Cypherpunks have been engaged in an active movement since the late 1980s. A very basic cypherpunk issue is privacy in communications and data retention. Such guarantees require strong cryptography, so cypherpunks are fundamentally opposed to government policies attempting to control the usage or export of cryptography, which remained an issue throughout the late 90s.”

Chinese man kills two ‘one-child’ policy officials

“A knife-wielding man stormed an office enforcing China’s one-child policy on Tuesday, stabbing two officials to death and injuring four people after a row over his offspring, state media said. Bureau staff had earlier refused to give the man, surnamed He, the papers he needed to obtain a residency permit for his fourth child, the official Xinhua news agency said, as he had not paid a ‘social compensation fee’ for having it in violation of the family planning policy. Outrage spread online last year after a woman who had been forced to undergo an abortion seven months into her pregnancy was pictured alongside the bloody foetus.”

“Anti-government activist Adam Kokesh, who is currently jailed on drug charges and is facing a firearms charge in D.C., says he will someday run for President on a platform of abolishing the federal government. Since July 9th, 31-year old Adam Kokesh has been incarcerated in a cell in the Fairfax County jail which measures seven by seven-and-a-half feet.  Adam Kokesh believes the U.S. military is more harmful than helpful to American security, and the government — as a whole — has burdened its citizenry with debt.”

De Launay’s head was sawed off and put upon a pike that was paraded around Paris. Louis XVI was executed, by guillotine, on January 21, 1793.”

UK ministers to seize back 100 powers from Brussels

“In the first part of efforts to renegotiate Britain’s relationship with the European Union, ministers will announce plans to claw back the powers.  Theresa May, the Home Secretary, will give MPs details of proposals to opt out of 133 EU measures covering justice, home affairs and the police by next spring.  Some of the measures that are seen to be in the national interest will then be opted back into, in a complex process, but ‘more than two thirds’ will disappear permanently from British law.  The move follows last week’s unanimous Commons vote in favour of moves to hold an ‘in-out’ referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU by 2017.”
