More than half the members of Congress are millionaires

“Wealthy members of Congress are living the high life at taxpayer expense, while most of the rest of the country continues to suffer through one of the worst economic periods in our lifetimes.  According to a CSRP analysis, more than half of the members of Congress are millionaires.  This is the first time that this has ever happened in U.S. history.  In addition, the same study found that a hundred members of Congress are actually worth at least five million dollars.  We have a government of the wealthy, by the wealthy and for the wealthy, but as you will see below, that isn’t stopping members of Congress from wasting taxpayer money in some incredibly bizarre ways.”

Ron Paul on the Evolution of Freedom in the 21st Century

Ron Paul

“Fewer people depend on regular TV and you see more programs being deleted from TV. So the Internet is the wave of the future and that’s one of the reasons the freedom movement is growing, because it’s not dependent on the establishment. When I got interested in these ideas in the ’50s and ’60s it was very, very difficult to get any information but today it’s so easy and it spreads like a wildfire.  It is worldwide. I’ve said it so many times – this is not a Republican deal. If the ideas are correct they will be pervasive.  Interventionist foreign policy and Keynesian economics was endorsed by the Republicans and Democrats; they just argued over who got to be the managers.”

Obama Deploys US Troops to Iraq as Insurgents Gain Ground

“Obama has told Congress he will send about 170 of the troops to the U.S. Embassy to secure the scores of Americans still present there. The $700 million fortress is the size of 80 football fields, built to withstand attacks.  Obama is also considering sending in U.S. Special Forces – 100 in all — to help advise Iraqi forces. Those forces, some of which might be sent to Kuwait, could be used for airfield management, security and logistics support, officials said.   If the United States decides to attack, more options are also available. An aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf is capable of launching 40 fighter jets to strike ISIS militants.  Three other ships are also able to launch cruise missiles.”

Iraq in Chaos. A Total Defeat for Bush’s Policies.

“Trillions of dollars in Americans’ taxes and debts later, Iraq is in a civil war. What do American taxpayers have to show for Bush’s ‘I’m Macho!’ grandstanding? War debts and war dead. Plus this photo.  Stories about Iraq were buried even before Obama pulled out the visible troops. Iraq went down the memory hole.  Mercenaries have stayed behind. In addition, the U.S. government still operates military bases. The U.S. military has insisted that this will not change.  Did the neocons ever say, ‘We were wrong?’ Of course not.  Did they say we should pull out of Afghanistan? Of course not.  Are we going to pull out of Afghanistan? Yes. Every military invader of Afghanistan always has.”

Back to Politics

“As of now, it also could mean another ugly battle over funding the government and a bruising federal debt-ceiling fight in March 2015.  Yet this doesn’t signal a new anti-incumbent wave, at least not yet. So far this year, 26 states have held their primaries to determine the nominees for 257 House seats. Of the 229 incumbents running again, only Cantor and one other have lost.  Meanwhile, the Democratic and Republican candidates for Cantor’s seat have a few things in common. Both have no previous political experience. And both are professors at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va., where they are teammates on a faculty basketball team.”

House legalizes NSA domestic spying with gutted ‘USA Freedom Act’

“Under the legislation, instead of the NSA collecting and housing the metadata from every phone call made to and from the United States, that data will remain in the hands of the telecoms. Previously, there were no laws barring the NSA from searching the data carte blanche, although the agency promised it would only do so if it had a ‘reasonable, articulable suspicion’ against a terrorism target.  The USA Freedom Act, however, demands that the NSA get approval for a search from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court before demanding that the telecoms hand over metadata. However, no ‘probable-cause’ Fourth Amendment standard is required to access the database.”

Wendy McElroy: The Most Influential Man You Haven’t Heard Of

mcelroy1

“‘Steyer hosted a recent fundraiser at his San Francisco home that netted the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee $400,000 and where Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) and the six other Democratic senators in attendance openly discussed plans for …[ the] talkathon, according to reports.’ In other words, the speechathon was planned at the billionaire’s home in Reid’s presence. The uber-influencial Reid is the same Democratic Senator who lambasted the billionaire Koch brothers for their donations to Republican causes and campaigns.  Apparently, Reid wants only the Senate to be up for sale, and only to a Democratic buyer.”

Will the Congressional Budget Hurt People in Your Name?

ddc-header1

“The Obama and Paul Ryan budgets both seek the same thing: MORE federal spending.  I DO NOT CONSENT!   Every penny you spend is taken BY FORCE.  And all of it funds chaos, NOT government.  You create resentment by stationing troops in 150+ countries.  You aid corrupt dictators.  Your foreign policy inspires terrorism.  Your drug war destabilizes our southern neighbors and creates the world’s largest prison population.   Your regulations kill job-creation and ruin lives.  Your interventions in health care and education improves neither, but make both more expensive.  Stop meddling abroad. Stop meddling at home. Reduce the harm you do — CUT SPENDING!”

Gov. Christie Blames Regulators He Appointed for Tesla Sales Ban

“New Jersey’s eight-member Motor Vehicle Commission, made up of members of Christie’s cabinet and others appointed by the Republican governor, voted unanimously March 11 to block Tesla from direct sales.  The Palo Alto, California-based automaker is battling car dealers state by state who want sales to go through them.  Dealers in Ohio, New York, Minnesota, Georgia and elsewhere have argued that independent retailers are better for shoppers and vehicle owners.  The New Jersey panel voted unanimously to require that all new vehicle sales go through franchised retail dealers. Christie said his administration had tried to work with the company.”
