Blowback: How U.S. Drones, Coups, and Invasions Create More Violence

“U.S. and Western politicians avert their eyes from this data and this correlation; acts of terror are explained away as ‘random,’ ‘mindless,’ and, perhaps most disingenuously of all, ‘unprovoked.’ The public, either unfamiliar with secret operations carried out by the U.S. military or intelligence services, or uninformed about the brutal nature of the foreign wars fought in their name, tend to buy into this fantasy of an ‘innocent’ America hated and attacked by hordes of ‘mad’ Muslims.”

Jacob Hornberger: How U.S. Sanctions Work Their Evil

“While killing people with socialist policies might or might not be the aim of rulers in socialist countries, killing people is the aim of the U.S. government with its sanctions. The idea is that as people die from the sanctions, those who are still alive will have the incentive to rise up and oust the socialist regime from power.  But of course, revolutions inevitably mean more death and destruction. U.S. officials don’t care. All they care about is regime change.”

ICE mass arrests target Polish doctor after 40 years in the US

“Lukasz Niec was 5 years old when his parents brought him and his sister to the United States from Poland. With two suitcases in tow, his parents — both doctors — left behind a country on the verge of social turmoil. It was 1979, about two years before the country’s authoritarian communist government declared martial law.  Niec, now 43, never fathomed that his legal status in the United States would become an issue.”

Jeff Sessions Should Ask Cancer Patients about Cannabis

“Attorney General Jeff Sessions is actively lobbying Congress to overturn existing law prohibiting federal interference in state medical-marijuana policy. As someone who believes in strong constitutional limits on federal power and the rights of patients to choose, I am deeply disappointed. And as a cancer survivor who wanted the choice for myself, I wonder: does Sessions have any idea what it’s like?”

It’s time we saw economic sanctions for what they really are – war crimes

“The record of economic sanctions in forcing political change is dismal, but as a way of reducing a country to poverty and misery it is difficult to beat. It is time that the imposition of economic sanctions should be seen as a war crime, since it involves the collective punishment of millions of innocent civilians who die, sicken or are reduced to living off scraps from the garbage dumps.”

Feds’ misconduct in Cliven Bundy case stems from Ruby Ridge

“Many of the heavily-armed activists who flocked to the scene feared that the FBI snipers had a license to kill the Bundys. Their reaction cannot be understood without considering a landmark 1990s case that continues to shape millions of Americans’ attitude towards Washington: the federal killings and coverups at Ruby Ridge.”

Police are using embedded code in 50,000 apps to influence public sentiment

ELUCD uses location (tracking) technology to ask citizens questions like “do you feel safe in your neighborhood? Do you trust the police? Are you confident in the New York Police Department? 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  One should assume that law enforcement is using ELUCD’s data to identify individual cell phone users. As Tech Crunch revealed, the NYPD is keeping all the data they collect a secret.  ELUCD hopes that police departments across the country will use ELUCD to gauge people’s sentiments.”

Middle Eastern Christians in dire straits – but the West doesn’t want to know

“In Iraq, a population that numbered more than a million in the 1990s dwindled to less than a third of that in the wake of the US-led invasion and removal of the secular government of Saddam Hussein. In Syria, under threat since 2011 by Salafist groups armed and funded by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and other countries – the US shamefully included – Christians seemed to be facing a similar fate.”
