Man Cavity-Searched After Rolling Stop At Wal-Mart

“Eckert’s attorney, Shannon Kennedy, said in an interview with KOB that after law enforcement asked him to step out of the vehicle, he appeared to be clenching his buttocks.  Law enforcement thought that was probable cause to suspect that Eckert was hiding narcotics in his anal cavity. ‘If the officers in Hidalgo County and the City of Deming are seeking warrants for anal cavity searches based on how they’re standing and the warrant allows doctors at the Gila Hospital of Horrors to go in and do enemas and colonoscopies without consent, then anyone can be seized and that’s why the public needs to know about this,’ Kennedy said. ”

Oklahoma residents, officials, experts support medical marijuana

“Faced with some of the harshest marijuana laws in the nation, Oklahoma residents overwhelmingly favor its use for medical purposes while also endorsing decriminalization. Recent survey data from SoonerPoll.com shows 71 percent of likely Oklahoma voters support amending the law to allow for physician-authorized patients to consume cannabis for therapeutic reasons. Twenty-one states and the District of Columbia have enacted similar measures since 1996.  Because of Oklahoma’s strict legal stance, more and more state residents are moving to Colorado to receive medical treatment involving marijuana.”

5 Obamacare Scams and How to Avoid Them

“Despite the government shutdown, the doors to the Obamacare health insurance exchanges have swung open (kinda, sorta), which also means scam artists are strutting through them, looking for ways to defraud Americans eager to buy health coverage.  As Federal Trade Commission chairwoman Edith Ramirez recently said, ‘At the FTC, we know all too well how scammers invariably try to take advantage of developments in the marketplace and new government programs.’ Consumer watchdogs expect the fraudsters’ schemes will get worse over the next four to six months.  Be on your guard against sleazeballs pushing these five Obamacare fakes.”

Bill Bonner: Gun-Toting Health Enforcers

Bill-Bonner2

“Can you really improve people’s health by bullying them around?  Funny how one thought leads to another, whether you want it to or not.  We have been wondering about the use of force and violence in the modern world. Does it pay? we ask, even when it is used to ‘fight terrorism?’  Our answer: Maybe not.  As we all know, terrorism is such a threat to Western civilization and our way of life that we’re willing to spend at least a trillion dollars a year (including the Pentagon budget) to protect ourselves.  We send out unmanned aircraft to kill people we’ve never met… or even heard of. And we give the spooks at the NSA and elsewhere billions of dollars (they won’t tell us how much) [..]”

Obama Administration Uses Pirated Code on Healthcare.gov

“The new Obamacare website Healthcare.gov has had its fair share of problems over the past weeks, and the trouble continues.  As it turns out, the Government website uses the open source softwareDataTables, which is a plug-in for the jQuery Javascript library. While using open-source software is fine, the makers of Healthcare.gov decided to blatantly remove all references to its owners or the original copyright license.  In other words, they simply took the open-source software and are passing it off as their own, a clear violation of the GPL v2 and BSD (3-point) licenses DataTables uses.”

Obama admin. knew millions could not keep their health insurance

“The administration knew that more than 40 to 67 percent of those in the individual market would not be able to keep their plans, even if they liked them.  Yet President Obama, who had promised in 2009, ‘if you like your health plan, you will be able to keep your health plan,’ was still saying in 2012, ‘If [you] already have health insurance, you will keep your health insurance.’  The White House does not dispute that many in the individual market will lose their current coverage, but argues they will be offered better coverage in its place, and that many will get tax subsidies that would offset any increased costs.”

Congressman: Insurance Cancelation Letters Are “Transition Notices.”

“The entertainment value of millions of health insurance policy cancellation letters is very great. There is noting quite so entertaining politically as a politician trying to spin his way out of a looming electoral disaster.  Congressman Sander Levin of Michigan has explained to Americans who have received or will soon receive cancellation letters from their insurance companies that these letters are not in fact cancellation notices. They are transition notices. He even refers to these cancellation letters as ‘so-called cancellation notices.’  Congressman Levin is echoing an insurance spokesman from Florida who has also re-named the cancellation notices.”

NHS pulls the plug on its £11bn IT system [2011]

“A plan to create the world’s largest single civilian computer system linking all parts of the National Health Service is to be abandoned by the Government after running up billions of pounds in bills. Ministers are expected to announce next month that they are scrapping a central part of the much-delayed and hugely controversial 10-year National Programme for IT.  The Commons Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said that, while the intention of creating a centralised database of electronic patient records was a ‘worthwhile aim’, a huge amount of money had been wasted.”

New Obamacare tax could hit veterinarians, increase pet care costs

“Dr. John Beltz and his veterinarian partner bought a new drug dispensing device this year that used to cost about $45,000 — but this time it cost $4,000 more.  The manufacturer told him the reason for the 9 percent price hike was a new tax contained in the Affordable Care Act, said Beltz, co-owner of Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center of Racine, 4333 Old Green Bay Road.  Although Beltz is now keenly aware of the new tax on some medical devices, other veterinarians are just starting to wake up to it. The American Veterinary Medical Association, or AVMA, is trying to educate its 84,000 members about this.”

What Government Schools Can Teach Us About Government Health Care

“Imagine a politician proudly advertising his new plan to underpay teachers! Yet this is the argument made by single-payer health care boosters, with the word “doctors” implicitly substituted for ‘teachers.’ The Economic Policy Institute (EPI), for example, has published several studies arguing that public school teachers are somehow paid below-market levels and that this has dire consequences for classroom learning. But the EPI also touts its public health insurance plan, which would use ‘concentrated purchasing power’ to force provider prices below market levels. In other words, underpaying teachers is bad, but underpaying doctors is good.”
