“Introduced commercially a little more than a decade ago, robotic surgery is becoming more routine in hospitals and is the preferred method for patients who need to have a prostate or cervix removed as well as a host of other procedures.  In the last four years, the number of hospitals nationwide using the da Vinci robot has risen by more than 80 percent, and the number of procedures performed each year has risen by 300 percent to more than 300,000 operations each year, according to the multi-billion dollar company.”

“Marvin Horne, 68, stopped giving the government his raisins in 2002 and now ‘owes the U.S. government at least $650,000 in unpaid fines,’ in addition to ‘1.2 million pounds of unpaid raisins, roughly equal to his entire harvest for four years.’ Horne violated Marketing Order 989, passed during the Truman administration, ‘a federal regulation meant to solve a problem from the era after World War II, which created the national raisin reserve. The program gives the U.S. government a heavy-handed power to interfere with the supply and demand for dried grapes’ and takes ‘away a percentage of every farmer’s raisins’ without paying for them.”

If you listen at around 1:52 it sounds like the officer seems to say something along the lines of ‘turn the camera off because if he gets out again I’m going to kill him.'”

If we cross the wrong bureaucrat, our lives may be ruined – particularly since there are very few checks and balances to restrain these petty tyrants.”

(a) we don’t have austerity (b) two people messing up a spreadsheet doesn’t somehow negate the laws of economics. Also, we’ve actually had deficit spending/stimulus. That’s what demonstrably didn’t work. But now that’s seen as the solution once again because of a spreadsheet advocating a policy we don’t follow? It’s too insane to really think about.”

“A few rowdy July 4th celebrations on a New Jersey boardwalk turned into real-life Jersey Shore as one of Google’s Glass Explorers happened to be testing the extended video recording option on his Google Glass device. ;I picked up my Google Glass explorer edition last week,’ Chris Barrett told me. ‘I wanted to test Glass out, so I filmed some fireworks, getting a very cool first-person perspective. About 10 minutes after the fireworks, we were walking back to our car, and I just decided to try it out on the boardwalk.’ The result is that Barrett caught the aftermath of a fight and arrest, on camera, through Google Glass.”

Bolivian President Morales’ Flight Diverted On Suspicions He Was Transporting Edward Snowden

“Bolivia’s foreign minister David Choquehuanca has told reporters that France and Portugal abruptly cancelled air permits, causing the plane to make an unscheduled landing in Vienna, Austria.   He said the cancellations were made over ‘technical issues’ but that further investigation revealed ‘there appeared to be some unfounded suspicions that Mr. Snowden was on the plane’.  ‘We don’t know who invented this lie,’ Mr Choquehuanca added.  Austrian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Schallenberg told The Associated Press that Snowden is not with Morales and that the Bolivian president is spending the night at a Vienna hotel.”
