Federal cybersecurity official going to jail on child porn charges

“The former acting cybersecurity director for the US Department of Health and Human Services, Tim DeFoggi, was convicted yesterday on three child porn charges.  As reported by Wired, DeFoggi is the sixth suspect to be caught by the FBI’s Operation Torpedo, which used controversial methods of defeating the Tor anonymizing software in order to find child porn suspects.  One site frequented by DeFoggi was PedoBook, hosted by a Nebraska man who was convicted earlier for his role in the operations. DeFoggi used names such as ‘fuckchrist’ and ‘PTasseater’ to register on the sites, where he could view more than 100 videos and more than 17,000 child porn images.”

Grandmother in violent SWAT raid for neighbor’s wireless internet use

“The ostensible reason for the raid was that someone had anonymously posted some internet tough-talk on an online discussion forum, and referred to the Evansville police.  The subsequent violence directed at the Milan household was to serve a search warrant to find out who was responsible.  The alleged ‘specific threats’ were posted in a discussion on the topix.com website. One of the posts declared: ‘Cops beware! I’m proud of my country but I hate police of any kind. I have explosives… Made in America. Evansville will feel my pain.’  In response, police packed their own guns and explosives and headed out to raid the owner of the IP address from which the posts had been made.”

Not as widely known is how the war on terror has been used to justify the increased militarization of local police departments to the detriment of our liberty. Since 2002, the Department of Homeland Security has provided over $35 billion in grants to local governments for the purchase of tactical gear, military-style armor and mine-resistant vehicles. The threat of terrorism is used to justify these grants.”

“Chinese and Russian officials are warning of a potential humanitarian crisis in the restive American province of Missouri, where ancient communal tensions have boiled over into full-blown violence.  ‘We must use all means at our disposal to end the violence and restore calm to the region,’ Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in comments to an emergency United Nations Security Council session on the America crisis.  The crisis began a week ago in Ferguson, a remote Missouri village that has been a hotbed of sectarian tension. State security forces shot and killed an unarmed man, which regional analysts say has angered the local population.”

Even worse…  9-11 was used as an excuse to invade Afghanistan and Iraq. Those invasions caused much of the chaos that now dominates the headlines. So here’s the question…  Will you be fooled again? Will you be exploited again?   The next time the politicians want to use some incident to scare you into war, will you fall for it?”

U.S. Wants to Bomb ISIS In Syria; Should We First Stop Arming Them?

“The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff says we need to attack the Sunni militants in Syria.  The deputy national security adviser to President Obama says we should go after ISIS in Syria.  But the U.S. and our closest allies have long supported Sunni militants.  And the U.S. and our closest allies have been arming and training Islamic jihadists in Syria for years.  The U.S. is still financing the jihadis in Syria. For example, the government is pushing an additional $500 million in arms to the jihadis.  A similar dynamic is operating in Iraq.  The U.S. is now arming the Kurdish ‘Peshmerga’.  But reports are that Peshmerga are fighting side-by-side with the PKK, a group designated as terrorists.”

Rescuing “Hitler”: Obama’s Bailout of Assad

So said Secretary of State John Kerry in September 2013.  Now the U.S. government is about to bail him out in his civil war against ISIS.  Three decades ago Saddam Hussein was an ally of the USA.  Then the USA declared war on him. Twice. He became ‘Hitler.’  A year ago, Kerry spoke of a ‘Munich Moment‘ with Syria.  So, the U.S. government will not withdraw from the region. It will determine which faction wins and which loses, and on what terms. Except the government keeps changing its collective mind about who the good guys are, and who the bad guys are.  Assad needs a victory over ISIS. Obama plans to give it to him, free of charge.”
