Sheldon Richman: No ‘Compensation’ to Israel for Iran Deal

the-daily-bell-top-logo61

“Why does Israel deserve compensation (in addition to its $3 billion in U.S. aid every year)? If anything, Israel should compensate American taxpayers!  Iran is not — and was not going to become — a nuclear threat. American and Israeli intelligence have said so repeatedly.  But even if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were right about Iran’s intentions, he should be rejoicing at the agreement, under which Iran will get rid of nearly all of its enriched uranium and two-thirds of its centrifuges.  What did Iran get in return for those concessions? Iranian money frozen since the 1979 Islamic revolution will be released and the economic warfare perpetrated by the U.S. will eventually be ended.”

Netanyahu lost his Iran bet, but his next gamble may be disastrous

“[Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s spokespeople said he plans to ‘kill himself’ pursuing the last remaining option for scuttling the deal – preventing its ratification by the U.S. House of Representatives – by persuading Democratic congressmen to defect to the Republican camp and vote against their president. The destruction and devastation he avoided inflicting on the nuclear facilities scattered throughout Iran, he now wants to wreck on what’s left of U.S.-Israel relations. Here we again see his compulsive gambler syndrome: After losing his pants, he’s now putting his underwear on the roulette wheel in a move that experts on American politics say hasn’t much of a chance.”

Breaking the last taboo – Gaza and the threat of world war

“Since 2001, the United States and its allies have been on a rampage. In Iraq, at least 700,000 men, woman and children are dead as a result. The rise of jihadists – in a country where there was none – is the result. Known as al-Qaeda and now the Islamic State, modern jihadism was invented by US and Britain, assisted by Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The original aim was to use and develop an Islamic fundamentalism that had barely existed in much of the Arab world in order to undermine pan-Arab movements and secular governments. By the 1980s, this had become a weapon to destroy the USSR in Afghanistan. The CIA called it Operation Cyclone; and a cyclone it turned out to be.”

Paul Craig Roberts: Why War Is Inevitable

withkitties_150_120

“President George W. Bush’s repeal of the Constitution has been expanded by President Obama and codified by Congress and executive orders into law. Far from defending our liberties, our soldiers who died in “the war on terror” died so that the president can indefinitely detain US citizens without due process of law and murder US citizens on suspicion alone without any accountability to law or the Constitution.  The conclusion is unavoidable that America’s wars have not protected our liberty but, instead, destroyed liberty. As Alexander Solzhenitsyn said, ‘A state of war only serves as an excuse for domestic tyranny.'”

Ron Paul slams US on Crimea crisis: Russia sanctions ‘an act of war’

“The former Republican congressman and three-time presidential candidate Ron Paul has launched a scathing attack on what he calls a US-backed coup in Ukraine, insisting the Crimean people have the right to align their territory with Moscow and characterising sanctions against Russia as ‘an act of war’.  He also said providing economic aid to Ukraine was comparable to giving support to rebels in Syria knowing it would end up in the hands of al-Qaida.  The libertarian guru’s remarks in an interview with the Guardian are almost diametrically opposed to those of his son, the Republican presidential hopeful Rand Paul, who has called for stiff penalties against Russia.”

Saudi Arabia warns of shift away from U.S. over Syria, Iran

“Saudi Arabia’s intelligence chief is vowing that the kingdom will make a ‘major shift’ in relations with the United States to protest perceived American inaction over Syria’s civil war as well as recent U.S. overtures to Iran.  The United States and Saudi Arabia have been allies since the kingdom was declared in 1932, giving Riyadh a powerful military protector and Washington secure oil supplies.  Saudi Arabia, the world’s biggest oil exporter, ploughs much of its earnings back into U.S. assets. Most of the Saudi central bank’s net foreign assets of $690 billion are thought to be denominated in dollars, much of them in U.S. Treasury bonds.”

Ron Paul: Progress Toward Peace in 2013, But Dark Clouds Remain

American Exceptionalism: Putin, the Neocons, and Ron Paul

“A US attack on Syria would have brought us one step closer to the neocons’ ultimate goal of an attack on Iran. The administration’s decision to step back from the brink with Syria has consequently opened the door to an historic US diplomatic engagement with Iran.  Yes, the neocons have suffered a number of defeats this year for which we have great reason to be thankful and optimistic. However, it would be foolish to believe that a couple of defeats will end their obsession with American exceptionalism, war, and the US global empire. Though the neocons have had several set-backs, they will continue their efforts. And there are some dark clouds on the horizon that we should closely watch.”

Wendy McElroy: America, Outsourcing A Declaration of War?

mcelroy1

“Mutual defense treaties are commonplace. They are international agreements by which nations pledge to defend each other, usually in response to one of them experiencing an act of war. Under the Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act, however, no traditional act of aggression against Israel need occur; Israel could initiate military force. The purpose of mutual defense treaties is to provide a deterrent to aggression. But, in practice, they can result in local conflicts becoming global ones. With so many geopolitical interests in the Middle East, the combination of Israel and America confronting Iran would almost certainly become global.”

Mandela ‘received weapons training from Mossad agents in 1962’

Nelson Mandela apparently underwent weapons training by Mossad agents in Ethiopia in 1962 without the Israeli secret service knowing his true identity, according to an intriguing secret letter lodged in the Israeli state archives.  The missive, revealed by the Israeli paper Haaretz two weeks after the death of the iconic South African leader, said Mandela was instructed in the use of weapons and sabotage techniques, and was encouraged to develop Zionist sympathies.”

Saudi Arabia Must Face Sept. 11 Victims in Revived Suit

“Lawsuits claiming Saudi Arabia aided al-Qaeda and should be held liable for the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack was revived by a U.S. appeals court in a decision that allows victims and their families another chance to seek compensation from the kingdom.  The U.S. Court of Appeals in New York yesterday said a lower-court judge ‘rested on an error of law’ in rejecting a request to reopen the cases against the country’s government and an affiliated charity.  Michael Kellogg, a lawyer for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, didn’t immediately return a call yesterday seeking comment on the ruling.”
