“Ben Bernanke received an unlikely defense of his work at the U.S. Federal Reserve by a top Mitt Romney adviser, who said on Tuesday that he should be considered for a third term as chairman.  Glenn Hubbard, economic adviser to the Republican presidential candidate, said he would advise a possible President Romney that Bernanke should ‘get every consideration’ to stay on beyond January 2014, when the chairman’s current term expires.”

“Tax Justice” Report Provides Renewed Justification for Offshore Crackdown

“The ‘Tax Justice Network’ (TJN) has released an updated report calling for renewed efforts to tax more than US$32 trillion that it claims is stashed tax-free in offshore havens.
The OECD has been extraordinarily successful selling this anti-free-market worldview, with the aid of groups like the TJN. A global network of tax information exchange agerements (TIEAs) enforces the capital controls the OECD demands.  But distrust of free markets and free movement of capital aren’t the only problems with Mr. Henry’s study.”

Palm scanning causing concern among Moss Bluff Elementary parents

“A local elementary school is trying to implement a new program in their cafeteria. But the palm vein scanner is being met with much opposition from Moss Bluff Elementary parents.  A letter introduced a new program, the palm vein scanner, to move students through the lunch line at a faster rate. With almost 1,000 students, Principal Charles Caldarera says the system will reduce errors.  Caldarera says they are trying to implement the program as soon as possible, but if you are a parent and don’t want your child to participate, you must contact the school by Wednesday.”
