History Repeats: CIA Files Reveal US Aided Saddam’s Chemical Attacks

The use of R2P to overthrow Gaddafi in Libya gave the game away, ensuring Russian and Chinese opposition for any further such manoeuvre in the UN Security Council.”

Lawmakers urge Obama to allow public debate on military action against Syria

“The United States is poised to launch a military strike on Syria in coming days after determining that President Bashar al-Assad’s regime used chemical weapons during an attack outside Damascus last week which killed hundreds of civilians. Several lawmakers sought to put the brakes on what Republican congressman Scott Rigell, who drafted the letter to Obama, said could be potential abuse of presidential authority if he decides to attack Syria without a congressional green light. Rigell and others are bristling at a possible executive order of use of force without the House and Senate weighing in, as was the controversial case in Libya.”

Who Will Punish Americans for Their Manifest Violations, Joe?

Why can’t some other country claim that the Kent State massacre, or the Waco massacre, or the attack on Iraq, or bombing Libya, or bombing Serbia, or killing innocents by drones, or the sanctions on Iraq that killed 500,000 children, or removing the government in Afghanistan?”

NATO members could act against Syria without UN mandate

United Nations to question U.S. over spying allegations

“The United Nations will approach the US government over a report by a German magazine that US intelligence spied on video conferences by top UN officials, a spokesman said Monday.  ‘We are aware of the reports, and we intend to be in touch with the relevant authorities on this,’ a UN spokesman, Farhan Haq, told reporters, adding that this meant the US administration.  Haq told reporters the 1961 Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations has become ‘well established international law, therefore member states are expected to act accordingly to protect the inviolability of diplomatic missions.'”

The tab for the war topped $3 trillion. Bush did succeed in removing Saddam Hussein, but it turned out there were no weapons of mass destruction and no significant operational ties between Saddam’s regime and Al Qaeda. That is, the two main assertions used by Bush and his crew to justify the war were not true.  Our book was the first cut at an important topic: how a president had swindled the nation into war with a deliberate effort to hype the threat.”
