In doing so, they always assumed that their favorite ideal candidate would end up being the one wielding and exercising such powers.  They assumed the risk that someone like Trump would end up being the one doing so.”

Ecuador To Hand Assange Over To U.K. What’s Next?

“Trump officials have vowed to prosecute Assange and destroy WikiLeaks.  The central oddity of Assange’s case — that he has been effectively imprisoned for eight years despite never having been charged with, let alone convicted of, any crime — is virtually certain to be prolonged once Ecuador hands him over to the U.K.”

Egypt grants diplomatic immunity to military officers who led bloody 2013 crackdown

“The officers will be given the benefits and rights of a sitting government minister, and will enjoy diplomatic immunity when travelling abroad.  They also will be protected from prosecution for any offences committed in the course of duty between 3 July 2013 – the day Mr Sisi led the military’s overthrow of Morsi following mass protests against his rule – and 10 January 2016 – when the Egyptian parliament was reconvened.  That period featured one of the bloodiest episodes in Egypt’s modern history.”

“Abolish ICE” is becoming more than just a protest cry

“ICE came into existence in the early 2000s, when the federal government was reorganized and the Department of Homeland Security was created — so it’s a relatively new branch of the federal government. Its creation led to more deportations, which escalated during the Obama administration, especially during his first term.”
