Japanese Man Arrested for Making 3D Printed Gun

“A twenty-seven year old Japanese man was arrested on suspicion of printing and possessing guns. This is the first instance of such an arrest being made in Japan….. According to ANN News, Yoshitomo Imura allegedly downloaded gun blueprints from a foreign site and then printed the resin guns with his 3D printer.  Imura had apparently uploaded videos to YouTube in which he fired off what looks to be a 3D printed pistol. Last month, police seized five 3D printed guns from Imura’s Kawasaki City home….  It is possible to own guns in Japan, but the country has incredibly strict firearms regulations.”

Obama: We Will Go To War For Other Nations’ Petty Territorial Disputes

“President Obama, who is in Japan today, has announced that the U.S. defense treaty with Japan applies to the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands. Japan and China are in dispute over who has sovereignty over the largely uninhabited island chain in the East China Sea, but Obama’s statement, simultaneously meant to reassure Tokyo and threaten Beijing, made clear that the U.S. will go to war against China if the territorial dispute erupts into conflict.  The Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands are not a vital U.S. interest. The dispute over them between Japan and China has nothing to do with Americans. But Obama just promised the world he’ll go to war over a bunch of rocks in the East China Sea, if he has to.”

Japanese cult fugitive given runaround as he tried to surrender [2012]

“Despite being on the nationwide wanted list since 1995, it took Hirata several attempts before he finally succeeded in turning himself in.  Hirata could not find his way to the reception at the Osaki police station and gave up. To get to the second-floor reception, one has to use an elevator.  He then used a pay phone to call a toll-free number set up by the National Police Agency to solicit tips on former cult members on the nationwide wanted list. He called 10 times, but it was busy each time.  Hirata arrived at MPD headquarters at 11:35 p.m., but was turned away by a riot police officer on guard in front of the building. The officer thought it was a prank when Hirata identified himself.”

India’s pain is UAE’s gain – Indian expats buy up gold jewellery

mineweblogo4

“If any nation is happy about India’ gold import curbs it is the UAE, where bullion traders are registering brisk sales given the restrictions on the import of the precious metal in India.  The curbs on gold in India have raised demand for gold and diamond studded gold jewellery among expatriate Indians and visitors from India to the UAE.  ‘The UAE’s gold trade has become the de facto beneficiary of the Indian government’s tough stance on domestic consumption. There is almost a 16% difference on a per gram basis, in buying gold ornaments in the UAE as compared to buying gold in India,’ said an official at a store in Dubai’s gold souk.”

Japan PM’s militaristic gesture before Obama visit, China seizes ship

“Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has sent a ritual offering to the Yasukuni Shrine, seen by critics as a symbol of Japan’s past militarism, a move that may increase strains on Tokyo’s ties with Asian neighbours China and South Korea.  Adding to unease in the region, a Chinese maritime court in Shanghai seized a ship on Saturday owned by Japanese shipping firm Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, saying the company had failed to pay compensation stemming from a wartime contractual obligation.  The offering from Abe, who visited the shrine in December but opted not to go in person this time, was sent just before U.S. President Barack Obama’s three-day visit to Japan begins on Wednesday.”

St Lucia considers economic citizenship to boost investment

“Describing the current economic climate as ‘severe, debilitating and oppressive’ Prime Minister Kenny Anthony, who is preparing to present the 2014/15 national budget said St Lucia may well have to look at initiatives that it once ‘frowned upon’.  Anthony said some Caribbean countries are granting economic citizenship to persons out of Asia, but once that happens those persons are ending up in St Lucia and establishing themselves on the island.  Other countries in the region, including Dominica, St.Kitts Nevis and Antigua Barbuda have launched their citizenship by investment programmes, which grants citizenship of a country to individuals who invest money to a country’s development.”

New bitcoin debit card claims to work with 90 percent of US ATMs

“Bitcoiners may soon have a new way to use their cryptocurrency in the real world: the Cryptex Card, a new global bitcoin-to-cash ATM and debit card. The Hong-Kong based startup announced on Monday that it will begin shipping its cards in the next four to six weeks.  The Cryptex Card works like this: instead of buying products directly with bitcoin, the cardholder sends bitcoin to an address linked with the card, which converts it to cash. The card can then be used to withdraw money at more than 90 percent of U.S. ATMs or at certain ATMs in 80 countries. The cards are tied to Chinese card provider Union Pay, which lets the debit card work anywhere Discover cards are accepted.”

Bill Bonner: Debunking the Fed’s Credit Propaganda

Bill-Bonner2

“We have no choice but to go ahead.  But to where? And how?  Hold on. One question at a time, please.  To where? Japan!   How? By using the same policy tools the Japanese used. It worked there, didn’t it?   The Fed is fully committed to staying the course. If credit deflation returns to the US, it will have to be over Janet Yellen’s dead body. Which is not a bad idea. But Yellen is not likely to let it happen… not if she can prevent it.  But there’s the rub. If credit is going to keep expanding, someone has to borrow more – a lot more.”

Bank of Japan To Double ETF Purchases in Next Round of Easing

“Japan’s central bank will probably double purchases of exchange-traded funds in a second round of monetary easing under Governor Haruhiko Kuroda anticipated in coming months, a Bloomberg News survey of economists shows.  The Bank of Japan, which tomorrow is forecast to leave unchanged a 60 to 70 trillion yen target for yearly expansion of the monetary base, will increase annual ETF buys to 2 trillion yen, according to a survey of 36 analysts. Evidence of budding inflation expectations among Japan’s companies may restrain more ambitious plans, such as open-ended ETF purchases, even as the economy slows because of this month’s sales-tax increase.”
