Criminals do not need guns

“Even if gun-control laws could actually succeed in keeping firearms from the hands of criminals – a goal they are notoriously ineffective at accomplishing – the reduction to the offensive ability of predators is far less than the loss of defensive capability among the law-abiding.  People who devote themselves to a life of crime don’t have much trouble becoming far more physically dangerous than the folks they like to victimize.  Ordinary people don’t have the experience or aptitude for violence that criminals usually bring to the table.  Also, the victim is often outnumbered during criminal encounters.”

High School AP History Book Rewrites 2nd Amendment

“Guyer High School (and obviously several others) are complicit in attempting to condition students to interpret the 2nd Amendment in a clearly opposite manner in which it was intended.  This textbook, currently being used by Guyer High School, is attempting to redefine the Second Amendment to impressionable young minds. Parents, you must speak up and demand action. Investigate your child’s history book ASAP, and post more pictures in the comments below. Call your school and demand that revisionist history books like this are removed from the school district.”

Sheriff defies NY Safe Act; will not release pistol permit holders’ names

“Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould said he has no intention of releasing names and addresses of pistol permit holders as required under the NY SAFE Act legislation.  The gun control law states that the name and address of a pistol permit holder ‘shall be a public record’ unless the holder files an opt-out form with the county sheriff’s office.  But Gould said the requirement intruded on law-abiding gun owners’ privacy while helping the bad guys.  His comments came a week after Oswego County Sheriff Reuel Todd joined a lawsuitto declare the SAFE Act unconstitutional, citing its bans on certain guns classified as assault weapons and ammunition magazines with too many rounds.”

Illinois Supremes issue major affirmation of 2nd Amendment

“The Illinois Supreme Court today ruled unanimously that a section of state gun law violated the constitutional right to keep and bear arms, and affirmed that this right extends outside the home.  The ruling constitutes another victory for gun rights in a state that was, until the ruling by the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in SAF’s Moore v. Madigan case, the last holdout on concealed carry. The federal court had given Illinois lawmakers 180 days to fix it, and many were dragged kicking and screaming into adopting carry statute earlier this summer.  The case of Illinois v. Alberto Aguilar challenged a section of the law that prohibited carrying firearms outside the home.”

Texas Gov. Rick Perry takes aim at Maryland to lure businesses

“Texas Gov. Rick Perry took a swipe at Gov. Martin O’Malley and Maryland’s business climate in radio ads aimed at luring companies and residents to the Lone Star state.  ‘When you grow tired of Maryland taxes squeezing every dime out of your business, think Texas,’ Perry said in the radio advertisement, set to air in the Baltimore-D.C. market this week and provided to the The Baltimore Sun by WTOP.  Perry has launched similar advertisements in Missouri, California, Chicago and New York since April.  Earlier this year, Perry invited Beretta and other Maryland gun manufacturers to move to Texas after the General Assembly passed new gun laws here.”

Obama admin. sends guns to Syria…without background checks

“Have these rebels, who reportedly have ties to terrorist groups, gone through background checks?  Does this transfer of light weapons and munitions to Syrian rebels go against the grain of the United Nations’ Small Arms Trade Treaty, which the president has said he supports and would sign?  There have been allegations that the Syrian rebels have strong connections to al Qaeda, the same organization that claimed responsibility for the 9/11 attacks in 2001, and has been linked to last year’s Benghazi attack, and we’re giving these people weapons?  Does it seem that the president is [little] concerned about putting guns in the hands of people whose idea of justice is public execution?”

Arming Terrorists and Disarming Americans

“The Obama administration’s plan to provide small arms to the Syrian Rebels was approved by Congress. Good luck finding the transcripts of these committee meetings though… they were classified. When asked about the Senate Intelligence Committee’s vote to arm the rebels, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), the committee chair, responded ‘It’s classified.’ (Which is a polite way of saying ‘it’s none of your business’) That’s right. Dianne Feinstein — the author of the ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban – doesn’t believe that the American people have a right to know who the government is giving small arms to. That oversight requirement apparently only should apply to American citizens.”

Win for Chicago gun owners: City Council rewrites gun laws

“The National Rifle Association is claiming victory today after the Chicago City Council tentatively approved a rewrite of the city’s onerous gun laws that were passed in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in the McDonald v. Chicago case (2010), which effectively overturned Chi-Town’s ban on handguns. While the full City Council will officially vote on the changes on Wednesday, it’s believed that they’ll stick because of the state’s recently passed concealed carry law, a ‘shall-issue’ statue that allows law-abiding citizens to carry concealed firearms in public provided they pass a background check, pay a $150 fee and take a 16-hour firearms training course.”
