The government is going to default its way out of this.  It is indicative of the complete bankruptcy of the present political order that no national leader will face up publicly to these facts. Then, in an excellent illustration of ‘groupthink,’ the creators of these made-up damage functions justify them by pointing to third-party summaries done of their own (made-up) damage functions.”

John Kerry: Science on climate change is ‘irrefutable and it is alarming’

“US Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday the evidence for climate change was beyond dispute but it was not too late for international action to prevent its worst impacts. ‘The science is clear. It is irrefutable and it is alarming,’ Kerry told a climate conference in Majuro in the Marshall Islands in a video address from Washington.  ‘If we continue down our current path, the impacts of climate change will only get worse.’  Kerry said without strong, immediate action, the world would experience threats to critical infrastructure, regional stability, public health, economic vitality, and the long-term viability of some states.”

Fukushima leak is ‘much worse than we were led to believe’

But these are believed to be at around 85% of their capacity and every day an extra 400 tonnes of water are being added.  ‘The quantities of water they are dealing with are absolutely gigantic,’ said Mycle Schneider, who has consulted widely for a variety of organisations and countries on nuclear issues.  ‘What is the worse is the water leakage everywhere else – not just from the tanks. It is leaking out from the basements, it is leaking out from the cracks all over the place. Nobody can measure that.'”

Taxpayers funding study of link between marijuana, domestic violence

“The National Institute on Drug Abuse, a part of the Department of Health and Human Services, is granting $1.86 million to the University of Buffalo’s Research Institute on Addictions to investigate the drug’s link to aggression.  The study will run from 2013 to 2017 and will follow couples in which one or both partners use marijuana to determine whether its use ‘results in affective, cognitive, or behavioral effects consistent with partner aggression.’  NIDA has a $1.05 billion budget for 2013 and has publicly acknowledged that it does not fund research into the potential benefits of medical marijuana.”
