Germany, France, Spain collaborate with Britain in mass surveillance

“Spy agencies in Germany, France, Spain and Sweden are carrying out mass surveillance of online and phone traffic in collaboration with Britain, according to documents leaked by Edward Snowden.  Britain’s GCHQ electronic eavesdropping centre — which has a close relationship with the United States’ National Security Agency (NSA) — has taken a leading role in helping the other countries work around laws intended to limit spying, the British newspaper said. The report is likely to prove embarrassing for governments including those of Germany and Spain, which had denounced earlier reports that the NSA was electronically spying on their citizens.”

Andreessen: Bitcoin is like the early Internet

“Andreessen told Sarah Lacy that radical new ideas are a reaction to overregulation already happening. [..] ‘The more people try to add more control, the more it just creates the need for the uncontrolled alternative.’ He went on to explain that if it’s a genuinely radical new idea, it will tend to benefit in the long run by attempts to clamp down on it.  ‘The Internet was a little bit like that in the early days.’ So was the music industry. First there was Napster, then Kazaa, then BitTorrent, then Tor. Each time a regulator went after one organization, another sprung up, a million times worse. ‘Take smart coders, and tell them they can’t do something, and that is very inspiring,’ Andreessen says.”

High Tech Heads for the Farm

“On the basis of population growth alone, world food demand will increase by over 30%. But in addition to the increase in the number of people on the planet, growing affluence will also have a significant impact on global food demand. Today, there are about 2 billion people worldwide who are considered to be in the middle class; within 20 years, the number is expected to expand to 5 billion, with almost all of the increase coming from emerging markets. As these people enter the middle class, they will be able to afford to consume more food. Furthermore, they will be able to consume—and will demand—higher protein diets, i.e., more meat and dairy products.”

Tell Congress: Don’t Attack Syria

Tell Congress: Don’t Attack Syria

“The Administration is considering intervening in the Syrian civil war. We oppose this. There’s no vital national security involved. We are not the world’s policeman, nor its judge and jury. Our own needs in America are great, and they come first. The death of civilians is always regrettable, and civil war is regrettable, but no Americans have been attacked, and no American allies have been attacked. The British Parliament understandably has voted not to join in any attack. Notably, defense contractor Raytheon’s stock is up 20% in the last 60 days. It seems that nobody wants US intervention in Syria except the military-industrial complex. I oppose US military intervention in Syria. Join me.”

Bipartisan calls to cut off Egyptian aid emerge after military crackdown

“Untangling the aid relationship with Cairo would not be simple and could be costly for the United States as well as Egypt. A special financing arrangement Cairo uses could leave U.S. taxpayers holding the bill for billions of dollars in equipment Egypt already has ordered on credit, and companies like Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics that build military hardware for Egypt would be affected by aid restrictions.  Also on Sunday, several lawmakers made the point that the security of neighboring Israel and the Suez canal were compelling reasons in favor of continued aid. Since 1979, when Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel, it has been the second largest recipient, after Israel, of U.S. bilateral foreign aid.”

Libertarianism and The Congressional Vote on Attacking Syria

EPJ13

“MSM tends to offer up the explanation of ‘war weariness,’ but it is much deeper than this. After, Iraq, Afghanistan and Bengazi, the U.S. people see the USG and its military as bunglers with likely hidden agendas. It still remains unclear why some of these military efforts, and the mysterious operations at Benghazi, were really launched (Or the real reason the USG desires to launch an attack against Syria.)  MSM acts as a pretty good propaganda machine for the military that promotes the idea of a spit and polish operation, more powerful than any other on earth, but when it comes to real world confrontations, as we see, the US military has problems against even a rag tag bunch of mountain men.”

Bill Bonner: The Fatal Flaw at the Heart of Modern Economics

Bill-Bonner2

“What machine has intelligent parts…each responding to its own information base, more or less independently? Second…and perhaps more importantly…the parts have desires of their own. You build a machine to accomplish the desires of the designer. An economy, on the other hand, is merely a way for the constituent parts to achieve their own ends. Imagine an automobile that goes where the steering wheel wants to go! Imagine a motor that runs faster when the carburettor feels frisky. You can see that this is like no machine ever created. The parts want to go in different directions…at different speeds…for different reasons. The economy is much more like a flock of birds than a Boeing 747.”

How to Hide Your Gold and Silver

“Taking physical delivery of your gold or silver is often the most rewarding part of the purchasing experience, as it gives you, the bullion investor, a fuller understanding of the real value of tangible monetary assets. Like many of our bullion customers, we typically choose to take physcial delivery first and then secondly store additional purchases of gold and silver at one of the many segregated gold vault and silver storage locations we offer.  Because we are such proponents of taking physical delivery first, we have compiled a few creative storage solutions based on voluntary, anonymous, customer feedback.”

Drones For Safe Passage? ‘Why Not?’ Ald. Cardenas Asks

“If a Chicago alderman has his way, the city could someday see drones buzzing through the skies as part of an effort to keep students safe as they walk to school. ‘We could use the help.!’ Ald. George Cardenas (12th) tweeted, along with an article from The Telegraph outlining ways the remote-controlled, unmanned aerial vehicles have been used outside of military actions.  ‘Why not use drones in safe passage.??’ Cardenas said ‘there is no doubt technology is migrating from military use. … It’s going to take time to find those uses in an urban environment. It is, however, the future and I think people will want to take that leap. I think eventually we’re going to have to look at this technology.'”

Glenn Beck Calls For Nationwide Anti-War Rallies

Glenn Beck Calls For Nationwide Anti-War Rallies

“Beck said he’s not an anti-war protestor, but declared that ‘we need anti-war rallies’ to push back against this, and people need to just ignore politicians like John McCain and President Obama dismissing opposition to intervention as coming from ‘extremists.’ Beck reminded the audience Obama’s anti-war stance was one of the major things that secured his election, and pointed out that he was highly critical of Bush for similar tactics. He instructed listeners to find common ground with liberals on this issue and stand united against intervention. He concluded, ‘Don’t screw around with this. This is WWIII in the making.'”
