“Abby Martin talks to Max Keiser, host of RT’s ‘Keiser Report’ about everything from why a supposedly broke country always has money for war, and the often illogical outcomes of important events, citing Halliburton stocks rising following revelations of the company’s criminality.”

Revealed: The NSA’s Secret Campaign to Crack, Undermine Internet Security

“The agency has circumvented or cracked much of the encryption, or digital scrambling, that guards global commerce and banking systems, protects sensitive data like trade secrets and medical records, and automatically secures the e-mails, Web searches, Internet chats and phone calls of Americans and others around the world. The agency, according to the documents and interviews with industry officials, deployed custom-built, superfast computers to break codes, and began collaborating with technology companies in the United States and abroad to build entry points into their products. The documents do not identify which companies have participated.”

Cops Cry Foul Over Holder Marijuana Policy Move

“Organized law enforcement has some problems with Attorney General Holder’s announcement last week that the Justice Department would not seek to block Colorado and Washington from implementing their marijuana legalization laws. Those law enforcement groups are the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Major County Sheriff’s Association, the National Sheriff’s Association, the Major Cities Chief’s Association, the Association of State Criminal Investigative Agencies, the National Narcotics Officers’ Associations Coalition, and the Police Executive Review Foundation.”

The People Who Profit from Marijuana Prohibition are Upset with the DOJ
“‘Smart Approaches to Marijuana’ sends a letter to the DOJ: Re: State Laws Legalizing Marijuana: ‘We represent tens of thousands of people working in drug prevention, drug and mental health treatment, medicine, criminal justice reform, and millions of individuals and families in recovery from alcohol and drug dependence.’ Of course, it’s signed by a Who’s Who of people who profit from marijuana prohibition. Patrick Kennedy, Kevin Sabet, Peter Bensinger, Robert DuPont, Calvina Fay, Howard Meitiner, Steven J. Pasierb, Betty Sembler, and some others in the treatment industry.”
Pot Apocalypse Looms, Marijuana Foes Warn
“Not everybody is happy with Thursday’s Justice Department announcement that it would not interfere with taxed, regulated, and legalized marijuana in Colorado and Washington. While the announcement was greeted with accolades (and some questions) by the drug policy reform community, opponents of marijuana law reform were up in arms and prophesying hellfire and damnation. Despite the bitter disappointment of the prohibitionists, marijuana law reform is moving forward, and the momentum is only likely to accelerate in the years to come. We may see in a few years if their dire warnings are correct — if the country is still standing, that is.”

How “Your” Government Works
“The Obama administration has announced the formation of a panel of “outside experts” to review the NSA’s surveillance practices. And a wide-ranging, diverse collection of experts they are; when it comes to institutional backgrounds and viewpoints, they span the entire spectrum from A to B. They remind me a bit of the space shuttle crew in an episode of The Simpsons: ‘They’re a colorful bunch … There’s a mathematician, a different kind of mathematician, and a statistician.’ If you think all this insider involvement in policy represents ‘regulatory capture,’ or the corruption of an originally pristine system by campaign money and lobbyists, you’re missing the point.”
Australian TV networks reject anti-Rupert Murdoch commercial

“Australia’s commercial television networks are refusing to run an advert which accuses Rupert Murdoch of printing ‘misleading crap’ in his newspapers ahead of national elections, the activist group behind the ad said Wednesday. The left-leaning GetUp!, which describes itself as an independent community advocacy organisation, is complaining to the competition watchdog after three major commercial networks refused to air the video which has been viewed more than 270,600 times on YouTube. Network Ten, of which Murdoch’s son Lachlan Murdoch is a director, had said it did not want to target another media organisation.”
SpyFiles 3: A growing surveillance industry amidst government inaction

“Today, Wikileaks have released Spyfiles 3, which further reveals the extent of which Western corporations are equipping repressive regimes and non-democratic governments to target activists, journalists, and human rights defenders. This dark industry only continues to grow, in both technical capability and customer base, all while amassing billions in profits off the suffering of individuals. The types of surveillance being marketed by these companies represent some of the most sophisticated technologies available — whether it’s intrusion software, data mining, trojans, location tracking, deep packet inspection, facial recognition, or mass monitoring.”
David Stockman: The End of U.S. Imperium—Finally!

“Next week Congress can do far more than stop a feckless Tomahawk barrage on a small country that is already a graveyard of civil war and sectarian slaughter. By voting ‘no,’ it can trigger the end of the American Imperium—five decades of incessant meddling, bullying, and subversion around the globe that has added precious little to national security but left America fiscally exhausted and morally diminished. Indeed, the tragedy of this vast string of misbegotten interventions is that virtually none of them involved defending the homeland or any tangible, steely-eyed linkages to national security. They were all rooted in ideology.”

Top 9 real reasons to go to war in Syria

“None of these reasons has anything to do with ‘punishing Assad for using chemical weapons.’ In any case, that whole scenario has been thrown into extreme doubt. Your government at work.”
