Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak wants to become an Australian citizen

“Steve Wozniak, who co-founded Apple with the late Steve Jobs, revealed Tuesday his fondness for Australia and said he hopes to become a citizen.  ‘I actually like this country and want to become a citizen,’ he told the Australian Financial Review, saying he was particularly impressed with plans to roll out a national broadband network across the country.  Wozniak, who quit Apple in 1987 after 12 years, told local radio in Brisbane last week that he enjoyed his regular visits to Australia.”

ACLU Sues Federal Agencies Over License Plate Reader Information

“The devices read license plates and search databases for stolen vehicles, wanted individuals, expired registrations, warrants, and more. However, they also record the time and location of every license plate they read, creating huge databases that can track potentially millions of people who have not committed any crimes or done anything wrong.  License plate readers are spreading rapidly around the country–they are already in use in at least 40 cities in Massachusetts across the state, including the Boston area, Worcester and Springfield–and are being used by federal law enforcement.”

Forced blood test for a Missouri drunk-driving suspect? Supreme Court to step in.

[‘Relatively routine’?]  “The US Supreme Court announced on Tuesday that it will take up a case examining whether police officers need a warrant before administering an involuntary blood test to a suspected drunk driver.   Although the case deals with a relatively routine interaction between police and motorists, the underlying legal issue will help define the scope of Fourth Amendment protections against unreasonable searches involving forced blood tests.”

Google’s Brazil president faces an arrest warrant

“Iran blocked access to Google’s popular and relatively secure Gmail service Monday amid first steps by the Islamic republic to establish a walled-off national intranet separate from the worldwide Internet.  The curbs were announced in a mobile phone text message quoting Abdolsamad Khoramabadi, an adviser to Iran’s public prosecutor’s office and the secretary of an official group tasked with detecting Internet content deemed illegal. Several residents in Tehran told AFP they were unable to get into their Gmail accounts unless they used VPN (virtual private network) software.”
