registry and yet another extraction of resources from the citizens. Businesses must now in many cases also violate the privacy of its customers. According to the law, businesses or their employees must obtain detailed knowledge about its customers and also ask for their identification. Any suspicious activity should be reported to the financial police. Funnily enough businesses does not have to obtain knowledge about their customers if they are dealing with Swedish authorities or with banks and insurance companies. Article 2 section 5 of the law states that these are exempt.”

Cognitive Dissonance of Ben Bernanke?

the-daily-bell-top-logo61

“The aggrandizement of ‘leaders’ who preside over massive price-fixing facilities such as central banks and legislatures ought to be identified as the hype that it is. There is no possible way that even the most sophisticated analysis of previous indicators can yield up legitimate and accurate projections. Those internationalists who have constructed the current system know that. Hence, the almost obsessive concentration on academic degrees and ‘expert’ appellations. The idea is to fool people into believing the ‘best-of-the-best’ have ‘expert’ powers that allow them to peer into the future using the indicators at hand. But they can’t any more than you can.”

Homeland Security opens TSA ‘Precheck’ to all travelers

“The TSA has opened up enrollment in its ‘Precheck’ DHS Trusted Traveler program to anyone who wants to join — and pay the $85 fee for five years participation. As a Trusted Traveler, you are eligible to use the presumably-shorter airport security lines and you are exempt from removing your shoes, belt, light jacket, your 3-1-1 bag for fluid containers and taking your laptop out of your carry-on baggage.  To enroll, you have to be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident who has not been convicted of serious felonies.  The only active enrollment center is at the Indianapolis airport, but TSA plans to open three more by the end of the year and ultimately up to 300.”

Surveillance State? Washington Post Explains It … Not!

the-daily-bell-top-logo61

“We’ll repeat the salient fact: ‘All U.S. cell phones are required to have some type of location-based technology to enable an emergency dispatch center to find a 911 caller’s real-time location and number. Thus, geographic location tracking capabilities have been integrated into all U.S. cell phones, as well as several international ones.’ So, you see, you don’t have to go live in a cave. You simply have to figure out who carried out an intergenerational plan to bug every single electronic device you own – and then politely (or not) ask them to stop. The Washington Post apparently wants us to believe the Surveillance Society is a kind of natural disaster. But it’s not.”

Central Banking: Sterile as the Grave

the-daily-bell-top-logo61

“Central banking is a modern religion, a technocratic one. The world’s top men, the ones who control banking, want to present central banking as a science. Any sense of spontaneity, gaiety or eccentricity is to be drained from the process. What is left is a dutiful acknowledgement that those minding the money store are the best of the best – and chosen for their fealty to honesty and their honest resoluteness in the face of the temptations of corruption. A straight-shooter, fearless, well-meaning, earnest … even a bit nebbish. That’s how the central banker is basically presented to the world. You don’t usually see them in relaxed environments. You hardly ever see them at barbecues.”

Paul Craig Roberts: The Money Changers Serenade – A New Plot Hatches

withkitties_150_1202

“At the IMF Research Conference on November 8, 2013, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers presented a plan to expand the con game.  Summers says that it is not enough merely to give the banks interest free money. More should be done for the banks. Instead of being paid interest on their bank deposits, people should be penalized for keeping their money in banks instead of spending it. Summers acknowledges that the problem with his solution is that people would take their money out of banks and hoard it in cash holdings. Summers has a fix for this: eliminate the freedom by imposing a cashless society where the only money is electronic.”

‘Make 401(k) Auto-Enrollment Mandatory’

“Will retirement saving soon go from opt-in to opt-out?  A recent post from ex-Boston Globe reporter Kim Blanton on the Center for Retirement Research’s Squared Away blog noted that seven years after Congress encouraged employers to automatically enroll their workers in the company 401(k), ‘the retirement fix has run out of steam.’ Alicia Munnell (left) was happy to answer in a piece for MarketWatch on Wednesday. In order to make 401(k)s work better, the PPA should be changed to require all 401(k) plans to adopt annual auto-enrollment for their entire work force, Munnell, the center’s director, argued.”

Oakland moves forward with plans for Orwellian surveillance complex

“Lawmakers in Oakland voted to move forward with plans pertaining to the city’s Domain Awareness Center (DAC), an all-seeing intelligence-analysis complex that when completed will link data captured by surveillance cameras, gunshot detectors, license plate readers, Geographic Information Systems mapping and social media feeds to provide law enforcement personnel and emergency responders with 24/7 access to seemingly all public activity within the town of 400,000.  The city intends on having the DAC fully operational by July 2014, much to the chagrin of privacy advocates who have campaigned adamantly in recent months to try and halt officials from moving forward.”
