9/11 Commission Chair: Declassify EVERYTHING

“9/11 Commission chairman Thomas Keane has previously called for the declassification of the secret 28 pages of the Congressional 9/11 Inquiry, and said that 60-70% of what was classified shouldn’t have been classified in the first place. The 9/11 Commissioners publicly expressed anger at cover ups and obstructions of justice by the government into a real 9/11 investigation. No wonder the Co-Chair of the congressional investigation into 9/11 – Bob Graham –  and 9/11 Commissioner and former Senator Bob Kerrey are calling for either a ‘permanent 9/11 commission‘ or a new 9/11 investigation to get to the bottom of it.”

U.S. Navy caught spying on whole state of Washington

“A child pornography case in Washington has shockingly escalated as an appeals court determined the U.S. Navy has been engaged in a ‘routine’ and ‘widespread’ program of ‘hacking’ into private citizens’ computers and turning over information to law enforcement agencies.  A Naval Criminal Investigative Service, or NCIS, agent in Georgia named Steve Logan trolled for traces of child pornography on computers across Washington State. The judges ruled Logan’s action a violation of the Posse Comitatus Act, which prohibits the military from enforcing civilian laws, and warned greater action needs to be taken to stop the NCIS from continuing the practice.”

Onerous ATF rules threaten to put gun dealers out of business

“Turns out, Mr. Stockman’s team made a 99.98 percent accuracy rate.  The majority of the violations were on the 4473 and included incorrect information on ethnicity, wrong dates and leaving a box empty when the city and county go by the same name, Mr. Stockman said.  In addition to 100 percent compliance on the Form 4473, dealers must log all ‘acquisitions and dispositions’ by manufacturer, purchaser, model, serial number and caliber, and the date the dealer bought and sold each gun.  All paperwork needs to be kept for 20 years and be made available for inspection. Mr. Stockman’s audit took about seven months to complete.”

Florida Cops Use SWAT-Style Raids to Check Barbers’ Licenses

“Some of them wore masks and bulletproof vests and had their guns drawn. Meanwhile, police cars blocked off the parking lot.  The officers ordered all the customers to leave, announcing that the shop was ‘closed down indefinitely.’ They handcuffed the owner, Brian Berry, and two barbers who rented chairs from him, then proceeded to search the work stations and a storage room. They demanded the barbers’ driver’s licenses and checked for outstanding warrants. One of the inspectors, Amanda Fields, asked for the same paperwork she had seen two days earlier, going through the motions of verifying (again) that the barbers were not cutting hair without a license (a second-degree misdemeanor).”

Federal Program Supplies Surplus Military Gear to Schools

“The Los Angeles Unified School District stocked up on grenade launchers, M16 rifles and even a multi-ton armored vehicle from the program.  In Texas, near the Mexican border, the sprawling Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District has 34,700 students and operates its own SWAT team, thanks in part to military gear it received in recent years from the federal program. The gear included two Humvees and a cargo truck, as well as power generators.  The weapons are given to schools through the 1033 Program, created by Congress in the early 1990s to allow law-enforcement agencies to obtain excess Defense Department supplies, paying only for shipping.”

True, the budget meeting was open to the public, which could attend in person, monitor a live broadcast online, or watch an archived video of the proceedings later. But few, if any, city residents were likely to endure the two-and-a-half-hour-long barrage of bureaucratese that provided the prelude to Hite’s candid invocation of fuhrerprinzip. The Chief’s statement was a rejoinder to Councilor-at-Large Leroy Robinson, who had defended his vote in opposition to a $29 million tax increase to expand the ranks of Hite’s ‘army’ by three hundred officers.”

How police officers’ military uniforms affect their mental state

“As the saying goes, ‘the clothes make the man.’ In Ferguson, the men who work as police dress like soldiers. Dressing police in camouflage is certainly ridiculous (John Oliver recently quipped, ‘If they want to blend in with their surroundings, they should be dressed like a dollar store’), but recent psychological research now indicates that the effect of militarized dress may be much more insidious.  There are at least two ways in which the clothes people wear can affect how they act. The first is the symbolism that the wearer associates with the clothing. The second is the extent to which the clothing masks the person’s identity.”

Ukraine’s ‘Romantic’ Nazi Storm Troopers

For the first time since World War II, a government had dispatched Nazi storm troopers to attack a European population.”
