Mississippi Cops Hogtie and Kill ‘Widespread Panic’ Concertgoer

“A video has surfaced of Mississippi Police killing a concertgoer attending the Widespread Panic performance Saturday night in a story covered earlier today by PINAC News.  The video below shows the last moments Troy Goode is seen in public, dead or alive. The witnesses recorded this video and made commentary indicative of a less than serious moment, until seeing that the 30-year-old engineer was hogtied, which their video confirms visually.  Then Southhaven police demanded they stop recording.  The witnesses even expressed fear that recording the incident would cause police to arrest them as bystanders. And they did not have the sense to record horizontally.”

Obama announces new power plant regulations, to cost $8.4 billion

“In its fact sheet, the White House argues the new rules will create tens of thousands of jobs while ensuring grid reliability.  According to the White House, if the rule is implemented in all 50 states, the average American family can save $85 on their annual energy bill in 2030, though critics say it will raise energy bills.  EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, drew from her Boston background and called the rollout ‘an especially wicked-cool moment.’  A day earlier, she said the rule would result in an estimated annual cost of $8.4 billion by 2030 and have total benefits, including public-health benefits, of $34 billion to $54 billion per year by then.”

How Hillary Clinton plans to ‘save capitalism’

“Clinton proposed raising capital gains taxes on investments held for only short periods of time. The tax on investment earnings would nearly double from their current rate of 20% for investments held less than two years. And the rate for those in the top tax bracket would be set on a sliding scale, with incentives for people who hold their investments longer.  Meanwhile, Clinton said she would change the tax code to eliminate incentives for CEOs to be paid based on short-term bumps in share prices, with the aim of encouraging leaders to plan more strategically for the future.  Clinton also took on what she called ‘hit and run’ shareholders – activist investors.”

Man arrested after filming fatal crash from inside car

“It’s not unlawful to film a crime scene with a mobile phone. And it’s not illegal to try to sell the footage of a heinous crime scene, which police suggest was Pelton’s motive. But it is illegal to trespass on a crime scene, the Lorain Police Department said. Detective Buddy Sivert said Pelton, who posted the footage to Facebook, was charged with vehicular trespassing.  ‘We searched to try to find anything to charge him with,’ he said.  Pelton was released after posting bond Wednesday and faces a maximum 30 days in jail and a $250 fine if convicted.  ‘I just wanted to educate people to slow down,’ Pelton told ABC 5 in Cleveland.”

War Veteran with PTSD Faces Life in Prison for Pot

“US Marine Corps combat veteran Kristoffer Lewandowski, who served in three tours of duty overseas including tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, reportedly faces up to life in prison for pot charges connected to a June 2014 raid on his Geronimo, OK home that occurred after his wife and neighbors called police to get him help for a post-traumatic stress disorder flare-up. However, rather than providing mental health resources, police responding on the scene searched Lewandowski’s home for contraband and found six marijuana plants, weighing in at less than an ounce of plant matter in total, and charged him with, among other offenses, felony marijuana cultivation.”

China bans major shareholders from selling for next six months

“China’s securities regulator took the drastic step of banning shareholders with stakes of more than 5% from selling shares for the next six months in a bid to halt a plunge in stock prices that is starting to roil global financial markets.  The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) said on its website late on Wednesday that it would deal severely with any shareholders who violated the rule.  The prohibition is also seen applying to foreign investors who hold stakes in Shanghai- or Shenzhen-listed companies, although most of their holdings are below 5%. More than 500 China-listed companies announced trading halts on the Shanghai and Shenzhen exchanges on Wednesday.”

China to create $19B fund to support plunging stock market

“For months, state-owned media had encouraged ordinary Chinese to load up on shares. Many Chinese individual investors borrowed heavily to buy stocks — taking out so-called margin loans. And the rising stock prices encouraged companies to raise money by issuing shares and to use the proceeds to pay down debt.  In the first half of the year, the Shanghai stock market led the world in initial public offerings: 78 companies issued shares in Shanghai, raising $16.6 billion, according to a study by the accounting firm EY. Hong Kong was No. 2 with 31 deals that raised $16 billion. Shenzhen was No. 5 with 112 deals that raised $7 billion.”

NSA conducts mass surveillance of the US internet to find cyberattacks

“According to the new documents, the scanning is enabled by broad legal powers, granted by the Department of Justice and FISA court in 2012. An initial Justice Department order (interpreting Section 702 of the FISA Amendments Act) authorized the NSA to target data based on specific IP addresses or threat signatures that were linked to foreign nations. In addition to its surveillance operations, the NSA is tasked with defending official US networks from digital intrusions, a task that’s grown increasingly difficult as states like China have grown more sophisticated.  But according to the documents, limiting the scans to foreign states was too restrictive for the NSA.”
