FBI admits flaws in hair analysis over decades; 14 prisoners already dead

“The cases include those of 32 defendants sentenced to death. Of those, 14 have been executed or died in prison.  The admissions mark a watershed in one of the country’s largest forensic scandals, highlighting the failure of the nation’s courts for decades to keep bogus scientific information from juries, legal analysts said. The question now, they said, is how state authorities and the courts will respond to findings that confirm long-suspected problems with subjective, pattern-based forensic techniques — like hair and bite-mark comparisons — that have contributed to wrongful convictions in more than one-quarter of 329 DNA-exoneration cases since 1989.”

Rapper Nelly Stopped For Missing ‘Fuel Tax’ Sticker, Arrested For Drugs

“Tennessee Highway Patrol said in a news release that Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Haynes, was pulled over about 9:20 a.m. because the bus he was riding in failed to display a U.S. Department of Transportation and International Fuel Tax Association sticker.  According to the release troopers smelled marijuana when they reached the bus.  When troopers searched the bus, they found five rocks that tested positive for meth, as well as a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  The St. Louis native is facing charges including felony possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.”

Jim Clark told reporters at a news conference on Friday that Harris, ‘absolutely was a threat when going down.'”

Australia To Start Taxing Bank Deposits

“The Federal Opposition has accused the Government of breaking an election promise by planning to introduce a tax on bank deposits.  The former Labor Government put forward the policy in 2013 to raise revenue for a fund to protect customers in the event of a banking collapse.  Shadow Assistant Treasurer Andrew Leigh said Treasurer Joe Hockey criticised the proposal at the time. ‘When we put it on the table Joe Hockey said that it was a smash and grab on Australian households just aimed at repairing the budget,’ he said.  The banking industry has raised concerns about a deposit tax, saying it will have to pass the cost back onto customers.”

DEA warns Utah that legal pot could lead to stoned rabbit attacks

“Utah lawmakers are now considering legalizing medical marijuana in their state, which has the DEA very concerned about the impending threat of stoned bunny rabbits.  Special agent Matt Fairbanks is convinced that legalization would only turn the state’s cutest mammals against them.  In a testimony presented to the Utah Senate Panel, Fairbanks shared his harrowing experiences with hares as part of the state’s “cannabis eradication” team.  ‘I deal in facts. I deal in science,’ said Fairbanks, prefacing his argument for the preservation of drug-free wildlife.  Fairbanks said that at some illegal marijuana grow sites he saw ‘rabbits that had cultivated a taste for the marijuana.'”
