“The rule is reportedly prompted by the difficulty of distinguishing plastic explosives from other components in electronic devices using an X-ray machine. But this explanation is baffling: a plastic explosive is every bit as dangerous in the hold of an airplane as it is in the cabin. What’s more, placing a plastic-explosive charge in a hardsided case densely packed with lithium-battery-equipped devices seems an especially dangerous measure.   Travelers to and from affected airports will now face the risk of having their laptops and tablets stolen, having their confidential data leaked, and having their devices broken.”

AmEx Must Share Dutch Account Info With IRS

“In its latest John Doe summons, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is requiring American Express to send account information of Dutch residents with credit or debit cards linked to bank accounts outside the Netherlands to U.S. tax authorities.  The IRS had requested the information in cooperation with the Dutch government as part of an investigation to determine whether Dutch citizens living outside the Netherlands are complying with tax laws.”

Suspension of U.S.-EU Visa-Free Travel Would Have Negative Consequences

“The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) warned that suspending visa-free travel would have a ‘large negative impact,’ including an additional 10 million annual visa applications to process. Additionally, the GBTA warned that if the United States retaliates with its own suspension of visa-free travel, it could mean approximately €2.5 billion in costs to EU citizens as roughly 8 million travelers would need to pay the $160 visa fee and other application costs.  The GBTA also cited an Oxford Economics study that projected a 23 percent decline in travel revenue for the U.S. and Canada as a result of a suspension, as well as a projected 140,000 jobs lost in Europe and 73,000 jobs lost in the United States.”

If NATO Is Obsolete, Stop Feeding It

After all, why force taxpayers, both American and European, to continue contributing their hard-earned money to an entity that is obsolete, outdated, outmoded, and old-fashioned?  But as we have seen with bureaucracies, once you bring them into existence they sometimes become like a permanent cancer on the body politic.”

US pilots call on Trump to ban Norwegian airline from US

“Captain Todd Insler, chairman of the MEC, has written to Donald Trump to say the airline ‘will destroy our US airline industry and all of the jobs associated with it’, as, he claims, its business model ‘undercuts the marketplace, allowing NIA to steal US jobs’ to ‘Singapore and Thailand’. Norwegian denies this.  Alpa is calling on Trump to revoke the permit granted to Norwegian last year. Its president Captain Tim Canoll said Trump had been vocal about protecting American jobs in his campaign.”

Trump admin. singles out Germany for ‘exploiting’ US, signals currency war

Germany approves electronic ankle bracelets to monitor suspected extremists
