US pilots call on Trump to ban Norwegian airline from US

“Captain Todd Insler, chairman of the MEC, has written to Donald Trump to say the airline ‘will destroy our US airline industry and all of the jobs associated with it’, as, he claims, its business model ‘undercuts the marketplace, allowing NIA to steal US jobs’ to ‘Singapore and Thailand’. Norwegian denies this.  Alpa is calling on Trump to revoke the permit granted to Norwegian last year. Its president Captain Tim Canoll said Trump had been vocal about protecting American jobs in his campaign.”

Google, unlike Microsoft, must turn over foreign emails: U.S. judge

“A U.S. judge has ordered Google to comply with search warrants seeking customer emails stored outside the United States, diverging from a federal appeals court that reached the opposite conclusion in a similar case involving Microsoft Corp.  U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas Rueter in Philadelphia ruled on Friday that transferring emails from a foreign server so FBI agents could review them locally as part of a domestic fraud probe did not qualify as a seizure.”

Federal Judge Sends U.S. Marshals to Prevent Enforcement Of Trump Travel Ban

“What the judge just did is sent federal law enforcement affiliated with the court to JFK airport to make sure other federal law enforcement obeys the order.  In other words, Judge Donnelly does not trust that the Trump administration will follow the law and pre-emptively sent muscle to carry out her order.  If you’re to believe the Daily Kos, the U.S. Marshals were sent with good reason: they report that in other airports, U.S. Customs & Border patrol has ignored the order.  Update: The Guardian also reporting non-compliance by CBP.”

More than 100,000 visas revoked amid Trump travel ban

“More than 100,000 visas have been revoked in the wake of the Trump administrations recent travel ban on citizens of seven mainly Muslim countries, according to media reports on Friday.  The Washington Post reported the figure, citing a government attorney at a federal court hearing in Virginia. NBC News’ Washington affiliate also reported the number from the hearing.”

Trump blames post-travel ban airport chaos on Delta computer outage

“Trump cited a Delta computer failure, which caused delays and more than 300 flight cancellations, as a primary source of trouble at airports over the weekend.  Trump on Friday signed an executive order that banned inbound travel from seven Muslim-majority countries.  The order halted refugee arrivals into the US for 120 days, and it barred citizens of Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen for 90 days. It also indefinitely bars Syrian refugees from entering the US.  The quick rollout of the order stranded some passengers from the seven countries in airports throughout the US and caused confusion among authorities over how the ban should be enforced.”

China Increases Capital Controls, Warns It May Dump Treasuries

“Beijing unveiled its latest set of capital controls according to which Chinese banks would be required to report all yuan-denominated cash transactions exceeding 50,000 yuan. Cross-border transfers more than 200,000 yuan by individuals would also be subject to the report process.  Citizens faced draconian new currency exchange disclosure requirements, requiring foreign currency buyers to indicate how they plan to use the money and when they plan to spend it. Additionally, mainlanders would be restricted from using the FX proceeds to buy overseas property, securities, life insurance or other investment-style insurance products.”
