“The U.S. mainstream media’s deeply biased coverage of the Ukraine crisis – endlessly portraying the U.S.-backed  coup regime in Kiev as ‘the good guys’ – reached a new level of absurdity over the weekend as the Washington Post excused the appearance of Swastikas and other Nazi symbols among a Ukrainian government militia as ‘romantic.’ The article finds nothing objectionable about Azov’s plans for ‘sabotage, targeted assassinations and other insurgent tactics’ against Russians, although such actions are often regarded as terrorism. For the first time since World War II, a government had dispatched Nazi storm troopers to attack a European population.”

Senate approves Obama request to arm, train Syrian rebels

“The Senate on Thursday easily approved a $1 trillion government-funding bill that gives President Obama new authority to battle the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). While the stopgap bill will prevent a government shutdown on Oct. 1, the vote will be remembered for a controversial provision that allows Obama to start a new training program for rebel fighters in Syria.  Anti-war liberals and some conservatives balked at that request, with some fearing the vote represented a dangerous march to war. Lawmakers skeptical of helping the rebels are fearful that it could be difficult, if not impossible, to ensure the weapons do not end up in the wrong hands.”

U.S. Wants to Bomb ISIS In Syria; Should We First Stop Arming Them?

“The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff says we need to attack the Sunni militants in Syria.  The deputy national security adviser to President Obama says we should go after ISIS in Syria.  But the U.S. and our closest allies have long supported Sunni militants.  And the U.S. and our closest allies have been arming and training Islamic jihadists in Syria for years.  The U.S. is still financing the jihadis in Syria. For example, the government is pushing an additional $500 million in arms to the jihadis.  A similar dynamic is operating in Iraq.  The U.S. is now arming the Kurdish ‘Peshmerga’.  But reports are that Peshmerga are fighting side-by-side with the PKK, a group designated as terrorists.”

Rescuing “Hitler”: Obama’s Bailout of Assad

Twice. He became ‘Hitler.’  A year ago, Kerry spoke of a ‘Munich Moment‘ with Syria.  So, the U.S. government will not withdraw from the region. It will determine which faction wins and which loses, and on what terms. Except the government keeps changing its collective mind about who the good guys are, and who the bad guys are.  Assad needs a victory over ISIS. Obama plans to give it to him, free of charge.”

According to U.S. law, a coup is supposed to have consequences.   The U.S. government refuses to even obey its own laws, which would entail cutting the $1.3 billion it sends every year to the Egyptian military. “A secret Obama administration memo disclosed Monday outlines the legal justification for the government’s drone-targeted killing program, a lethal strategy that authorizes the killing of innocents as collateral damage.  The memo (PDF) describes the government’s legal underpinnings for its so-called overseas targeted-killing program where drones from afar shoot missiles at buildings, cars, and people. It began under the George W. Bush administration but was broadened under Obama and now includes the killing of Americans.  The Obama administration fought for years to keep the Justice Department Office of Legal Counsel memo from becoming public.”

Lebanon’s financial sector prepares to open books to Uncle Sam
