NATO air strike kills 10 children in Afghanistan

“A NATO air attack in eastern Afghanistan has killed 10 children, officials said Sunday, the latest case of civilian casualties which provoke great anger in the war-torn country.  The children were killed during a joint Afghan-NATO operation in the Shigal district of restive Kunar province bordering Pakistan late on Saturday.  An Afghan official involved in the operation who did not want to be named said air support was called in after local and coalition forces came under attack, resulting in the death of an American and injuries to several Afghan soldiers. The official said the force did not know there were women and children in the houses that were hit.”

“You’ve got a 46-year-old employed father caught selling four bottles of prescription pain pills. Twenty-five years minimum! It costs Florida roughly $19,000 to incarcerate an inmate for a year. So I ask you, dear reader, is keeping non-violent first-time drug offender John Horner locked behind bars in a jumpsuit really the best use of $475,000? For the same price, you could pay a year’s tuition for 75 students at Florida State University.  Is it accurate to call a system that demands the 25-year prison term mad?  Well. Prosecutors offered to shave years off his sentence if he became an informant himself and successfully helped send five others to prison on 25 year terms.”

Public Schools Give Kids Attention Deficit Disorder.

“The CDC has diagnosed this at attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, also known as ‘I’d rather not be here’ disorder.  It is higher in states where boys can go hunting instead of sitting in school. In South Carolina, Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas, the squirming is intense: 23%.  The solution is drugs. Legal ones. The ones supplied by the pushers: public schools. These drugs keep people from squirming.  When you are listening to some tax-funded, tenured drone, and you would rather be hunting, pills help.  Medicaid covers the cost of the drugs for poor families. The children in these families have one-third more instances of the disease.”

Odorless ‘weed candies’ in high schools worry Oregon authorities

“Small hard candy infused with marijuana has popped up in high schools in northwestern Oregon, authorities have warned.  The sugary green candy is frequently shaped as a skull, Gresham police officer Rick Blake told local news station KGW. ‘They just sit and suck on it,’ Blake added. ‘And, the biggest thing is its odorless, and having no odor, they can sit in class and have this thing and by the end of class, they’re high.’  The drug-infused treat is reportedly being sold to high school students for $1 to $5 a piece.  Blake told the Portland Tribune the ‘weed candy’ was relatively easy to make, requiring only marijuana and a few common household ingredients.”

The War on Drugs Is Far More Immoral Than Most Drug Use

It isn’t immoral for him to light a plant on fire, inhale the smoke, and enjoy a mild high for a short time, presuming he doesn’t drive while high. But it would be immoral to react to his plant-smoking by sending men with guns to forcibly arrest him, convict him in a court, and lock him up for months or even years for a victimless crime. That’s the choice, dear reader. So take a look at the guy in the photo and make your choice: Is it more moral to let him smoke, or to forcibly cage him with thieves, rapists, and murderers?  My own moral judgments don’t stop there.”

“The college system is far from a free market profit oriented system. Almost 100% of colleges take money from government or accept students who receive government loans. This results in colleges being required to meet government guidelines which have dramatically dumb downed the system. The Chinese government has created 60 million vacant apartments through its central planning policies, while the U.S. government through its intervention in the education system has created tens of millions of college graduates with vacant minds.”

State seizes couple’s four babies due to father’s juvenile sex offense

“All of their children, from several months old to age five, have been put up for adoption. The last three children were seized shortly after birth at hospital.  ‘It’s a heartbreaking experience,’ the father told the Citizen. ‘They come in and take your baby. It’s like they are stripping your life away.’  The father said it was wrong for a court to punish him for future crimes a judge said he was likely to commit.  He pleaded guilty for sex crimes against children when he was 12. ‘I was a kid. I didn’t know what I was doing, so I pleaded guilty. But there was no sex, it was experimenting as a 12-year-old boy.'”

After ‘Tan Mom,’ New Jersey bans children from tanning beds, spray tans

“Under the new law, youth age 17 and older must have a parent or guardian present for an initial consultation with a tanning salon. It also bans children under 14 from getting spray tans in tanning salons.  Governor Chris Christie said that while he does not favor government regulation of small business, the new law was important for protecting the safety of minors.  Patricia Krentcil, who became known in tabloid stories as the “Tan Mom,” denied exposing her daughter to a tanning session, and a grand jury opted not to indict her on charges of endangering the welfare of a child.”
