Paul Craig Roberts: 9/11 After 13 years

withkitties_150_1202

“The chairman, vice chairman, and legal counsel of the 9/11 Commission have said that information was withheld from the commission, lies were told to the commission, and that the commission ‘was set up to fail.’ The worst security failure in history resulted in not a single firing. No one was held responsible.  Washington concluded that 9/11 was possible because America lacked a police state.  The PATRIOT Act, which was awaiting the event was quickly passed by the congressional idiots. The Act established executive branch independence of law and the Constitution. The Act and follow-up measures have institutionalized a police state in ‘the land of the free.'”

Dear brands: stop remembering 9/11

“Brands have had it really tough since Mitt Romney declared they’re people just like us; now they have to act human! Apparently the first step towards personhood is to be really sad on Twitter every year even though we’re now more than a decade beyond 9/11.  Dear brands: it’s okay to forget 9/11. In fact, we insist that you do. Some of us are trying to forget, knowing that a president who campaigned on the idea that he wasn’t the guy who took the United States to war all over the planet is about to take us to war in the same places for the same reasons. Brands are not obligated to have feelings, let alone express grief that’s not really theirs.”

Oppose the War: Send Congress a History Lesson

ddc-header1

“Saddam Hussein warred against his neighbors with our approval, and murdered his own people using weapons we gave him. But the chain of connections goes deeper into history.   We supported Iraq against Iran because Iran had seized our embassy in 1980. But the CIA had used that same Embassy in 1953 to overthrow a democratic government in favor of the dictatorial Shah.  Can you begin to see how every intervention leads to future enemies?  It will be the same with ISIS.  But let’s continue digging through the history…  We overthrew Iran’s government, because we didn’t want the Soviet Union to take over. But the Soviet Union was yet another enemy we had created.”

Obama Says U.S. Will Bomb ISIS in Syria, Train Rebels

“President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he will expand the U.S. air campaign against the Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS), lifting restrictions on American strikes in Iraq and for the first time authorizing direct attacks against the militant group in Syria. Obama, who was elected to end two wars, found himself announcing an open-ended campaign against ISIS, as American public opinion has shifted in favor of strikes against the group following the beheading of two American journalists. American officials have repeatedly said they are not aware of any active plots by ISIS against the U.S. homeland.”

U.K. promises Scots more power if they vote ‘no’ on independence

“The British government is scrambling to respond to a lurch in the opinion polls towards a vote for Scottish independence this month by promising a range of new powers for Scotland if it chooses to stay within the United Kingdom.  British finance minister George Osborne said on Sunday that plans would be set out in the coming days to give Scotland more autonomy on tax, spending and welfare if Scots vote against independence in a historic referendum on Sept. 18.  Osborne’s comments came after a YouGov poll for the Sunday Times showed supporters of independence had taken their first opinion poll lead since the referendum campaign began.”

The “Social Contract” Is a Fraud; Anyone Enforcing It Is A Criminal

“If an adult wants to sign away his rights and make himself a serf to politicians, that’s his choice, and I won’t take it from him. But for the deal to be legit, a clear agreement and authorizations on both sides are required.  Fraud is a ‘false representation with the intent of persuading the victim to part with property,’ and that is precisely what is being done with the social contract, and on a gigantic scale.  We have a supposed contract, and we have trillions of dollars changing hands, based upon its legitimacy. If, in fact, it is not a contract, then the entirety of the arrangement is a massive criminal fraud. So, is this ‘social contract’ legitimate? Let’s examine some crucial aspects of contracts.”

Aggressive US police take hundreds of millions from innocent motorists

“Behind the rise in seizures is a little-known cottage industry of private police-training firms that teach the techniques of ‘highway interdiction’ to departments across the country.  A private intelligence network known as Black Asphalt Electronic Networking & Notification System enabled police nationwide to share detailed reports about American motorists — criminals and the innocent alike — including their Social Security numbers, addresses and identifying tattoos, as well as hunches about which drivers to stop.  Many of the reports have been funneled to federal agencies and fusion centers as part of the government’s burgeoning law enforcement intelligence systems.”

How municipalities in St. Louis County, Mo., profit from poverty

“The chief prosecutor in Florissant Municipal Court makes $56,060 per year. It’s a position that requires him to work 12 court sessions per year, at about three hours per session. The Florissant prosecutor is Ronald Brockmeyer, who also has a criminal defense practice in St. Charles County, and who is also the chief municipal prosecutor for the towns of Vinita Park and Dellwood. He is also the judge – yes, the judge — in both Ferguson and Breckenridge Hills. Brockmeyer isn’t alone: Several other attorneys serve as prosecutor in one town and judge in another. And at least one St. Louis County assistant district attorney is also a municipal court judge.”

In Maryland, a Soviet-Style Punishment for a Novelist

“A 23-year-old teacher at a Cambridge, Maryland, middle school has been placed on leave and—in the words of a local news report—’taken in for an emergency medical evaluation’ for publishing, under a pseudonym, a novel about a school shooting. The novelist, Patrick McLaw, an eighth-grade language-arts teacher at the Mace’s Lane Middle School, was placed on leave by the Dorchester County Board of Education, and is being investigated by the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, according to news reports from Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The novel, by the way, is set 900 years in the future.”

Man sics cops on kid’s lemonade stand, now in license trouble himself

“A Florida man who became an Internet villain after his quest to shut down a child’s lemonade stand went viral is now under investigation for potentially running an unlicensed home business.  Doug Wilkey, 61, has contacted city officials in Dunedin at least four times in the past two years in an attempt to get law enforcement to shut down the lemonade stand operated by his young neighbor, T.J. Guerrero. Wilkey’s complaint, the Tampa Bay Times reported last weekend, is that the lemonade stand is an “’illegal business’ that causes excessive traffic, noise, trash, illegal parking and other problems that reduce his property values.'”
