Poll: Clinton should release transcripts of purported Wall Street speeches

“Nearly two-thirds of voters think Mrs. Clinton should make public those speeches, including three she delivered at Goldman Sachs after leaving the State Department. Mrs. Clinton was paid $625,000 for those speeches, and her refusal to make their content public seems to play into the broader idea that she is dishonest and has something to hide, analysts sTwo-thirds of voters say Clinton should release transcripts of Wall Street speechesay. The former secretary of state has brushed off calls to release the transcripts despite heavy pressure from her presidential primary rival, Sen. Bernard Sanders. Mrs. Clinton has been questioned repeatedly on the issue but has refused to budge.”

Balding French President Hollande Spends $132K on His Hair Yearly

“How could Olivier B, a hairstylist by trade, not feel affection for a man who’s been paying him nearly €10,000, or about $11,000, of French taxpayer money each month since he took office in 2012? It is not as though there is a tremendous amount of work to be done on Hollande’s fully receded hairline, with its stick-straight, easily-tamable short crop of soft-looking strands. But Olivier B has made work out of it, nonetheless.  That, apparently, is worth $132,000 a year, more than European parliament members make, and just about as much as French government ministers pull in. The average French person, by contrast, earns close to $41,000 a year, according to the O.E.C.D..”

Highway Bill Compromise Funded By Expropriating Big U.S. Banks

“The highway measure would be financed in part by a one-time use of Federal Reserve surplus funds and by a reduction in the 6 percent dividend that national banks receive from the Fed. The dividend would be reduced by an amount tied to yields on 10-year U.S. Treasuries, currently about 2.2 percent. If Treasury yields rose higher than 6 percent, the Fed wouldn’t pay the banks more. Banks with $10 billion or less in assets would be exempt from the cut.  The Fed’s surplus capital comes from the 12 reserve banks. The highway bill would allow for a one-time draw of $19 billion from the surplus, which totaled $29.3 billion as of Nov. 25.”

“This Is Government Land”: The Eternal Refrain of the Federal Occupiers

“Whatever else one might say about the CCF, the motives animating its occupation are much more commendable than those of the squatters who illegally occupied Harney County in the 1870s. The same Regime that made ‘settlers’ and ‘county fathers’ out of the first occupiers is determined to cage or kill the CCF in the service of the same principle expressed by the execrable Indian Agent William Rinehart: ‘This is government land'”

European Central Bank sued by 200 investors over Greek debt deal

“In a case which could pave the way for a raft of legal action from the private sector, a group of Italian retail investors are claiming damages in excess of €12m from the ECB for an alleged violation of its ‘equal’ creditor status during the biggest private sector debt restructuring in history in 2012.  During the episode, the ECB was able to ‘swap’ its holdings of Greek government debt for protected bonds with no repayment date. The move ensured the ECB did not suffer losses from the deal to stave off a Greek bankruptcy in March 2012.  Private sector creditors, however, were forced into accepting a 53.5pc ‘haircut’ on their holdings.”

Thai Man Faces 37 Years in Prison For “Insulting” the King’s Dog Online

“In America, we worry mostly only about the ‘slap on the wrist’ of probably being placed on a watch list.  A man in Thailand, however, faces 37 years in prison for criticizing the king’s dog on the internet, as well as allegedly insulting the monarchy. Thanakorn Siripaiboon, a factory worker, faced trial this week in a military court for making a ‘sarcastic’ comment about the king’s dog online. Though officials declined to cite any specific statements, CBS News reports the man shared an ‘inappropriate’ picture of the dog and liked a photo disparaging to the king.”

Brave Cop Exposes How His Dept Killed Innocent Teen Brandon Ellingson

“Anthony Piercy, who as arresting officer had both moral and legal responsibility for Ellingson’s safety, incorrectly placed a life jacket on his prisoner and then drove his patrol boat away from the scene at a high rate of speed. Ellingson was thrown from the craft when it struck a sizeable wake.  Following the familiar full-court press to prevent officer accountability, the jury in a Coroner’s Inquest ruled Ellingson’s death to be accidental. It was subsequently revealed that Amanda Grellner, the prosecutor who declined to file charges against Piercy, had received a personal favor from the MHP three years earlier when the department declined to charge her then-18-year-old son with DUI.”

IRS: You Can’t Sue Us Unless We Say You Can

“Department of Justice lawyers claimed Wednesday the IRS cannot be sued for damages by the estimated 330,000 taxpayers victimized by hackers who earlier this year breached the federal tax agency’s computer files.  Plaintiffs Becky Welborn and Wendy Windrich’s claim of damage under the Privacy Act and the Administrative Procedures Act cannot be pursued because the doctrine of Sovereign Immunity, which holds the federal government immune to damage claims unless it agrees to such litigation.  Without such an agreement from the IRS, the federal courts have no jurisdiction over the damage claim filed by Welborn and Windrich, according to Justice Department lawyers.”

U.S. Officially Honors Its Torturers and War Criminals, After Shielding Them

“Obama’s immunizing Bush-era torturers converted torture from a global taboo and decades-old crime into a reasonable, debatable policy question, which is why so many GOP candidates are now openly suggesting its use. But now, the Obama administration has moved from legally protecting Bush-era war criminals to honoring and gushing over them in public. Yesterday, the House of Representatives unveiled a marble bust of former Vice President Cheney, which — until a person of conscience vandalizes or destroys it — will reside in Emancipation Hall of the U.S. Capitol. Along with George W. Bush, one of the speakers in attendance was Vice President Joe Biden.”

New report: In tough times, police property seizures rise

“The past decade has seen a ‘meteoric, exponential increase’ in the use of the practice. The government does not measure the number of times per year that assets are seized. But one common measure of the practice is the amount of money in the asset forfeiture funds of the Department of Justice and the U.S. Treasury, the two agencies that typically perform forfeitures at the federal level. In 2008,there were less than $1.5 billion in the combined asset forfeiture funds of the Justice Department and the U.S. Treasury, according to the report. But by 2014, that number had tripled, to roughly $4.5 billion.”
