Greek protesters lob petrol bombs in Athens during Obama visit

“In a separate protest in the northern city of Thessaloniki, protesters burned a U.S. flag.  The visit comes only two days before the anniversary of a bloody 1973 student revolt that helped topple the 1967-1974 military junta which was backed by the U.S. government.  Obama, who will be succeeded in January by Donald Trump, arrived in Greece on Tuesday on his last foreign tour as president of the United States.”

Surrounded By Protesters, Trump Backpedals On Obamacare Repeal, Clinton Prosecution

Tens of thousands of protesters swarmed Trump Tower, held back by barricades, while billionaire and president-elect Donald Trump continued to mull over his cabinet selections. Earlier, Trump had stated that although his campaign had promised to repeal Obamacare entirely, it would instead be repealed and replaced with a new law that maintains Obamacare’s key provisions: namely, that insurance companies would be required to cover individuals with pre-existing conditions and to cover young adults on their parents’ policies until the age of 26.

Trump also indicated that his campaign’s promise to prosecute former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for numerous instances of alleged official misconduct during her State Department tenure would be considered a low priority.

The cost of a Colorado Congressional seat increased 23.5x in 6 years

“Colorado’s 6th district is now fetching $17,866,308 in total election spending.  That’s a 23.5x increase in just six years, putting Apple’s stock performance to shame.  Of course, a Congressional seat isn’t exactly an investment in the traditional sense.  But let’s be honest: no one puts up millions of dollars to back a candidate without expecting a return on that investment, just like no one invests in Apple stock without expecting a return. Total cost of 2016 election could reach $6.6 billion, CRP predicts

“Is 2016 the Year of the Billionaire when it comes to financing the election?  There are plenty in the mix. And they’ve helped fuel what is turning out to be the most expensive election ever. The Center for Responsive Politics projects that candidates, parties and outside groups could spend nearly $6.6 billion by the time it’s all over, $86.5 million more than the last presidential cycle when adjusted for inflation. The cost could be much higher — this is a conservative estimate.”
