Firebombing Denver instead of Dresden?

google-search-header2

“What might other countries do to us as Our Rulers continue spending money they (and we) don’t have while stretching thin their lethal but ultimately limited and therefore fallible armies? And at what point will surveilled, plundered, regulated, tyrannized Americans rise up against their – and the world’s – execrable oppressors? What misery Germans would have saved themselves if they had defied Hitler in 1936 or ’37! Instead, aside from a few incredibly brave dissidents, they waited for the rest of mankind to chastise him – and them.”

History Repeats: CIA Files Reveal US Aided Saddam’s Chemical Attacks

“The declassified files expose the deeply nefarious relationship between the Reagan-led United States government and Iraq’s Saddam Hussein. And just as Obama decries the chemical attacks within Syria that were actually launched by his administration as a pretext to military action, it is now revealed that Reagan played the same card back in 1988.  In both scenarios, we see that the administrations had no problem gassing women and children if it meant furthering their agenda.  Even with Yahoo News reporting on the January 2013 plan for Obama to launch chemical attacks on Syria in order to launch a war campaign, it’s not enough for some people.”

Justifying the Unjustifiable: US Uses Past Crimes to Legalize Future Ones

“The US/NATO war against Yugoslavia, which used unilateral force to break up a sovereign state, detaching the historic Serbian province of Kosovo and transforming it into a US satellite, was clearly in violation of international law. During the past decade, the Western powers have invented and promoted a theoretical ‘right to protect’ (R2P) in an effort to get around the UN Charter in order to clear the way for wars whose final purpose is regime change. The use of R2P to overthrow Gaddafi in Libya gave the game away, ensuring Russian and Chinese opposition for any further such manoeuvre in the UN Security Council.”

Lawmakers urge Obama to allow public debate on military action against Syria

“The United States is poised to launch a military strike on Syria in coming days after determining that President Bashar al-Assad’s regime used chemical weapons during an attack outside Damascus last week which killed hundreds of civilians. Several lawmakers sought to put the brakes on what Republican congressman Scott Rigell, who drafted the letter to Obama, said could be potential abuse of presidential authority if he decides to attack Syria without a congressional green light. Rigell and others are bristling at a possible executive order of use of force without the House and Senate weighing in, as was the controversial case in Libya.”

Who Will Punish Americans for Their Manifest Violations, Joe?

google-search-header2

“Americans can expect to be attacked in the future by those seeking to ‘punish’ them for a very long list of their own manifest violations of not only international norms, but more importantly international laws that their government has signed on to and then brazenly broken. In other words, the White House is digging the graves of Americans and lowering their security by lowering the bar for what it takes to attack another country. Why can’t some other country claim that the Kent State massacre, or the Waco massacre, or the attack on Iraq, or bombing Libya, or bombing Serbia, or killing innocents by drones, or the sanctions on Iraq that killed 500,000 children, or removing the government in Afghanistan?”

NATO members could act against Syria without UN mandate

“Turkey, which accounts for NATO’s second largest army after the US, and which is on the frontline with Syria, bearing the brunt of the massive refugee crisis, is already a key conduit for arms supplies to, and a safe haven for, the sundry groups of fighters at war with Damascus. It has been the loudest critic of the Assad regime, clamouring for the west to do more. In any international coalition Turkey would be likely to play a key role – with a potential impact on the country’s own ethnic balance, especially the relations between the Sunni Muslim majority and the sizeable Alevi minority concentrated in the south near the Syrian border.”

United Nations to question U.S. over spying allegations

“The United Nations will approach the US government over a report by a German magazine that US intelligence spied on video conferences by top UN officials, a spokesman said Monday.  ‘We are aware of the reports, and we intend to be in touch with the relevant authorities on this,’ a UN spokesman, Farhan Haq, told reporters, adding that this meant the US administration.  Haq told reporters the 1961 Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations has become ‘well established international law, therefore member states are expected to act accordingly to protect the inviolability of diplomatic missions.'”

“Hubris”: New Documentary Reexamines the Iraq War “Hoax”

“A decade ago, on March 19, 2003, President George W. Bush launched the invasion of Iraq that would lead to a nine-year war resulting in 4,486 dead American troops, 32,226 service members wounded, and over 100,000 dead Iraqi civilians. The tab for the war topped $3 trillion. Bush did succeed in removing Saddam Hussein, but it turned out there were no weapons of mass destruction and no significant operational ties between Saddam’s regime and Al Qaeda. That is, the two main assertions used by Bush and his crew to justify the war were not true.  Our book was the first cut at an important topic: how a president had swindled the nation into war with a deliberate effort to hype the threat.”

Glenn Greenwald: Three key lessons from the Obama administration’s drone lies

“It’s entirely unsurprising that the Obama administration got caught making plainly false statements about its killing program. But for the same reason, it’s very significant that it has been caught. In light of this evidence, any journalists that continue to rely on US government statements about its killing program are revealing themselves to be eager propagandists, willing to be lied to and help amplify those lies (the same was true of journalists who continued to rely on government statements about ‘militants’ being killed even after they knew how Obama officials had broadened that term to the point of meaninglessness). How many times do we have to learn these same lessons?”

General Wesley Clark: Wars Were Planned – Seven Countries In Five Years

“He reached over on his desk. He picked up a piece of paper. And he said, ‘I just got this down from upstairs’ — meaning the Secretary of Defense’s office — ‘today.’ And he said, ‘This is a memo that describes how we’re going to take out seven countries in five years, starting with Iraq, and then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and, finishing off, Iran.’ I said, ‘Is it classified?’ He said, ‘Yes, sir.’ I said, ‘Well, don’t show it to me.’ And I saw him a year or so ago, and I said, ‘You remember that?’ He said, ‘Sir, I didn’t show you that memo! I didn’t show it to you!'”
