“The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency approved the pilot program for commuter shuttles, which are commonly referred to as tech buses, after years of rising tensions. Any delay would leave many unanswered questions for the workers and students who use the shuttles, along with police and parking control officers. The pilot was born in response to complaints about the impacts of the shuttles and lack of traffic-violation enforcement. The opponents of the SFMTA proposal are appealing for the shuttle program to undergo a rigorous environmental study. A successful appeal of the environmental review could derail the plan.”

Aborted babies incinerated to heat UK hospitals
“The bodies of thousands of aborted and miscarried babies were incinerated as clinical waste, with some even used to heat hospitals, an investigation has found. Ten NHS trusts have admitted burning foetal remains alongside other rubbish while two others used the bodies in ‘waste-to-energy’ plants which generate power for heat. Last night the Department of Health issued an instant ban on the practice which health minister Dr Dan Poulter branded ‘totally unacceptable.’ At least 15,500 foetal remains were incinerated by 27 NHS trusts over the last two years alone. Parents who lose children in early pregnancy were often treated without compassion and were not consulted about the remains.”
Washington State Edges Closer to Taxing Drivers by the Mile
“Lawmakers in Washington state are edging closer to implementing a new system that would monitor and tax drivers based on miles driven, under a proposal supposedly centered around transportation funding sustainability. In a dizzying twist of logic, the Commission and DOT blame the prevalence of fuel-efficient cars as the reason the state now needs a per-mile tax, arguing that ‘the move to cleaner, smarter vehicles must be accompanied by a change in the way we pay for our roads.’ Last week, a committee set up by the Transportation Commission, after concluding a $1.4 million study, reported the fee could generate upwards of $3 billion.”

Chicago Bans Vaping In Public—For The Children
“Today, as anticipated, the Chicago City Council approved an ordinance that adds e-cigarettes to the city’s Clean Indoor Air Act, meaning that vaping will be prohibited everywhere smoking is. The vote was 45 to 4, a resounding endorsement of a scientifically groundless, emotion-driven policy that is likely to accomplish exactly the opposite of what its backers say they are trying to do (i.e., reduce tobacco-related disease). Mayor Rahm Emanuel implausibly portrayed the vaping ban, which will discourage smokers from switching to a far less dangerous method of consuming nicotine, as a victory against Big Tobacco.”
Texas Game Wardens Prepare for War
“The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has a newly minted SWAT team. To be sure, the agency maintains that this ‘cadre of specialty teams’ will focus on search-and-rescue missions. However, the way Game Warden Cullen Stakes is dressed in the photo above makes it pretty clear that he’s not getting ready to rescue people who have been stranded by floods, or have gotten lost in the woods. For public consumption, the TPWD’s einsatzgruppen are portrayed as kindly people who will pluck terrified children from rooftops during floods, or come to the aid of people whose boats have broken down.”

Cold shock: Warming up your car illegal!
“The shocking news of state and local regulations that make it illegal to warm up your frozen car is hitting home in Texas, Maryland, Ohio, West Virginia, Colorado, Wisconsin, South Carolina – even some cities in Minnesota. Who knew it could be illegal to run back inside while your car is warming up in winter – in a practice sometimes called ‘puffing’? Many Americans are getting first-hand experience this brutal winter with the latest manifestation of what some call the ‘Nanny State.’ The reason for such laws is usually linked with the increased threat of vehicles being stolen – and some of them carry hefty fines for enticing car thieves to commit their crimes.”

Sorry, Comrade; You Didn’t Discover Secret To Make Communism Work
“If you’re a Millennial who loves bread lines, prison camps, forced famines, and abject human misery, then you’ll love the latest offering from Rolling Stone. Over the weekend, Jesse Myerson, a twenty-something former Occupy organizer, finally stumbled upon a foolproof recipe for success for today’s struggling Millennials. The recipe? Communism, naturally. Myerson, whose Twitter bio includes the hashtag #FULLCOMMUNISM (for when fractional communism just can’t murder people quickly enough), listed five economic reforms that he thinks every Millennial should demand.”

Yellen to Take the Green Path to Major Douglas’ Phony Social Credit
“Incoming Chair Yellen can take steps to de-link economic growth from increased carbon emissions in several ways. She can include carbon emissions as an indicator necessary for national prosperity. She can make a carbon cap a part of the Fed’s operations. This could take the form of a declining number of annual allowances to banks that provide loans to the energy and oil industry. The Federal Reserve could create levers to allow for additional economic growth in low-carbon activities, while reining in high-carbon industries. Perhaps most importantly, she can harness the unique power of money creation to help people through the transition to a low-carbon economy.”
Woman Eaten In 45 Minutes By Protected Species Of Vultures
“The Times notes this incident may ignite the cries of area farmers who want permission to shoot the griffon vultures, a protected species. Farmers claim the ban has led to a swell in the vulture population and their livestock is being threatened. The birds have been deprived of animal carcasses due to a European law that requires farmers to burn the bodies of dead animals. Approximately 42 claims have been been made to local authorities for compensation for animals lost to vultures. Farmer Alain Larraide claimed he has seen vultures carry off live animals. A 2011 report revealed that the griffon vulture had turned from scavenger to predator in regions of southern France and Spain.”

Highway Robbery: How Your Taxes Subsidize the California Lifestyle
“The next time you swipe your debit or credit card at the gas pump, you’ll be doing more than filling your tank. You’ll also be helping to finance parks, bike paths, pedestrian walkways, overlooks, viewing areas, parking lots, turnouts, ‘stack-and-pack’ housing and government land grabs in California. ‘Sustainable communities’ advocates have captured the Highway Trust Fund to finance their lifestyle choices and political agenda. And it’s not just in California. Property owners in a seven-county area of South Florida—including Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties—currently are fighting a scheme similar to Plan Bay Area, called Seven50. The fever has spread from coast to coast.”
